- Here's a chiptune arrangement of the Bramble Blast/Stickerbush Symphony remix from Super Smash Bros. Brawl!
This is the first time I've revisited an old chiptune arrangement that I made prior to using FamiTracker. I've always liked how completely different this brawl remix is from the original. Both are amazing in their own ways :]

It's weird, this song always made me feel quite sad when going through the stage on Brawl, and considering Diddy just lost DK, maybe it was supposed to invoke that feeling of desperation, but eagerness to set things right.
Still a beautiful track all these years later, and the nostalgia is making it all the better. Really nice work on this one, loved it.

Donkey Kong Country songs are kind of like that. Not all of them are melancholy, but they all are good at establishing an atmosphere.
I loved Diddy in subspace so much. He had that sense of confidence from DKC2 but they also gave him a sort of “Lemme at em!” Attitude. Love the little guy who made himself big.

The second game especially had that sort of vibe going on, for the same reason too. Amazing how they managed to be so artistic on so many levels in an otherwise “silly” platformer. Classic!

They should remake subspace emissary, or expand it into a full game, or do a sequel… I just want more subspace

REALLY beautiful. I think I like yours more than the original Brawl version, this really brings out the best things in the track. And the sound design is really amazing, it sounds so incredibly full and well-mixed.

This was a pleasant surprise! I actually only found out about this remix a few minutes ago.
I love Bramble Blast because it isn't just a typical glowup or even a typical remix. This remix changes the very tone of the original tune substantially (Stickerbush Symphony), making it sound like something completely fresh and new. It's one of my favorite tracks in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for that reason and merely because it's just good, plain and simple!
And this 8-bit cover is stellar! branflakes is an excellent cover artist, and I particularly like his work in VRC6 -- a sort of "sound expansion" for the NES sound chip. He's operating with only six tone channels here -- each with their own limitations -- a noise channel for percussion, and a DPCM sample channel. I'm not a huge arpeggio fan when it comes to NES music, but I particularly like the way they're used here to give a guitar-like sound. I also really love the part around 1:46 -- the trilling upwards in the background, the sine wave taking the lead...I love it when people use the sine wave for something other than a bass in NES music. That's one reason why the Kirby's Adventure soundtrack is my favorite NES game soundtrack. Yes, I'm saying that here and now.
I also appreciate that this doesn't sound like every other VRC6 remix out there. The use of arpeggio and the way the frequency of the tones shift to make them sound like completely different instruments is so well done. That and branflakes doesn't just use the VRC6-exclusive instruments just because they're there. He uses them when he thinks it would sound good. As it should be!

This may be the first time Bran's revisited a pre-Famitracker arrangement (the original was made in 2009 during his FL Studio days), but I think it's the third time he's revisited an old arrangement, the first two being Redial (which he covered in Famitracker in 2010 and then totally recreated in 2018) and Steam Gardens (which he covered in 2017 and then improved his original arrangement about a year later). *All these older versions are linked in the descriptions of the new ones.* Just some Branflakes lore for ya.
