    12:36 "in the traditional malt whisky making process, malted barley is turned by hand by malt men using large heavy malt shovels. Years ago, some malt men would develop a strain injury which had a tendency to cause their arm to hang down a bit like a monkey's"

    Old Fashioned, my absolute favorite whiskey cocktail. I've always liked it with Woodford or Four Roses, but surprisingly, one of the best I've ever had was made with Dickel.

    Hey Jeremy, I thought I’d answer your question about why it’s called monkey shoulder. It is a tribute to the Pete shovelers in Scotland, after many years of shoveling peat they start to go hunchback and develop what is known as “monkey shoulder”. Cheers!

    Monkey shoulder was named from the physical injury the mashers got from how they stired the mash during scotch making. The injury was named monkey shoulder by old Scottish doctors. Due to the removal of the stir from machinery advancements the injuries have since stopped , but monkey shoulder scotch is a really nice blend of 3 single malts.

    Love this video. The Old Fashioned is a great autumn/winter cocktail, that is when Oranges are in season here in the USA. I usually drink them from Thanksgiving through the first of the year. Whiskey Ginger, with Ale 8 and Woodford Reserve is a great all year round drink and I really enjoy them in the heat of the summer. In May my go to is a cocktail, which was not mentioned here and that is the Mint Julep. God bless you and your family.

    Great video love using a bit of real maple syrup in my old fashioned’s instead of the Demerara. But better to use rye as whiskey to offset the sweetness. The whiskey ginger is one of my go to hot weather drinks it’s just damn refreshing.

    LOL at that intro. Now we are all going think Jeremy's mind works like this: "Hmmm. been awhile since the old lady and I....ya know...Hey Honey! Wanna do another cocktails video with me?!" Love you two together. Hope the whole family is well
    I also like that take on the Old Fashioned. That drink has become such a personal number now with so many optional things to it. Love it.
    On a drink note, I have found everyone seems to want to have their own name for a Whiskey Highball. Which, in definition, is an iced drink containing liquor (such as whiskey) and water or a carbonated beverage (such as ginger ale) and served in a tall glass". Like Tullamore has one called a Ginger Dew. Myself, I enjoy a good Rye with the Ginger ale myself. A Russell's White Label is AMAZING in this. Sorry for the long response this video. A lot to chime in on. Again, thanks for all you do!

    You should try "Filthy" cherries, they're a little more on the tart end which is nice when you're making a cocktail that's already a little on the sweeter end due to adding simple syrup or some other sweetener, you get a little extra bite without the sweetness. Love Anders channel as well, been meaning to try something he mentioned with bourbon and a walnut liquor that I've been having trouble finding in my area

    TOTALLY agree with higher proof for this drink. My go-to is Noah's Mill. I also use the Old fashioned to determine how good a bartender/bar is for cocktails. I've had soooo many of these that I can speak to the nuances of them and can rattle off top bars. And those who muddle the red cherries and orange slice get the one drink order than get water for the rest of the night. :)

    Florida must be significantly behind the Illinois market. Early Times Bottled in Bond was completely gone in Illinois for at least a year, but I've started seeing bottles back on the shelves again within the past 6 months.

    • @JeremySiers
      @JeremySiers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I have never had good luck finding it here. But from what I hear the new bottles, now made by sazerac aren’t very good. Nothing like when it was a brown foreman product a year or so ago. Real bummer because it was one of my favorite budget bottles. 😏

    • @Vortex1988
      @Vortex1988 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JeremySiers Yeah, I must have gotten one of the older bottles from Brown Foreman because mine has a black cap. I don't know how that happened though because I bought it after a year or more without being able to find them. That store must have just gotten some old stock in or something. Either that or Sazerac was still filling bottles with Brown Foreman juice and using the old bottles. It is good for 1 liter at $25 though, and it definitely has that Brown Foreman banana profile. I can't really comment on the new stuff though because I haven't tried it yet. I actually thought I had a new bottle before I watched the Bourbon Junkies' video.

    2 oz Islay Scotch, 1/2 oz Mr. Black Cold Brew, bar spoon of sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes of those xocolatl mole bitters you got there. Stir and serve up. My favorite right now, it’s awesome, and is not for the faint of heart!
