Glad you brought up the lack of upper back support of the back rest. What chair do you recommend for upright posture? IMO the Aeron also doesn't provide you the upper back support, even in Forward Tilt Mode. A lot of chairs have a lack of upper back support for upright sitting. Most of the backrests are slanted backwards and mostly give you only a little bit of lumbar support.
I have this chair and you hit on everything I have to say about it as well, both the positives and negatives. For the massive price delta between what I paid for my loaded Zody vs Steelcase or HM, I'm willing to accept the compromises. I love the lumbar adjustment, forward tilt and the fact it's built like a tank. I have the black quick ship and my base is metal. Not sure if they've changed it recently. They don't make it super clear so I didn't really know what base I would get, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it was metal painted black.
I have scoliosis so the feature that I heard about that interested me the most was the independent adjustability of the amount of oomph of the left and right side lumbar adjustment. Thanks for covering that feature.

Pretty sure most high end office chairs don't have a perfectly upright back, whilst tilted forward. But you're more than welcome to try out the Soji, Fern, Aeron and Mirra 2, since all those chairs have a forward tilt feature.

I will be using it as a gaming chair so having adjustable but steady armrests are important to me. I have probably watched 20 of your videos on a binge without finding the perfect one for me yet :/
I really need some help finding a chair. I'm not exactly strapped for cash, but I have a tough time convincing myself that it is okay to spend hundreds of dollars on a chair. I'd prefer to spend less than $400, but given my size, if I don't have any other options, I can settle for spending a couple hundred more. I am 6'5 (about 195 cm), 320 lbs. I am located in the US. I prefer to sit normally and/or leaned back. I'd like something with a very tall back rest. I've got very wide hips. I don't particularly care for lots of lumbar. I sit for 3-4 hours at a time. I've never owned a mesh chair, but something breathable is very appealing. Of course, with my weight, mesh may not hold up. The material is not a deal breaker at all. I'm not too picky as long as I fit in the chair and it supports me. I don't really have a favorite style/design. Since my last chair broke I've been using a chair from my dining table set. It's not enjoyable at all. Thank you 🙏

Hi! I believe it has a big height range due to the fact that it can be set in perch mode and it is soft all around with a fairly tall back. If you are on the shorter end (under 5'3), you could use a footrest to help you get that flat feet on the floor feel. But, because of the perch mode, you could be shorter and still get your feet on the ground. I believe it's a solid option for tallll people as well, even up to 6'4 or 6'5.
My Haworth has the tilt forward feature and I never use it but it's not offensive and doesn't feel that bad and in the right situation I could see it being useful. I like being able to move the seat pad back and forward independently just like in my Mercedes.
Hi, just wanted to ask if you by any chance have plans to make a video about HM Mirra? Or maybe if you have any thoughts about it? :p I really appreciate your videos and couldn't really find anoyone else mentiong things about the Mirra (which you usually do). Like is it possible to sit in it curled up? How's stretching in the chair (both arms and back)? Is the backrest flexible, comfortable etc
Re. the criticism about the backrest pushing your shoulders forward and being unable to sit back and keep your chest open, what are some better chairs for someone who wants upper back support but doesn't like their shoulders pushed forward?
I have a Haworth chair that I bought 4 years ago or so and the lumbar knobs... or whatever the term is... rotate independently in case you need support on a particular side. I've never found that useful (but maybe someone does). Does the lumbar support on this model have the same functionality?
Is it normal for the Haworth Zody II to slam forward every time you stand up? I don’t even have to stand up, even just leaning forward to tie my shoe or pick something up will create a loud bang and I feel the chair slam forward
This is a cool chair for standing desks but it’s probably not for me. I’m looking for a premium chair that is comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. I have had experience with an aeron in the past at work and I loved it! I’ve also sat in a friends 2019 secretlabs evo and thought it was nice material and quality but a little stiff/firm for my liking. right now i’m considering an aeron, the Leap V2 from Crandall's office, Anda Kaiser 3, or or the SecretLab Evo. I’m most concerned with the comfort of the seat cushion, and most importantly how it will work for my gaming habits, where I must lean forward half the time and do not use arm rests. I’m 6ft 1 and weigh 140 lbs. Thoughts?
Hey man I bought a zody and I was wondering about the tilt adjustment lever. When I turn it clockwise to lessen the tilt it feels much tighter and harder to turn. If I turn the lever counterclockwise it's much easier and smooth. Is this normal?
On the armrest part I'm missing good shots on how it looks from the front and side when you sit in it and reposition them front/back/side (on most of your videos and the firms own pages).

