I have a full metitarcel amputation from a motorcycle accident. Ive been having a very hard time finding a leg brace and orthotic shoe insert that works well. The best brace ive had is called the noode afo i think, its made by kinetic research in usa, its carbon fiber, its expensive (around 1400$ last i check 5 years ago) but ive been given two different branded others from my doctor since then and they just dont work at all and there just as expensive (crazy waste of money). I dont get how they expect us to fit the leg brace or the 1 1/2" tall medical foam shoe insole inside of a shoe or boot and still fit our foot in🤔. By the time i get my foot in there my heal is setting a half inch or so above wear youre heals supposed to be in the cup shaped part of the back of a shoe... Ive been dealing with this for around 7 years now, im not that old and im somwhat young.. this injury put me out of work.. I can't even walk or stand for more then a couple hours and if i over do it one day it takes me 3 or 4 days of resting it to get it to stop hurting. My ortho doc expects me to "try and make it work or come back for adjustments" well its been years and i still havnt figured anything out to walk and stand all day. They tell me try different shoes and i have spent so much on shoes that didnt work out im starting to give up. Meanwhile ive destroyed my once good right foot because its carried the majority of my weight and balance this whole time. I just dont know what to do, i feel better walking bare foot but i cant leave the house that way and i definitely cant try to go back to work like that. Id love to talk woth someone whos in my same situation to see what shoes or insoles or leg braces they use. These plastic or even carbon fiber foot drop leg braces just dont fit inside of a shoe, aspecially when you add a very thick medical shoe insert on top of it. Even if you buy an ugley giant medical shoe youre still left with a matching shoe that doesnt work for youre other good foot (then you end up destroying that good foot aswell). The new foot drop brace my ortho doc gave me flat out doesnt work, it has a crazy drastic shape to the foot bed, then youre heal ends uo resting on the side of the brace arm where it comes down to connect to the foot bed (base). Its like they don't t actually test these on a person when they make them... I could make a better one if i had the matierals and tools! They charged my medicade about 2 grand for this thing and it dont work.. they wont even give me another one because thats all theu make. My old kenetic research leg brace is now cracking and its my life line, its basically my foot.. I need something new that works.
I was in a comma during covid year of 2020 for 3months I'm a covid survivor after I got out the hospital I had foot drop I still have it now one side of my leg has more motion than the other but both legs are foot drop. What's the best device I can use I really want to walk again. I walk with a cane now my walking has been approving but still not healed from footdrop .Before I got covid I was normal walking no problems 😢.
Thank you for the review on AFO for foot drop braces, My foot drop was caused by a bad case of cramps which affected the sciatic nerve into my left foot, I am unable to lift my foot no matter how hard i try,the pain down my left side is debilitating ,I use a firm plastic AFO in my shoe,, which is uncomfortable, it has been 9 months since this happened, Are you aware of anyone who has recovered from foot drop, how long did it take, and what exercises were the most helpful,?
I had a hip replacement in May 2024. As a result I have foot drop. The pain is excruciating. I take Lyrica for the pain, it helps somewhat. I cannot lift my toes at all, no strength. I have an AFO, which was prescribed. It’s so painful and I can’t use it plus it wasn’t helping per the Co. only to prevent me from falling. What can I do or who should I see? Please any advice 😢
Been using Otto Bock carbon fiber braces for 20 yrs is there anything better? I had an accident 30 yrs ago and laid on my back for about 3 weeks, tore the nerves in both legs . 1 leg came back 50% the left side no upward Movement. I can push down, I’d like to find something better . Terry
