    One more tip for those not shooting with an external monitor. Turn on Natural Live View to put a LUT on the display when shooting in F-Log. It turns off while filming, but for setting up the shot it's a great help.

    You should probably explain how to set the shutter speed to 1/48th in Movie Mode. For others looking for the answer, set the shutter speed dial on the top of the camera to 1/60th. Then spin the rear command dial to adjust the SS to 1/48th. The rear command dial must be configured to adjust SS (program shift) to dial it in exactly.

    Great video! One correction only ,the silent controls are not because the dials are noisy. It is for not affecting your photo settings by not touching the dials. For example if your photo shutter is 1/250, instead of rotating the dial that will affect photo and video, you change it via the touchscreen. So when you go back to shooting photos, all your settings are untouched :)

    This was so helpful and so in-depth. I'm comparing cameras to shoot video with, and I haven't shot since before digital. A photographer friend suggested this camera and I'm doing as much research as possible before I pull the trigger. All of the technical aspects are a little overwhelming and will take some learning, but I'm excited to get back to shooting and learning a new medium. What do you suggest I read or watch to learn more about the more technical things you talked about?

    • @SierraCreative
      @SierraCreative  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would look into shooting videos with mirrorless cameras tutorials - understanding shutter rules and FPS and how they work together is important. Great video! Some people say that some Fujinon lenses have noisy autofocus, and that it doesn't work well for things like interviews, or when mounting a mic like Rode Videomic on top of the camera. What is your experience and what lenses do you shoot video with?

    • @SierraCreative
      @SierraCreative  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ozzy Slant the Fuji Lenses can be noisy but you can still get good audio from a Rode mic when doing an interview. Something like the rode lapel mics would be a better for interview stuff though. My favorite Fuji lenses are the Fuji 23mm f/1.4 & 56mm f/1.2 . The 23mm is great for video! I also like using the Fringer EF adapter and using canon glass. The AF works great on the Fringer Pro II!

    Hi, very helpful, thanks. X-T3 arrived yesterday, first Fuji camera. What a premium feeling and good looking camera! 2 Things and excuse me if this is dumb, quite new to all this. 1. If you use the 120fps and reduce to 60fps in camera, how is it affected if you then use it in a 24 FPS timeline say for example as B Roll? 2. I can’t really understand the best way to update firmware - I assumed I could do this via PC but you need to get an app and use WiFi? Thanks again, really wanted this for video mainly so useful to have video focused tutorial.

    • @SierraCreative
      @SierraCreative  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel McCarthy what editor are you using ? You would simply take the 60fps footage and then convert it / interpret the footage to 24fps in Adobe Premiere or Davinci. You could drop in the editor and render but you won’t get the same affect until your interpret the footage.
      The best way to update is from either the Fuji app and update on promp once phone is connected to camera or download the Fuji firmware upgrade on Fuji’s website and drop it to an sd cafe that has been formatted in your Fuji. Put that sd card into camera. Hold down the display button on back when powering on, and you’ll be prompted to upgrade firmware version.
      Hope that helps.

      PascalFunkMedien you can put the footage in an NLE and stack them. Lower the opacity or top by 50 and move a frame back. This will did the affect but also introduce some blur. The best thing to do is buy video specific lights.

    At 16:01 you mentioned F-Log starts at 640 iso and you have the option to lower the iso if you like. Will changing the DR setting to 100 or 200 do so? I am looking into getting this camera and was thinking of a variable ND filter for it. If I were to use 640 iso I would need a 5-11 stop ND. However if I can lower the iso to 200 for example using F-log then I suppose the 1-7 stop would work just fine. Any thoughts on this since you are by a beach and plenty of sunshine. Thanks

    • @SierraCreative
      @SierraCreative  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark Chen you can only adjust the DR of Iso - which will give you more recovery one way or the other. To be honest, the Eterna Profile is really flat and is a great option when filming in bright conditions. I only use a variable ND when it’s necessary, but I prefer matte box with single filters or stacking filters if it’s a must.

