Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX Review (The Best Hiking Boots) - • Video
Salomon 4D 3 GTX are amazing boots and so are the Quest Prime! Salomon hiking boots are some of the best hiking boots in general, but these two are the top.
Overall, choosing between these two Salomon boots, I would probably go with the Quest Prime... or maybe the Quest 4D 3... I don't know, I love them both. But I hope this video was helpful for you to pick what you need! If it was, please hit the like button and subscribe! Thanks for watching!

I think the hardest part about these boots/shoes...wide fits. I'm a 12W yet they're never in stock. Finally found a pair of the Speed Cross 5 on Amazon..gonna try and hope they work out

I miss durability as a criterium. I walk on gtx3 from Amsterdam to Rome. After around 700 km the soles are wearing out fast and i need new shoes within 2 weeks. But overall they are super!!

Hey man thanks for the video! Im also in FL (Sarasota) and have an office in Fort Myers, Love your firearms reviews as well. If you had to choose would you get the Quest Prime or X Ultra 3’s looking to pick up a pair tomorrow.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, but I think X Ultra 3 is a little better, because they are lighter, offer pretty much the same protection and you can find them cheaper than Prime.

Gortex is good but they don’t let you feet vent ,so what sweat is in your boots stays in your boots ,on a rest break you better take your boots off and dry your feet to stop blisters I think you get my drift they don’t vent experienced walker

I used four pairs of quests 4 and one x ultra. First pair of quest 4 was great but all the rest...The only reason i stayed with Salomon was their perfect fit from the start. I don't know how it is in US but what we get in Europe in terms of quality sucks. Gore tex was a joke. All but my first pair of quests soaked like sponge from the very beggining. All but the first quests fell appart within a year. Great design but because of price and quality issues big NO to Salomon.

Many people have complained about this. I think it's because they aren't made in Europe anymore but instead China. That's why you get quality issues. I'm still breaking in my first pair of Salomons, so it's still early for me to tell.

I have the Quest Prime since 2019. Gore-tex on these boots is no good at all. The entire boot gets wet inside really fast so I doubt this is a damaged membrane. But nothing else failed yet on them, so I only have to avoid water as much as I can.
Salomon is owned by a chinese company since 2019 but I am not sure this is the cause of the poor quality. To compare, before the Quest Prime I had a pair of Mammut boots, made in China, and the gore-tex on those lasted almost 6 years. And I have used those waaay more intense than the Salomons.
So I am thinking of returning to Mammut for my next pair

I see you have your bike as a background in your videos. I am actually looking for a boot to ride my bike (a Harley as well). What boot do tou suggest? I live in Rio, Brasil, so hot climate.

I would say something very light, mid size. Have you seen Harley Davidson boots? I did a review of Woodridge (I think) and they are excellent boots.

@@UltimateSurvivalGear Thanks for replying. I will have a look at a Harley store. I’ve been considering the Salomon X Ultra 3 mid GTX. What do you think?

    • @UltimateSurvivalGear
      @UltimateSurvivalGear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@andremoura447 Its a great choice! I rode many times with my X Ultra 3. They have a rubber protection over the toe, so when you switch gears the boot does not get scratches. My only complaint with X Ultra 3 as a riding boot is that they don't look like a riding boot lol

Yeah, the midsoles are foam. There is EVA and polyurethane, and EVA is typically in running shoes. It is much less durable, leading to the common statement that the cushion is shot (thus needing replacement for cushion) after 300-500 miles with EVA foam. Polyurethane is more durable, but both are subject to a process called hydrolysis, which is the premature breakdown of foam accelerated by not using them regularly. This is where foam loses its bond and also often crumbles. These machines to make these types of boots cost a lot of money, but most consumers don't know the cost of newer, nonwelted and nonglued shoes and boots.
Other companies use polyurethane midsoles, such as Redback, Lowa, Meindl, Lundhag, Hanwag, Prabos, etcetera. You just need to research the midsole type or ask the company.
I personally use a Norwegian M77 (3 lbs) or go down to barefoot, such as Bates Mini-Mil and something that dries quickly. Don't know a good Salomon replacement for what it does other than knowing a lot of people use lower level trail runners if they don't need the goretex and all that other modern technical stuff.
