DKC: Tropical Freeze - Music Swap: Bramble Scramble w/ Twilight Terror (Stickerbush Symphony)

- I've seen many complaints about the way in which Stickerbush Symphony was used in 3-5: Twilight Terror-usually hearing no more than 15 seconds on an average playthrough, so I've taken upon myself to mute the music and edit Stickerbush Symphony into 3-B: Bramble Scramble instead-complete with sub-par gameplay & sound effects!
I think why this theme was used in such a short part of the original level to make it more of an Easter egg than an actual soundtrack, towards people that listen to the music for the bit, and to veteran players that can get the nostalgia from playing the originals.
IMO they just mishandled the music, there's lots of instances where the same thing happens, including new OST like Irate Eight. I wonder if Retro planned to have more levels, or maybe they were so eager to have David Wise on board they asked him to make more tracks than they needed.
Not sure why everyone’s saying the flute “ruins the track” or is “a disgrace to the original” this track is pretty damn good and might be one of the best they just had to fit the aesthetic of the bright Savannah at night. So David wise had to get resourceful.

@Punch Down King I'm a classical musician and I agree flute players don't do the fp with every note. But we have to also consider the savannah influence which would sort of require a harsher flute sound.
@@hornguy04 Also, since the music is supposed to be played based on a savannah setting, David Wise probably went with a wooden flute, which doesn't have many notes. Therefore, you have to blow really hard to try to get the right note.

I can definitely see why they used Cannon Canyon with this level, Stickerbrush Symphony doesn't really fit the atmosphere. Stickerbrush Symphony like this would've been amazing on a nighttime swamp level with fireflies flying around.
Agreed. A lot of people kept saying something like "Why doesn't this play on Bramble Scramble?", so I did some editing to see how that would work out. It kinda works, but like you and ThatGamerGuy52 said, it doesn't really fit the atmosphere.

I agree. It actually fits the environment where it's played, the nighttime savannah area with a few crackling torches... Although you should try playing the credits version of Stickerbrush over this level, see how that feels.

I personally felt cheated when I played this level and Stickerbrush Symphony didn't play. I saw the name, was incredibly pumped, and I've never felt more let down in my life. I started wandering alone, and couldn't make sense of existence until I found this video...

I had "Stickerbrush" in the title initially, but someone in the comments pointed out the error and I changed it eventually.
The part of the song that fits most with this atmosphere is when the drums are most vibrant. It emanates the struggle / scramble through the wild jungle
There was a level called Bramble Scramble in DKC2, lol.
And Stickerbush Symphony played in that level, so that's why he did this

People expect aspects of this game to be just like DKC and DKC2, or to directly appeal to their nostalgia.
The thing is, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is not a remake of DKC2 or any game. It's not even paying tribute to a previous game (unlike DKC Returns, which was clearly made as a tribute to the first DKC). It's its own game, with some parts that callback to previous games. People get disappointed when Stickerbush Symphony sounds different, but were you really expecting them to bring back the exact same arrangement? Leave that for a remake of DKC2, not a sequel to the series.

Agreed. Tropical Freeze is definitely its own game, not a re-tread of DKC2.
The complaint here isn't that it sounds different. It's that it doesn't play in the bramble level and in the level it does play in it plays for about 20 seconds.
It honesty would have made for a nice shadow level
It would have been amazing if in-game the player could choose which music to play in any given level. That way you could play this level with Stickerbush Symphony! Although I personally think the music from Cannon Canyon works fine here.
And to those complaining that this is sacrilege compared to the original music and stage...then what were you expecting? This game is a sequel, not a remake! The level should have had its own name though, instead of reusing the name of one of the bramble levels from DKC2.
It almost fits the atmosphere but it would work better if the backdrop was a dense jungle rather than a canyon.

the joke is DKC2 had a level with this exact name, so it does strike me as odd that they wouldn't use the "same theme" as a throwback, but thats just me nitpicking small things. :
Kaldaryn maybe they had planned to use it this way, but then weren't satisfied with how the remix sounded and so put it in a level where you only hear it for a short time
In my opinion, they should've given this stage its own unique name. The way it is now, it's only going to disappoint fans.

