    Put the notches deeper and closer together- and much longer notch stick- I’ve done it and got worms for over 60 yrs- I’m 73 and it still works for me

    My granddad actually had two steel rods, one with notches to put in the ground and one for rubbing against the first! He would use them in the flower garden and always seemed to get the worms to come up. The rods were about 1/2 inch in diameter and 18" long. He always told me to push the rod about 10" in the ground and never hold the top, because it reduced the amount of vibration. I could get it to work in the garden but never in the yard, I now think it might of had something to do with the soil density but I'm not sure!? I love the fact that you don't give up and you just get away from it and think on it so you can give it a shot again some day :) Great video my friend! Atb Sty

    I made one of these in my last video. Some spots didn't produce any worms at all. Wooded areas with leaf litter seemed to work the best for me. It's not 100 percent successful, but I'm a believer.

    Clever video, but no matter what you say, that really is an ugly jacket.
    Thanks for not having loud "music" on your video. The sound of the
    river is all you need,

    • @cagedraptor
      @cagedraptor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree about the music. I learned a long time ago that the "music" was a distraction and that, like myself, most who watch my videos enjoy the music of Nature much better. As for the jacket I can accept you think the jacket is ugly but I really like it and to be honest it has become a symbol of my channel. If this one ever gets worn out I will be getting another one I'm sure.

      I'm sure that it could work. From this video, rather the comments on this video, I have learned more than I ever really need or care to know about this topic. It was fun and entertaining but I'll stick to a shovel or going out during a good rain. Plus there is always bait shops.

  • @heathschwab

    I can see it working also. Maybe still to cold. Worms really come out after it's 75 don't they. And red worms and Earth worms maybe different. Maybe get some night crawlers but weight till it's warmer out. But have you ever tried Dawn dish soap and water I hear it works. I don't remember if I tried that when I was younger. Can't remember when I was told that. But there's the rods you could buy that shocks the ground makes worms come up. But so many fake things and editing you can make it happen when it's not really happing so I won't believe till someone I believe tryed and it works. But bummer this didn't work I really was thinking it would. Thanks for trying for us. God bless

    • @cagedraptor

      Bentley's Backwoods Bushcraft if you look up Catfish and carp channel Mr Luke. He did this back in 2015 and emailed someone then found out when to and how to. And you only need to do 15 to 20 sec at a time and it worked. But he had a different stick had different notches. I should go get the link. But he used soap electric and these sticks but he called it something else starts with a g man I hate forgetting I'll go get a link.

      Minktrappingpaddy the worms in the bucket were cold having been refrigerated. The soil seemed unevenly dry, and it was pretty much doomed from the start. • @cagedraptor
      @cagedraptor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      this was a spur of the moment thing that I thought I'd give a try. It was fun and the comments have been informative but I think I'll stick to either a shovel or going out in a good rain. Two ways I'm sure to get worms or even more sure just take a short trip to a bait store before hand. The Worm Stick was fun and I have learned a lot from the comments but it is truly nothing I'd rely on to get worms. Much easier to dig them up than try this stick vibration technique.

  • @davemeduna700
    @davemeduna700 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the spots are too wet. Worms don't like water. Go to drier ground.

    • @cagedraptor
      @cagedraptor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      very true but it had been raining so everywhere was wet. I was hoping that being wet any in the area would be close to the surface. it was fun to play with but going out during a rain storm or digging with a shovel is more effective for me so I may get it out and play with it again but I'll stick to the two ways that work best, besides going to a bait store of course.

  • @Nifmakr

      it is old, and worm catching, at least this way... nothing since then. Only did this video just to give it a go. I stick to my most favorite way. Wait for it to be raining at night and go out and get them. haven't learned a thing about that method since. It was fun, had a great time out that day and enjoy reading the comments this video has given me. To my way of thinking this video worked out great for me.

      thanks much. I should get that stick out again an give it another go. I found it, most randomly, a few days ago while looking for something else. Something I thought would be fun to try and play with. gotten a lot of good advice on how to make this work or just work better.

  • @SpiritBear12
    @SpiritBear12 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your carved stick is way too short, you only have 4 cuts in it, it should be about triple that. You also stuck it in water logged dense packed soil. Worms don't like to live in dense packed soil that's water logged. You have to rub the stick harder. That light rattling you're doing doesn't help.
    Go in the woods where the soil is rich, looser and damp, not sopping wet. Clear away a good circle of leaves with a rake, put a longer rattle stick in the middle of the cleared circle, hold on to it and rub the stick for at least 15 seconds with good pressure. Drive those vibrations into the ground. The worms get scared and try to escape what they think is a disaster by coming up to the surface. Also, it's best to do it early in the morning before the dew burns off for the day.

    • @cagedraptor
      @cagedraptor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks much. this was my first and most likely only attempt at this. did it as on a whim and thought it would be fun to give a go. I think I'll stick to either picking them up on raining nights or digging a bit with a small shovel. much more simple and less complicated. It was fun to try but I think I'll stick to other means for worms.

    why post a how to video that doesn't work?

    • @cagedraptor
      @cagedraptor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good question and the answer may be too long for this comment box. First off it was fun and I had a fun time doing it so I wanted to share it. more important I have learned a long time ago that the best way to learn from something is from it not working or going quite right. I don' t like to use the word fail because it may not have worked but it sure wasn't a failure. some of my most important experiences have has come from "fails" or losses or however you want to define them. I have been sent many comments about this worm stick some with good intent and others with ill but with it all I am sure that others along with myself have learned a bit from this stick not working for me, this time. I am not skilled with this technique and I'm sure I have made some or many errors with it the beauty is that we all can learn, not just me, from this video. We now know at least one way to not do it. So that is why I posted. First it was just plain fun and second learning from something doesn't always means it worked to learn from it. Thanks much for your wonderful question and I hope this explains why I posted it.

    a video. What a waste of time for all who watched this video. Vibrations to
    call worms to the top really does work. I have seen it work on other videos.
    So why did you make the video anyway??

      I will be glad to answer all your questions. the point : just to give it a try. pretest : no, the hole point was to experience it for the first time, and to share that experience. I can see how you feel it was a waste of time, no argument there. For me it wasn't a waste of time I learned a lot from that and from the comments. I, as well have been told it works well. Why ? well I was curious to see if I could do it as well and just for fun.

      The only time you ever truly fail at anything is when you give up. So nope don't think I will.

      very unskilled, but if I ever need I have a bit of experience. But in truth I'd just dig, much easier.

    If I watched it to the end that would be 20 minutes of my life well waisted. Crap.

      I try to be nice and polite to everyone who leaves their opinions on my videos. So I'll stop right here. Have a nice day.
