Ateneo BS Biology in 13 Minutes! | My Pre-med Course

- Soooo, it's almost the end of my college journey. Quite frankly, it has already ended. I've lined up this video for quite some time now and I finally got around to making it! This video is about my pre-med course in Ateneo, which is BS Biology. I'm super glad this was only around 13 minutes. I had to cut down on intros and other lines because I didn't want to make this too long.
Before other Ateneans get up in my ass about it, I deliberately left out the core subjects in this video. Ateneo courses are more than just your major subjects because of the core curriculum. I only talk about my majors and biomedical sciences electives in this video because I wanted to highlight the pre-med side of my course. I am going to med school soon enough (I hope) so I wanted to talk about that first.

Hey guys for context, 5 years pa yung BS BIO at the time I took it! New curriculum of Ateneo BS Biology is NOW 4 years! Cheers!
Ateneo just announced that all classes will end by May 8, 2020 and they gave everyone a P (you passed the course)!
They will even refund a portion of our tuition fee.
Can I just say, I love the fact that they appealed to the well-fortunate people to donate their refunds instead! Ang sarap maging Atenista!

Hiiii! I'm an incoming 2nd year student in BS Biology major in Medical Biology in AdDU. Highly recommended yung MedBio na major if you're planning to pursue medschool soon. (as if i'm in the proper position to recommend hahaha)
Hindi ko pa naexperience yung buong program kasi incoming 2nd year pa ako, pero once makita mo yung curriculum, filtered-out na halos yung non-medical courses ng biology, at ang majors mo na lang ay yung mga essentials for Medschool.

Slef Slef Halu! Well, how and where do I start? jk haha. For the lecture subjects, from my experience, it’s manageable naman as long as you know how to balance your time. Yun nga lang, you can’t brush off that thought na maybe you could’ve learned and performed better if it was F2F since ya know bio and it’s kinda hard to study the materials on your own. Good thing tho, other profs provide vid lectures. Just try not to get too overwhelmed ig cuz a lot of the vids r info overload (understandable since there r a lot of topics to be covered esp some majors are quarterly instead of semestral so it’s fast paced + compressed). I cant rlly generalize since it would still greatly depend on the kind of prof u get (a lot of the profs in bio dept r cool and smart hehe). As for the lab classes, gahd my pamilee HAHAHA it’s exhausting and hard since it’s lab tapos some r quarterly pa so aside from the heavy workload, u rlly have to manage ur time well. worry not tho cuz they made some of the majors (mostly lab classes) semestral for this sem so u have more time to do them. Nagkataon lang na meron talagang ibang lab classes na quarterly pa rin so sucks :( anw, im not sure if they will still push thru with the quarterly system next sy, so ure gonna ba very lucky if gagawin ng semestral lahat ng subs esp ur majors and lab classes. But yeah sometimes i get sad kasi yung lab classes virtual lang so di mo makuha full experience. Anw, the love and support that admu gives is

Yo so I’m incoming freshman about to take the ACET and right now I can’t decide if I want to take up BS Bio, BS Psych or BS health sci because I honestly can’t really tell the difference between those 3 courses except that bio is 5 yrs lol. Just need some help deciding what course to choose since I can only choose up to 2 honors programs. Thanks!
BS BIO in ateneo is 4 years now by the way! I said it in a pinned comment in this video. I wish I can help with the other 2 courses but I don't know much about them.

Second, mahirap sagutin yan eh. Lahat naman makakatulong sa pagiging doktor pero iba lang magiging focus sa college!
Kung gusto mo na magka-hospital experience, pwede naman Nursing or MedTech. Sa Biology kasi, more on lectures lang talaga tapos minsan may classes na hindi related sa med.

Hi, I'm planning to study biology in Ateneo. Does it have a lot of recitation and reporting? I'm actually an anxious introvert and I'm not really fluent in english.
Hi Minnie! Actually it depends on the class. Plus I’m not sure how they handle reciting and reporting now that it’s online.
And not being fluent in english is perfectly okay. You’ll get used to it eventually. Believe it or not, I wasn’t fluent when I started going to Ateneo! I didn’t speak much english in our province eh so I struggled a bit but then I got used to it naman hehe.
Thank you so much! But, based on your experience, did you guys do oral exams/recitations, and if so, how frequently did you do them?
@@minnie3531 recitations in classes usually not required naman, to be honest even if it's graded I rarely recite unless I 100% know the answer im super quiet in class HAHA
for oral exams, usually core subjects like Philosophy and Theology have final exams that are oral exams. In my curriculum, I have about 4 philo and 4 theo classes.
Ooh. I don't think I'll be able to handle all of the oral exams, to be honest.
I've heard biology students say that they need to submit a lot of drawings and notes. Is that correct? I'm sorry for asking so many questions haha

I think oral exams are just something you have to get used to. I'm sure once you try one out, you'll figure it out!
for the drawings, I don't remember doing much actually. Maybe in some lab classes there are but it's not as much as you'd think!

@@MarcoMallillin it's almost the same with the bio program in ateneo po but we have specialized subjects related to medicine in 3rd and 4th year 🤗 like human anaphy, molecular medicine, medical parasitology
the bio program po kasi in UST is subdivided into 3 specializations, environmental bio, industrial bio and med bio 🤗
Ohh okay gets! Sa old Ateneo Bio kasi, pipili ka ng subjects mo eh hahaha
Sa new Ateneo Bio naman, pipili ka rin ng specialization and then subjects naman!

No, as a premed student chill ang bs bio and that is because kakaunti ang medicine related subjects

Hello Ralph! I think because Bio is a pretty flexible course, you have a lot of options when it comes to choosing a job
So far what I've gathered:
- Microbiology → required ang 24 units of microbiology courses
- Museum work
- Agriculture sector
- Conservation
- Biotechnology
- Sustainability NGOs
- Academe → teacher or research
- if you want, Law → my uncle pursued law after getting a BS Bio degree
The list goes on! Those are just the ones I've gathered from friends and family. Hehe

Sa pagkakaalam ko, hindi pwede dahil required ata na graduate ka dapat ng BS Nursing para makapag-board exam. Yun lang, hindi ako sigurado dito dahil walang nursing sa Ateneo eh. Hehe

Hi Jenard! I think it can be helpful especially if your subjects are geared towards biomedical sciences (Human Anatomy, Histology, etc.). These subjects are taken up during the first year of med school so I think it can help!
disclaimer though: I only recently graduated, sa September pa ako magmed but i asked my friends from BS BIO and they said the same thing naman hehehe

Kung gusto mo ng healthcare track, maganda naman either dahil pareho silang magbibigay ng opportunities para ituloy yan.
Mas specific nga lang ang medtech dahil talagang magkakahospital experience ka! Sa biology naman, mas flexible siya. At least sa Ateneo pwede kang kumuha ng subjects na related sa med, microbio, or ecology.
