    What’s truly scary is a guy did an in-depth analysis of the attack itself, and the Japanese missed about 40% of the stuff they shot at, and focused more than half of their attack solely against the battleships. The attack could have been two to three times more devastating than it actually was.

      The primary goal was to stop the battleship line of the pacific fleet from immediatly retaliating and disrupting the japanese plan of invasion of South East Asia giving a 6 months windom of opportunity to Japan. The japanese also wanted to prevent any possibility of Hawaï air forces to counter attack against Kido Butai. They did that to the letter. Yes they could have caught a carrier or 2 and they also could have inflicted far more damages to the cruisers and destroyers of the US pacific fleet and also to the navy facilities at Pearl. But those were not the primary targets. Unfortunately this plan was a folly. The old battleship line was obsolete and the US had no intention to send them against the Philipines on day one. The destroyers and cruisers of the pacific fleet proved to be far more valuable. Pearl Harbour did not knock out the pacific fleet the slightest. Every japanese assumptions proved to be wrong.

      Actually the Japanese really wanted the Aircraft carriers, but none of them were in port on that day. Also the Imperials for some reason didn't launch a second wave to go after the massive oil and fuel reserves on the island. Two major blunders by the IJN.

      @@Frankie2012channela bit mistaken - there was a second way of air attack. Mostly on airfields and some ships remaining "on water". But Japanese admiral stopped third wave of attack - and leave repairing docks and oil reservoirs undamaged. And this was, how history shows later, literally a strategic mistake.

      Wrong the main target was the Aircraft Carrier the docks, the fuel Depots and least the Battleships. Japanese didnt saw CVs so they decidet to get glory Kills instead of mission. @@vlad78th

Nevada and Pennsylvania's are similar in aesthetics, due to their twin bell like towers on fore to aft, the only difference is their guns, Nevadas has ten guns while the Pennsylvanias has 12 guns. Tennessee and Colorados are also similar in aesthetics on their towers, only difference is once more is their guns. Tennessees has triple gun turrets while the Colorados have twin "16 turrets.

    Okay, the attack didn’t begin with low level strafing runs. Also, if you’re housed in the officer housing on Ford Island, your dishes rattling wouldn’t be the first indication of something wrong. You’d hear everything like it was right outside your door, because it was. Where the Utah sank wasn’t even 200 meters from the housing. The little curious girl playing in her yard during the initial attack would’ve definitely felt her bones rattle from the concussion of the explosions she was seeing. Even at her age she would’ve known that something terrible was happening and that her life were in danger. She would’ve run before her mom could even say a word. Maybe the producers could’ve actually used common sense when producing this super cliche movie. The movies always make this attack out to be on a huge area. Hickam and Pearl aren’t big as compared to most targets. One bomb blowing up anywhere on either of the bases were felt and mostly visible across the bases. There are still scars all across the bases on Oahu. Hell, even the barracks I operated out of for 9 years still had bullet holes and shrapnel damage from the attack on the island. You can still find patched bomb craters on most of the airfields that we use to this day.

      My father was living in the hills above Honolulu when Michael Bay was filming his version of Pearl Harbor. One of the practical explosions in the harbor was so loud that it rattled windows all the way up the H2 freeway into Aiea and Waipahu. You're correct in that everyone would be hearing the explosions in the harbor, unless they were up the H2 into Wahiawa and even then you got a clear visual of the harbor from there too.

    • @dane0phelps
      @dane0phelps 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Frankie2012channel well they’d have seen the attack in Wahiawa too though. Wheeler and Schofield were hit pretty hard. The initial wave’s flight path was through the Kolekole Pass and subsequently over Schofield and Wheeler. I’d heard that the attackers had strafed civilians in Wahiawa but I’m not sure if that’s accurate. When I was first assigned to 25th Infantry Division LRRS-D in 2004 I lived in D Quad on Schofield and thought it was so cool that there were still scars of the attack around the quads. Hickam has more buildings like that though. Did you ever see all of the ship components and pieces still scattered around the edge of the water of Pearl and Ford Island? When I was first assigned to Hawaii I was stunned by how much of the remnants of the attack were still not fixed or removed. It makes you think of how bad the aftermath must’ve been if it is still so visible so much later.

  • @Rayrard
    @Rayrard 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Why not have the Kate torpedo planes going low and perpendicular to the line as the first sign of attack. You even have the actor casually looking to the left after being dressed down and seeing the bombers dropping their torpedoes. The Zeroes were only escorts and were expected to cover the bombers and then strafe the airfields after their charges finished their attack. Then the high level bombers dropped their heavy bombs from high altitude like shown (kind of but they looked quite low). I think the only torpedo shown was dropped like a skip bomb off the bow of a battleship at point blank range. The torpedo would not even arm. The Zeroes would not be weaving in between exploding ships as the Zeroes were light and vulnerable to Flak. You can make a good cinematic Pearl Harbor without making it so inaccurate.
