Brother, the plastic piece inside the shoe is for fast roping from a helicopter. It protects the boot from burning. Also, that piece helps from climbing a rope on an Obstacle Course

Great review, the first day I wore mine did a 4 mile walk in hilly terrain. No issues, my third pair of Salomon. Great boots!

They're legit. I'm a plain clothes officer and I love them for work. They're equally impressive for snow, rain and mud.

Thanks for the review ,I received today these boots and couldn't be more happy.Extremly confortable.I have also the Hiking version but this model is way cooler for my point of view.Using Salomon Boots for yrs now and this one is my favourite at this moment, going to wear them to my trip to Toubkhal/Atlas and later on in Iceland/hike.

When I bought mine, I wear a 9.5 but ordered a 10.5. I found that they were a bit tight even a size bigger. He is right about the pressure points. I walked 30 kms one day and I had hot spots where the eyelets were reinforced. When I broke my boots in they became more comfortable. In saying that, it took a few months to get them to a level where blisters and hotspots were a non issue. One thing, don’t buy the lighter Color boots, they are a real pain in the ass to keep clean. Darker Color ones would be better.

Tenx for the review, I totally agree. I have the same booths. Regarding the plastic part on the inner side of the booth, I am using smartwool socks and I must say that totally solved the pressure/irritation inner side of that part of the booth. I must say I do understand the reason why they made the reinforcement on that part of the booth. If you are walking/shuffling with a descent or heavy rugzack you still have that stability for heavy marches. I owned really comfortable booths that really felt like sneakers but those boots started to collapse on the inner side pretty quickly. These Salomons really hold up when you are carrying heavy loads. Recently I did an 8k speedmarch with 18 kilograms load on my back and with the smartwools I didn't have any pressure points or shoe inner side collapsing what so ever. And when I did the speedmarch the booths were two days old.

Those reinforcements on inner side of the boots are for durability while fast roping

I’ve had at least 10 pairs of these boots over the years. They are by far the most comfortable boot I’ve ever put on my feet. The new Forces version are definitely made much more robust and can take more of a beating. I always replace the insoles immediately just because I’ve found an insole that I really like and I use them
In all of my boots and shoes. I have Kenetrec’s and Crispi’s, Danner’s and Lowa’s and La Sportiva’s, they’re great boots as well but they’re a little more mission specific . My daily drivers are always my Salomon’s. The only thing I wish they would change on the Forces boots is the length of the laces. They’re obnoxiously long. lol. I know they’re speed laces but they’re just too much. I change those for shorter laces right away too. No issues. Other than that these boots are perfect, in my opinion. Highly recommended.

The plastic reinforcement is for fast rope, it's function specific.

Salomons for whatever reason run ridiculously small/narrow. I have not had the pair in this video but I have had two different Salomons boots/shoes and the one that was my actual size was completely un-wearable. Way too narrow. My second pair I made sure I ordered a half size up and this is still too narrow. And I did use the Salomon measure guide along with measuring my feet with the specific socks that I was going to use. Considering the price and the unavailability of this brand, making it hard to try before I buy, unfortunately I think I will stay away from Salomon.

Dammit.. I wear a 10.5 and my feet are wide. I just ordered a pair in 10.5..
Thanks for the info.. that’s the only thing I was worried about

They have wide variants for their other boots like x ultras but for Quest 4; they don’t have wide variants.
      I love the wide variants.

In addition to heavier socks which can cause its own set of issues...is there space to add another layer of cushion like a Dr. Scholls and I imagine they would go under the factory insole? Thank you.

cant decide between these or XA FORCES MID GORE-TEX

    • @UltimateSurvivalGear
      @UltimateSurvivalGear  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Here are a few considerations: 1. if you plan to carry heavy load more often than not, Quest 4D is a better choice. 2. if your prioritize speed and mobility, XA mid is the way to go. 3. if you expect rough terrain and need more protection from elements, Quest 4D.

Too heavy too stiff around the ankle and heel, they aren't an all round military boot they are more a mountaineering boot, you certainly wouldn't want to run an 8 mile or 10 mile battle run in them, don't get me wrong they are well constructed but they aren't flexible enough, or light enough. I've served in the military for 13 years and a military contractor for 15 years and these boots aren't even in my top 10 of boots I've owned. They look really cool which is good because I will probably look at them more than I will use them.