Try this again using the extended version of the Stickerbrush Symphony remix used in the credits. I believe it was originally intended to be used in this level.
My guess is that it was originally intended for this level, but was swapped because the music didn't fit the hustling and bustling nature of this level. Even just by listening the music is almost overshadowed by the constant noises from the player, the enemies, and the platforms just shooting up out of the ground every few seconds. I think the level this music ended up being used in was fitting due to the peaceful nighttime atmosphere and the crackling torches. It IS however a major disappointment that it only lasts a few seconds. So it just becomes sort of an Easter Egg for fans of DKC2.
It would make sense. David Wise later said that all of the arrangements of his prior Donkey Kong Country music came at the request of Nintendo, they weren’t his idea. He’s said many times before that he prefers to focus on new compositions to make each new game unique.

I'd say it's similar in the first DKC Returns, but not in this one. A lot of elements break the level's rythm (Air bubbles in underwater levels, having to pick up water-fruits, etc.).
You can you just have to Know the level a lot better than in the SNES games.
No but the level flow has been polished so much in most levels I've tried. check some of the time trials to see, 1-1, 2-1 and 2-5 come to mind

Both the song and level are awesome, but Savanna Pop went with the level better. I think they said in an interview once that TF's Bramble Scramble was supposed to feel like everything was trying to kill you, but Stickerb(r)ush Symphony is a serene song for more of a puzzle level or something.

Somebody on the development team probably said "Dammit, we've got this nostalgic bramble level, and we've got this nostalgic music for the bramble level...but David decided to make it sound all nighttime-y. Can we just switch the level from daytime to nighttime or something?"

I think people are saying its wasted potential cause this remix plays in the stupidest spot in the game and you barely get to hear it if you rush past it. Dont understand why Retro made a bramble level with no stickerbrush.

What I never understood about this game is why they made Dixie fly with her hair and made Diddy hover with his jetpack, you would think they’d made Diddy fly and kept Dixie hovering like the original DKC2.
What you really mean is the hair gliding with Dixie, and I am guessing it’s to avoid breaking the game.
I got this game and I beat the game and they didn't even use the song for the stage they went with another song and put this song on another stage which was kind of weird

I don't mind that Tropical Freeze (and Returns, to a certain extent) does its own thing, but I find those new titles to be so... noisy! What they're going for atmosphere-wise is kinda lost on me since the music is saturated with sound effects.
Just change the time of day into night, and it would fit!
Bramble Scramble is a better music track for the theme in my opinion, I try not to let nostalgia influence my opinions.

Actually, I think DKC is easier in a sense, but because of the annoying save system and lack of gaining lives outside of the levels, it seems more difficult because game-overs result in replaying annoying levels a lot, thus bringing about more game-overs.

The original sag DK Country is so easy, is more hardcore Tropical Freeze, not this level but in general the game is hard

Exactly. The two first DKC games are still to this day the best. Not saying these new DKC games are bad but it's definitely not on the same level as the SNES games, be it musically or even gameplay wise. I mean come on the original stickebrush symphony is much better than this.

That's because video game music as a whole was better back in the 8 to 32 bits era. I like how it sounds with less instruments then when they add all that symphonic shit. Sure it's good but come on, I like the original stickerbrush symphony better than the wii version. The only exception to video game music for me is Falcom/Ys music. These guys were top tier before and now they are even better/just as good it's ridiculous.

Well, DKCTF isn't trying to be a remake of DKC2, so...
Play Journey and then say if you really think gaming music was better in the 8 to 32 bits xD. I mean, not wanting to be a jerk or anything but just journey soundtrack is enough to beat any gaming soundtrack from the 8-32 bits alone.
Tropical Freeze is easely the best DKC games out of the five that came out yet, get your nostalgia glasses off

Anyone familiar with DKC 2 would be expecting a proper homage and I feel like they could only be disappointed.
It's a nice level but did nothing to evoke the beloved aesthetics of the original.

This is not mod and it's being played on the Wii U. If you want to play as Diddy Kong alone, you'll need to collect every KONG letter and complete the extra world. Once done, you'll unlock a mode where you'll be able to play as a single Kong of your choosing.
Neatfreax That’s not listed anywhere on Google man. This is the only video Ive ever seen of someone just playing as Diddy without a co op partner being dead. Also, why would the Kong letters be blue in this video?

Also, keep in mind that if I did have a dead partner, their silhouette would've still been displayed on the HUD and they would have the option to jump back in at the cost of 1 balloon. Alternatively, they can wait for their partner to find a Kong Barrel.

Besides that, Hard Mode doesn't even allow for 2 players and you only get one heart as seen in this video.
The KONG letters are blue because there are two sets of them in each level besides Boss, K, and the entirety of world 7. Red KONG letters are found in Normal mode and blues are found exclusively in Hard Mode.
