Hunas weakend the gupta empire but failed to conquer entire india. Their reign were mostly consolidated on north and northwest. With in a few decades there indivduality also faded and assimilated to india. Gupta dynasty survived in a weakend state till 7 century until Harsha created his Empire. After Harsha India didn't have any pan India empires. Many prominent dynasties tried but never able to create any everlasting pan india even pan north indian empires. Then came the Arabs and finally Turks and started the Islamic rules in india.

Although Emperor Skandhagupta was known as Huna nashaka (the slayer of the hunas) Mihirkula the fiercest Huna invader (even more powerful than Attila) was defeated by King Yashodharma of Malwa. It was the fiercest battle between India Vs Huna invaders. A historical based magnum opus novella named "Kaler Mandira" was written by the eminent Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandopadhyay based on the Huna invasion of India during the reign of the Emperor Skandhagupta in Bengali language.

In reality the huns who came to India (kushans) were fleeing their homeland in central Asia after being defeated and ejected by the xiongnu who were another Hunnic tribe.
Indian sources have to exaggerate their strength to make the defeat more palatable but they were actually the weaker Hunnic tribe.

The later Guptas defeated the Huns. The Gupta Empire peaked under Vikramaditya according to the Hindu calendar which was 57 BC. Indian influence extended to Arabia. Indian scholars (Kale) have placed the poet Kalidas in this period, where he was one of the navratnas of Vikramaditya. However Western and Westernised historians place Vikramaditya some centuries later than the well-known Vikram Samvat! You are correct, India was the greatest power in the world some 2000 years ago. According to certain sources, Jesus of Nazareth came to India, learnt the local philosophies and applied them to his land, with long-term consequences. He died in India, and his grave is in Kashmir where he lived long, very highly honoured. That India was NOT at its peak 2000 years ago, is one of the greatest hoaxes in History.

@@RnR1001 And by summarising all your comments I can smell your jealousy and envy.
And yes we are just not only 'intrested' but we can proudly claim that ancient Indian Empires were superior and that's a historical fact. It just need some brain to read the history and a open mind to accept it.
And your question was how do we know what we claimed and how do we know what was the world economy, right?
Well if you were really interested you could have just done a Wikipedia search before commenting and you would have found out, at the end of that Wikipedia there are dozens of contemporary sources given, you could have found out from there. But why would you do that, right?
*One of the best contemporary source is The World Economy: Historical Statistics
Book by Angus Maddison, published in 2004*
According to that the Indian Economy Contributed around 32-35 % of World economy during Gupta Empire, and till 1000 AD India's share was around 30%. From 1000 to 1600 India and China Contributed more than 50.5% of the world GDP, and India's share was around 22.5% ( Keep in mind this was the time when foreign Islamic invaders were continuously attacking India one after the other and sucking India like leeches)
So do some work instead of just blabbering.

Huns are the only community to invade China, India, Persia, Eastern and Western Roman Empire. But inspite of such devastating military campaigns, the Huns were unable to end any of those empires. The Chinese, Indians, Persians and the Byzantines were able to hold them off and expel them, but the Western Romans somehow survived them only to be ended by Goths a decade or two later. Interestingly Goths were one of the first Germanic communities who came in contact and fled from the Huns, which barreled them into pillaging the Roman Empire.

    • @jitsur5012
      @jitsur5012 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

You could argue the Huns brought down the western roman empire or at least played a big part. They came from the east and forcefully displaced all the other germanic tribes like the goths etc. The goths were forced to move westward into Roman territory which is where their conflict with Rome arose. Eventually it got so bad with Rome that the German tribes went rogue against rome. But none of that happens if the Huns don't push the Goths towards Western Europe.

Hephthalites and Guptas were not enemies people. In fact, the heaththalites were part of the Gupta empire. After defeating sassanids, kushans and Mongolian huns(xiongnu) Gupta kings established a client state in Bactria, which later came to be known as white huns. And all the war between hephthalites & the Gupta empire were actually a part of a civil war which took place between the Gupta princes after the demise of kumargupt.

After gupta age india disintigrated to fuedel dark ages just like everywhere else. But never recovered of the dark ages since the country never could be centralized or urbanized. Rural dis intigration is a death sentence for a civilization.

I am sure the Gupta empire was an Indo-european empire.
Few undeniable characteristics of Indo-european empires as in gupta empire:
    1. Strong cavalry - a characteristic shared by almost all central asian and indo-european kingdoms from europe to asia.
    2. Cultural mark - From The Guptas to the Persians to somewhat the Mughals to the British , the cultural mark has been a repeating phenomenon of Indo-european presence.
    ******
Besides that Magadha had always been a strong Mahajanpada - agrarian Indo-european settlements.
Infact indo-european settlements should desist from creating large empires, the clue to its destruction lies inside that idea. They had always been mobile agrarian people used to small settlements, the moment they go for grandeur they start sowing the seeds of destruction from within until they are physically destroyed by new indo-european entrants.
They usually face biggest threat from within themselves in form of excesses of wealth , excesses of power, oozing self pride, excesses of cultural activities, chauvinistic attitude of population , unnecessary activities galore and sooner or later receives the threat from ,whom? The asian people - in case of Guptas it was the Huns,in case of Persians it was the Mongols, in case of Mughals which was more of an Asian empire than an indo-european one it was the british, in case of The British it was actually the Asian Russians in form of the Bolsheviks but remember in each of these cases cultural and other excesses were very prominent prior to those destructions - In case of the Gupta empire - I would bet there were if closely scrutinised - infact as I had mentioned the fact that it had expanded into a very large territory is itself signs of that potential destruction and then you mention there was internal discontent later on which is very natural outcome of excesses in society.
In case of Persians we are all aware of their excesses too.
In case of Mughals - same thing.
In case of British - same again.
And the British extension in America has already gone past that into the realm of decay.