I’ve just found your channel from this video, and this is a really great review! 🙌 I’ve been eyeing the Haworth Zody for a while and really want to try it out because I think it might be a great option for me. Unfortunately and really disappointingly, in the UK apparently I can only get the black mesh black fabric seat black plastic frame option! 😫 That model with 4D arms and forward tilt is only £650 right now in the BF sale… but I don’t want a black one! I really like the Balsam and Water colourways… though it’s good to know the seating fabric is itchy, because I hate that! I saw comments on the US site from people saying the same thing… I guess it’s because it contains 45% wool (I can’t find the page where I saw the fabric composition breakdowns now, but it was around there). The configurator lets you pick from a whole bunch of advanced options for fabrics, though I’ve noticed the URL contains b2b so maybe it’s for companies and not mere mortals to choose specifics… I’m on a seemingly never-ending quest to find the perfect-for-me desk chair. In the office at work I had a hand-me-down Posturite Positiv Plus High Back chair (www.posturite.co.uk/positiv-plus-high-back-c5558394#pinfo-btm-m), and apart from being a bit janky in some ways due to being over 10 years old (the back wobbled and rattled a bit, and there was something wrong with the arms), it was massively more comfortable and supportive than any other office chair I’d sat in thus far! I was having some pain in my lower back and also hips/knees, and switching to this chair with the extra inflatable lumbar support was an amazing relief 😌 When it came to WFH though… lets face it, that chair is just a huge ugly lump of black plastic! I live in a small apartment and didn’t want something that bulky and “officey” dominating the room (my desk is in my open plan living room/kitchen/dining room). A lot of research later I opted for a refurbed Humanscale Freedom (with headrest), in standard black fabric but with the polished chrome frame and base. It looks pretty sleek for an office chair… but I’m totally over the black and chrome aesthetic and want something a bit warmer/fresher and more homey. The gas lift has also been broken for ages and I don’t have the tools to swap it out myself (though I could probably persuade a friend or neighbour to help…) and both arm pads are utterly destroyed, due to a combination of my apparently pointy elbows and also my cats (whose claws are much more pointy 😂), plus the cats have treated it like a climbing frame so it’s all a little bit creaky. More importantly, I just can’t get it to be comfortable and supportive enough. The headrest is always positioned wrong for me because I have long hair almost always in a ponytail or a bun, so its just not compatible with the head rest… the back goes up and down and the seat depth is adjustable, but not the seat tilt… and I feel like the standard seating position just leans back too far, so I’m often not getting the support of the back of the chair if I’m sitting more upright/leaning forwards (and lets face it, probably also slouching). For a long time my desk was an old dining table, which was too high for comfortable typing on (especially with a broken gas lift meaning I can’t extend the height of the chair!), and while I have a sit-stand desk now, I’m mostly using that to lower the desk height to work with my broken chair 😂 Unless I can find a way to get the good and interesting colours in the UK though, I guess my search continues…
This was an incredibly detailed comment! Thank you for taking the time to write it!! I personally did not like the Humanscale Freedom..the auto tilt destroyed my back haha. I know it may be difficult, but perhaps consider getting a used Aeron! And then get an Atlas Headrest, and experience the EXTREME upgrade in headrest support!! Best wishes on your search, and let me know if you ever find that perfect chair!!!
What makes you say that? These chairs come with multi-floor castors, that are perfectly usable on laminate/hardwood flooring, without sliding around like crazy.
@@StardustLegacyFighter If you try to do the seating position he is demonstrating without locking the wheels (or being on a carpet), you are going to end having the chair slide out from under you.
@@RecklessFables Nope. The HAG Capisco, which is famous for allowing ppl to sit like that doesn't come with locking castors either. Yet no one has ever complained about the chair sliding on carpet or hardwood flooring.
Here’s the one I use: geni.us/LQifjA But you can get a slipper version: geni.us/kMtC They are the BEST SLIPPERS I’ve EVER used. I’m Asian - I wasn’t allowed to wear shoes in the house nor do I understand why people do it. Until I wore these. Super warm with socks in the winter, wicks all the sweat away in the summer. Responsible cheat days are actually very important though. Who cares if something is the best way if no one is actually willing to do it? If a lean chair gets you to half-stand when you'd otherwise sit (or just quit standing altogether) then it's done an excellent job.
@@spacemew268 That's not called a tilt lock, because you can still move the back from that position to the neutral position. It's a tilt limiter/backstop mechanism and it works very differently.
@@StardustLegacyFightercan you explain? My understanding is that if you dial up the tilt tension on the Embody, that will essentially lock the back in place

@@rich5916 what don’t you like about the build quality? I think the digital knit fern is pretty well built, esp compared to a leap v2, so need help understanding what you see as flaws. @@Ahnestly I noticed the arms rattle. The height adjustment lever was also broken when I received this one. In the previous model I got the cover was coming off the back panel. Thanks I’ll have to take a closer look at the embody.
@@Ahnestly I absolutely see the appeal of having an OLED display. They look stunning. But even the 42" C2 is still much too tall to be used in an ergonomic desk setup in my opinion.
Using a chair with a raised height, with a height adjustable standing desk, is probably the most pointless thing I've ever seen in this space. The only time it makes sense to have that setup is when you have a tall, fixed height desk; even then I'd probably just use a draught chair instead. If you're able to adjust the height of your chair and desk, then there's no reason to sit whilst in the stand up position.
Sitting puts a lot of strain on your back, and the human body gains a host of minor 'atrophies' if you slouch or it does not move around enough. Rocking in a traditional office chair does the job, but new chairs w/ flexible backs or sit-to-stand features helps you to stretch more effectively and to get onto your feet, which is a godsend for those spending >30hrs/wk in their chairs.

