NMS plants and stuff generation isn't actually just "different colors" for each thing. There are many layers, and variations of those layers, for each plant, tree, rock etc., but this is subject to the procedural fallacy, and the fact that human brains are very good at recognizing and grouping similar things automatically, so we register the same object even though it is actually a bit different from the last version we saw, even if it has a different color, but less so.
Not sure if Dan knows, but he's the perfect stoner entertainment.

the asteroid belt fight made me realise a few things
1: moving asteroids would make that fight really, hard, but also cool.
2: PVP in this game would be awesome. Especially if the prerequisite was that you were flying a ship gained by some new mission based meritocracy.
3: thank god the entire universe isnt just filled with asteroids anymore.

Tbf it deserved to flop. Didn't meet any substantial promises, and it barely counted as a game. But now it absolutely deserves to succeed - not only have they put a metric shit-tonne of work into it, they made that work count. Might even have to get it myself.

Yeah it's not bad now.
They still need to reduce the distance to galactic center though, 700,000 LY when you can only jump (with full upgrades) 4000-5000 LY at a time, is very slow.
100k would be more than enough, 75k is ideal. But 700k is ridiculous.
Galaxies are huge, it gives the game a sense of scale. If it takes a couple minutes to reach the middle, then it would lose its sense of scale.
Zech Of The West 700,000ly total, 4000ly jumps means it will take 175 jumps to reach the center. I think this is reasonable given that reaching the center should be a massive achievment. For context, to reach the center of the galaxy in Elite: Dangerous (closest thing I can compare this to) is about 26000ly and 34ly jumps so about 765 jumps for that one. I personally think that distance is reasonable, even if 700,000ly is a bit unrealistic for the distance from the edge to the center of a galaxy.
Except Elite Dangerous' Galactic Center isn't required for story.
And NMS's Galactic Center is, and it's not even worth it.

Coconut219 I said Warframe, not Overwatch. Warframe has no loot boxes and what micro-payments are there are a good example of how such things should be done.
Funny thing is, the "Humming Eggs" Dan fled in terror from are harmless, they just drop rare/valuable Pearls if broken. No monstrosities or horrors or terrible nightmares from them. The pearls do mean pirates will target you a bit, but thats about it.
I think what Dan was talking about were "Whispering Eggs" , those do exactly what he described.
At one point he digs under his base and finds eggs, assumes they're horrible, and flees the planet. But they were Humming eggs, the valuable harmless kind.

I had never seen whispering eggs for my entire 10 hour long perma death run, 10...hours, I had millions of units..
Hey Dan. The trick of getting away from the sentinals (other than jumping out of system) is to either hide somewhere on foot or get in your ship, then run away near the planet surface. If you let the timer run out before entering space they wont send ships after you.

Even if you spent 1 second on each planet, you still wouldn't explore all the planets, and there's not enough of us gamers to explore the entire galaxy.

Sorry, I meant "stars." But it looks like yes, and that star systems have planets grouped, instead of what I feared, just a smattering of planets throughout space.
Ah, gotcha. Yep, planets are grouped into systems, which usually in my experience have 1-5 planets.

Probably, but the game is more dynamic on Normal, since you're not invincible. I just play on Normal, and cheat myself to whatever I don't want to grind.

It is still struggling to find the gameplay at times, I would reccomend PC because sales (Full price is still a stretch unless unfinished games is what turns you on, and saving money with zero effort in any situation is better right?) and being able to mod stuff, also general performance and online connection reasons.

Hell, it's Minecraft, and Ark too... to an extent.
Subnautica isn't procedurally generated... this and Minecraft on PC, are.
It's also immensely easier to get resources in this game then it is subnautica, you have to spend hours scrounging around in the dirt/sand of a biome filled with overpowered monster fish just to find random bodules that blend in with the stone and more likely then not doesn't contain the very specific material you are looking for

The newest update makes it awesome, and pretty much as great as the E3 showcase. I applaud Hello Games for sticking to it and making it an actual game that is fun to play. They could have easily took the money and ran.

They overhyped it to get as many people pre-ordering as possible and then released a terrible game that slowly redeemed itself, with the game now being one of the most popular games at the moment, gaining even more money for Hello Games.
