I needed this video! My 94 Pathfinder wouldn't go into drive and the rpm's would ramp up. Most times it was fine if I shifted into neutral and shut it off and then started back up. It would only do it randomly. Not all the time. I'm going to remove the valve body tomorrow to replace the shift solenoids. Just got the pan and filter off tonite. Great video, thank you!!!
Man you are the real MVP. I have a 01 Frontier that needed the solenoids replaced, and i honestly dont think id have been able to identify all the bolts without this video. Thanks a ton, man.
Big shout out for you! I dropped my valvebody to change out shift solenoids and wasn't entirely sure where all springs went. You video is very appreciated and informative.
01 Infiniti QX4 for reference. (Pathfinder with heated seats and wood grain lol) same exact valve body. Hopefully it fixes it. Losing a thrush washer and stopped up the whole valve body and lost 2,4th(od) and reverse.

Thanks for your very informative videos I can't tell you how much they have helped me in repairing my old Nissan...when you have time can you post something on removing the output shaft on the RE4R01A...thx so much
I have a RE4RO3A thay when cold it slips in drive. Only in the morning when I first start the engine it's fine the rest of the day what is happening and what do I need to fix it? Thank you so much for your informative videos
Hi, why the service manual for the 4x4 Nissan Pathfinder 1998 with the rear 2wd part time option says, that the vehicle can ( but not recommended ) to be towed with the rear drive wheels on the ground at the speed no more than 60 mph with the transmission and the transfer case in neutral ? Does the transfer case in neutral not totally disconnect the front and/or rear wheels from the transmission? Your opinion would be highly appreciated.
Also, fyi to everyone. If doing this with the trans still attached to the motor, make sure before you drop the valve body all the way to drain all the residual fluid. I just took a bath 😂
Would this resolved a No Reverse... I just wanna ask before I swap a different valve body... Your answer would greatly appreciate it.. all shift works besides reverse.. 🤙🏼😎
Sweet tech video man. My 1998 Pathfinder 163,000 miles started to delay shift into 4th/overdrive. Fuid is full and clean. O/D switch doesn't do anything to help it upshift, and it seems to work fine (light comes on when switched). I can get it to shift into 4th by slightly letting off accelerator and then it goes into 4th and stays there with steady speeds over about 50mph. No codes on for transmission. Any ideas where to start looking for problem cause? Thanks!
You are a retrad just like TH-cam Google to be deleting comments that other people can use to solve issues with their Nissan. You think you are a special shit for me to answer your question and then delete it?.
Look Into a part called a lock up control valve end plug. Apparently they crack and cause similar symptoms that you are having. My 1998 frontier does the same thing, Apparently there is a tsb on it. Assuming it has the RL4R01A....idk if the RE4R01A has the same problem. EDIT : I can confirm that the end cap fixed my problem. Look into a shift kit for the RE/RL4R01A and it will even show you the cap that breaks and causes no 4th gear.

What is the mileage on the transmission?. Have tried servicing its fluid and clean the sump-pan?. tried cleaning the inside of the throttle body and replace the fuel filter, to solve the shut-down might help. When was the last time(mileage) the engine had a complete tune-up?. If the transmission fluid is not red, it will need to be changed. Always use type"D" fluid and add a bottle of LUCAS "TRANS-SLIP" additive to the transmission oil. A external transmission oil cooler is very help to high mileage unit. Any "check engine" light?.
Hi, I have a problem with Pathfinder 3.3, the gearbox is automatic, all gears work except 4th gear. Changed 4 solenoid along with oil and filter, same problem, when changing gear from D to gear 2, nothing happened. Computer gear has been replaced, same problem. What's the solution?
Have tried resetting the TPS sensor to a different volt settings? Try it. Here a video th-cam.com/video/CXBzX6WbVYk/w-d-xo.html Also suspect the overdrive switch might be the culprit.
My frontier won’t move in drive when over drive is on I turn it off and it moves in drive. Once fluid is heated up turn off over drive and it’s back to normal any idea?
What have you done to the transmission since a year now?. Recommend replacing the transmission temperature sensor in the pan. Get the TCM scan for any transmission code. Reset the TPS or replace it.
You might want to take it to a transmission shop special. I would suspect transmission fiuld is not up to standard. The pressure control solenoid or the OD switch might be faulty.

Hello what was the outcome to this
I got it all put back together and it was worse than before so I took it to a small shop and they rebuilt it for $2800 USD.
Life saver man! Just be able to pause it and look at the valve body while trying to put mine back in helped so much! Truly appreciated!!

Service the fluid and filter.

Is this applicable Also for RE5R01A ? Valve body looks similar?

What causes a delay on nissan pathfinder to take reverse ?
Most likely shift solenoid problem is 1st to check, then it could be valvebody. Also dirty transmission fluid.
