After months of watching videos, I bought the Amia, let’s see how it goes. It was between that and the Gesture, but everyone was saying that the Amia is better so. By the way your set up looks almost like mine lol
Well, I can tell you that the chair is very good. However, l have to raise the lumbar support all the way up because otherwise it will cause me some discomfort in the lower part of my back.
Hey man! Great video! About the audio, you should consider running a high pass filter on your narration audio layer. It removes the deep uncomfortable pops. Usually you can only hear these on the more high end audio output devices. Just a tip from an audio engineer though. Keep making these great reviews!
Thanks! Yea I'm a guitar player so I definitely get that. There just so many moving part when it comes to making these videos when it comes to recording all the different A roll and B roll clips and editing them all together that it's easy to overlook the audio engineering, which is a whole separate thing in it's own!
If you buy new from Steelcase, it should come fully built (or at least it used to). Steelcase says on their site that it require a little bit of assembly but when I got my Amia new it was fully built. If you buy refurbished, it'll require assembly but either way the assembly is very quick since the seat, backrest, armrests, and mechanism are already assembled. You just need to drop the cylinder into the base and attach it to the rest of the chair.
Hey, great vid. wondering what rollerblade style casters do you have on the chairs in the shot at 9:10 ? really like the clean clear look of them. thanks
Hi - No problem. Here is a link to the casters that I'm using amzn.to/4cOcDqg I really like the roller blade casters especially for hard floor, but they're pretty good for all purpose, and they look nice. I have a lot of chairs that I need to roll around the floor to make these videos, so the roller blade casters are great since they glide really easily!
Just got one of these for 700 pesos = 35 USD... Its a really nice chair and for the price i bought it for I dont think I could have gotten a better chair. I have the blue one
Hey Dan, this is very helpful! I'm a guitar player as well and looking for a chair with armrests that work with playing sitting down. Do the armrests on the amia go low & backwards enough so that they don't bump into the guitar body? I play Strats and place the guitar on my right leg. Thanks so much!!
@@louisxue3292 Hi there, yea personally I think the Amia’s armrests go low enough to get them out of the way. Theyre some of the most adjustable armrests youre gonna get on a chair. The only thing that would be better would be chairs where the arms actually flip up and out of the way, but from my experience none of the chairs that do that are good armrests/chairs that I would actually like using every day
Hard to choose just one, especially since I tend to cycle between a dozens of chairs regularly to test them for these reviews. The Herman Miller Embody, Steelcase Amia/Leap, and Haworth Fern are ones that I consistently keep coming back to
Thank you for such a detailed review. My search is for a chair that does not squeak, even after a few years of use. I heard AKRacing was good, but then saw videos that gaming chairs are not ergonomic. Any comments on squeaking with Steelcase after a few years? And, I like a headrest, do they have one with a headrest?
Hi there, thanks for the comment! So, currently none of my Steelcase chairs squeak, though over years of use it's pretty common that you'll find some slight creeking sounds. Since ergonomic chairs have a lot of adjustability by design, there's inherently going to be more moving parts. Over time, the natural friction of the parts rubbing against each other/compressing on each other may eventually cause some creeking sounds. As for AKRacing, that's a budget bucket style racing chair. I have experience with it and I was pretty underwhelmed. Pretty much all of those racing chairs aren't the most ergonomic due to their practically flat backrests. They're okay for lounging, but really can't even compare to something like the Amia. As for the headrest, the Amia doesn't have a headrest. The Leap, which is one step up, is similar to the Amia and has a headrest, but it's pretty bad in my opinion. The Steelcase Gesture has one of the best headrests I've used on any chair, but is pretty darn expensive. Hope this helps!
Haha Thanks! Yea, I'm a huge Street Fighter nerd. The leverless controller I'm using is the Haute42 M16 plus. I really like it! Its slim and has a an all metal design kinda like the Razer Kitsune, but with extra buttons and less than half the price. amzn.to/3MfDW1Q
Great video, thanks for the detailed breakdown. You mentioned the padding is very thin and you wouldn’t bottom out after sitting 8 hours in the chair every day. Would you say that would still be the case in the long term (10-15 years from now) based on your experience with steelcase chairs? That’s one of my biggest concerns holding me back about the Amia based on some other articles/reviews I’ve read
Hi - So, my first Steelcase Leap v2 that I bought was used from 2007 and I still didn't have any issues with the seat pad bottoming it. Over time, sometimes the foam will compress in on itself and some people mistake that as bottoming out when it's actually not. If you're concerned about the thin padding (which you should expect to be a firm sit) then you could try checking out Crandall Office's remanufactured Amia or Leap (Link the description 😉) because they actually replace the foam pad with a new one that they tooled themselves which actually adds a bit of extra padding based on customer feedback. You can check out their video on their Amia seat pad here th-cam.com/video/dE8YHxXjQZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Gcxk5_-arS0SW4R2
Awesome, let me know what you think. My luck on eBay has been hit or miss. Sometimes the condition is great, others you could really tell it was worn down by how rickety and loose the armrests/seat pan were.
@@sleeksetups Now you're scaring me haha for the price sounds like I'm not gonna get a very good one. Do you know if Crandall refurbishes these Amia's for $200 like they do with the leaps? Might just keep it if it's not terrible and have them refurbish it

does the Amia come prebuilt like the Haworth Soji?

@@James-wc1mt the Amia is much better but its double the price unless you get it refurbished
great review, going to go with the AMIA.