    loved the video! Will save me some time exploring myself , thanks! I encountered one issue with the xt2, when I film in artificial light at home in slowmotion (120 or 100 fps), I get flicker on the screen as I want to adjust my shutter speed according to the 180° rule ((240 ss or 200ss). Have you experienced the same ? Is there a way to encounter this issue? Thanks

    • @SierraCreative
      @SierraCreative  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geert Janssens yes. Some lights are slow and when you shoot at High frame rates your are catching the lights recycle time. If you are just shooting broll you can late fix this in post by duplicating the layer, set the opacity to 50% and then advance by one frame. I hope that makes sense. Otherwise buy a good light for filmmaking or use natural light. Some lights just induce flicker.

My Sony has multiple profiles where 1 is 4k24 and the other 1080 120 and my M mode is my photo exposure so switching between that 3 is just a turn away. Does Fuji have that? Excellent video.
    When shooting video and panning from dark to light areas (such as sunlit areas to shadow areas) and vice versa., the exposure is changing in jumps rather than smooth transitions, which doesn't seem the case in other camera brands like the Sony or Canon. Those don't have that problem: their exposure changes are rather smooth. I have tried different combinations of aperture, shutter speed and ISO and all resulted in the same problem: jumps or steps in exposure change (or ramping or whatever it's called) as you move from dark to light areas and vice versa. I have read here and there that others have experienced the same. Has anyone here faced this problem, and if so, is there any solution? Everyone is praising the X-T3's video capabilities, but I haven't seen any reviewers tackle this issue, and frankly I am very frustrated as I bought the X-T3 for the main purpose of shooting video.
    PS: my basic set up is 4k 59.94fps, shutter speed fixed at 120, fixed aperture, ISO set to Auto. As I mentioned I have also tried other combinations of ISO/aperture/shutter speed settings but all had the same negative result.

    • @SierraCreative
      @SierraCreative  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't use Auto exposure at all... I have never done this on any professional shoot. I rely on de-clicked aperture or Variable ND filters. You never want to auto shutter!!!!! Your shutter should be kept at double the FPS... for example, if you are shooting 25fps, your shutter should be at 1/50s- This will give you the best shutter angle possible for smoother footage. If you want that auto everything video... a camcorder might be a better option for you.

    • @jakou117
      @jakou117 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SierraCreative Thanks for your reply.
      You may have misunderstood me so let me clarify: as I mentioned I use a fixed shutter speed (1/120s as I'm shooting at 59.94fps). Aperture is fixed as well. The only auto setting is ISO. I have opted for auto ISO (instead of fixed ISO) because I wanted to avoid full manual settings, for convenience obviously. But at these settings, I am experiencing the horrible jumps in exposure change (obviously caused by the ISO setting being on Auto) as the camera is moving from bright to dark areas and vise versa. If I understood you correctly, as long as I'm using auto ISO I will not get smooth footage. Instead, I should fix both my shutter speed and ISO, and rely on a de-clicked aperture lens (or ND filter in case a de-clicked aperture lens is not possible) in order to compensate for changes in the lighting situation. And that would be the only way to achieve smooth footage. Is my understanding correct?
      If so, any particular tips on how to efficiently use a variable ND filter in this case? (as a de-clicked aperture lens is not an option for me for the time being).
      Thanks again.

    Hopefully someone with an X-T3 can weigh in here..... I just bought mine (second hand, but in super good condition, at least on the outside), but I'm worried I bought a lemon :o It warms up very quickly. Even just flipping through the menu for a few minutes, I can feel it warming up (especially on the bottom). I shot some 4k 60p video today. My total recording time came to under 13 minutes, but the battery was down to 65%, with quite a bit of heat being generated by the camera body. Is this normal???? In comparison, my Sony a6500 runs much cooler and with better battery life.

      sfusiondj Lee yes that’s normal with 4K 60fps I can do 14-15mins most, due to body is super hot and need to shut down compulsory