Ok but what's the sweater? 👀
Love the video, what kind of shoes are those???
Could be Bombas socks. I got something similar for my girlfriend and those look almost identical.
Naw naw give me a minute. Eating lunch with fam. I got a affiliate link bc people asked so much! Lol!
Here’s the one I use: geni.us/LQifjA
But you can get a slipper version: geni.us/kMtC
They are the BEST SLIPPERS I’ve EVER used. I’m Asian - I wasn’t allowed to wear shoes in the house nor do I understand why people do it. Until I wore these. Super warm with socks in the winter, wicks all the sweat away in the summer. I got the shoe version bc I’m dealing with heavy equipment and moving a lot in the studio - don’t wanna trip and fall trying to keep slippers on my feet!!
I kind of hate them and I kind of want them. LOL
You know you want them. I thought they were so ugly. Now they’re the most beautiful thing in all the world.
lmao using a chair with standing desk, its the equivalent of cheat days in diets 🤣🤣🤣
So…basically me. every. single. day. Lolol
Responsible cheat days are actually very important though.
Who cares if something is the best way if no one is actually willing to do it?
If a lean chair gets you to half-stand when you'd otherwise sit (or just quit standing altogether) then it's done an excellent job.
No it's so you can switch work position easily which is better than staying in one position for prolonged periods.
Can you do a review of ikea STYRSPEL?
So frustrating the fact that it doesn’t have tilt lock. Is there any other high end with tilt lock like the Embody?
The Embody doesn't have tilt lock.
@@StardustLegacyFighter it does, the back locks into 3 specific positions
@@spacemew268 That's not called a tilt lock, because you can still move the back from that position to the neutral position.
It's a tilt limiter/backstop mechanism and it works very differently.
@@StardustLegacyFightercan you explain? My understanding is that if you dial up the tilt tension on the Embody, that will essentially lock the back in place
What is the minimum height? Couldn't find that in specifications
Hey! Minimum height for what?
@@Ahnestly seat
@@nw6066 17.5” to 24.5” from floor to top of seat pad!
Is it just me or is the stitching on the front seam a little jenky? That would bug me, especially for the price.
hi !! great video, i discovered you today and loved your work.( i have subscribe )

what's the footrest at 5.27?
Not in front of a screen but I’ve got a video on footrests! I Tested 8 Different Footrests!

@@Ahnestly i saw that one, but can't tell for sure. Is it the Kensington? The dealers where i live dont have the footmachine anymore :( they just have the new rocking version
Would you do a new leap or new fern digital knit?
Fern digital knit. I don’t love the lower back of the leap v2. If you decide to pick up, please consider using my link! Helps the channel a lot!
@@Ahnestly I’m sitting on the digital knit fern at the moment haha and find the build quality to not be that good. Could you explain what you don’t like about the lower back of the leap? Any other chairs that are better in the $1200-1500 price point?
@@rich5916 what don’t you like about the build quality? I think the digital knit fern is pretty well built, esp compared to a leap v2, so need help understanding what you see as flaws.
As for alternatives…for just like $100ish more, you can get a non gaming embody on sale right now :) haha my #1 pick!
@@Ahnestly I noticed the arms rattle. The height adjustment lever was also broken when I received this one. In the previous model I got the cover was coming off the back panel. Thanks I’ll have to take a closer look at the embody.
@@rich5916 If you bought the chair new whatever's broken is under warranty still.
Is that a deskhaus apex pro I see?
Big boi desk.
8:06 Welp scratch this one off the list then, I guess lol
Frustratingly, this chair isn't available in Canada.
No way this guy has a room full ergo chairs and standing desks but uses a huge ass TV as a monitor.
I love Using it as my monitor! Using a 4K OLED TV as a Monitor? Watch this!
th-cam.com/video/BLCCZQxQ3mM/w-d-xo.html
@@Ahnestly I absolutely see the appeal of having an OLED display. They look stunning. But even the 42" C2 is still much too tall to be used in an ergonomic desk setup in my opinion.
@@ciousli Hahaha I don't know what to tell ya...my 48" monitors at home and in the studio have been a game changer for me!
Using a chair with a raised height, with a height adjustable standing desk, is probably the most pointless thing I've ever seen in this space.
The only time it makes sense to have that setup is when you have a tall, fixed height desk; even then I'd probably just use a draught chair instead.
If you're able to adjust the height of your chair and desk, then there's no reason to sit whilst in the stand up position.
chair for a standing desk..........whats the point of standing ?
Sitting puts a lot of strain on your back, and the human body gains a host of minor 'atrophies' if you slouch or it does not move around enough.
Rocking in a traditional office chair does the job, but new chairs w/ flexible backs or sit-to-stand features helps you to stretch more effectively and to get onto your feet, which is a godsend for those spending >30hrs/wk in their chairs.
@@Nersius I think he's talking about using a chair, whilst the desk is in the standing position.
FIRST
YES!!
Worst desk chair I’ve ever used.
I recommend checking out these plans. I am a woodglut customer and I am very happy with the plans they offer
