      @@enflamedpapaya8592I’d disagree with that because most s550’s on TH-cam are literally 2015-2017’s. When I try to look up builds or cosmetic mods for my 2020 I can’t find anything because every s550 video is about a 2015-2017. I drive a 2018 GT Premium with Performance Package 1, Magna ride, 6 speed, and active valve exhaust. Stone cold love the car. I have driven a Mustang with the Tremac 6 speed, and wish I had been able to get that trans with my car. However, I have no real complaints about Getrag in my car. I like the front end on the S650 much better than my S550. I HATE the iPad dash on the S650! I have taken several great 2,000 to 3,000 mile road trips in my S550. For me me, a near perfect 2 person road trip car. I’ll probably get a S650 in a couple of years, but I’m in no hurry. Every time I drive my S550 I still get a big smile - This is the car I wanted when I was 16, I’m now in my 70’s, and I couldn’t be happier - Happy motoring 🤠🇺🇸

    I have a 16 with Performance pack, and I absolutely love it. One notable thing is that the manual 15-17 have the shortest gear ratios among the modern Mustangs. The 18+ and Tremecs have longer gears. 1:1 is 5th on the 11-17 while it's 4th on the 18+. It may not be as good as a Tremec, but with the 3.73 diff on the Performance pack, and you got pretty short ratios that are fun in town.

    Very honest assessment. I have a Heavily modified 2020 10R80 GT. Love it but because it’s heavy the handling around canyons is still not crisp enough despite all the suspension upgrades I’ve done. This new S650 in my opinion should have been at least 100 pound lighter in the nose and awd with a traction control switch to get you rwd for any spin action.

    My 2nd car was a 93’ FOX GT and ever since then I was hooked. Even way back then, the FIVE OH with Flomaster exhaust had such a distinct sound. 30 years later the Mustang is still class leading when it comes to engine noise and exhaust. Them FORD engineers have PHD’s in acoustics and understand how the sound of a performance car translates directly to the emotion we get when on throttle. It’s a large % of the experience which is why the Five OH will always have a fighting chance. And that Coyote engine is a technical marvel with its Quad Cam design. Compared to its contemporaries in the Camaro and Dodge brothers, it’s league more sophisticated than the push rods. The Coyote trades revs for torque and to be honest, on the track it has served the Mustang well when run directly against the SS 1LE. I’ve had a 16’ SS 1LE and a C6Z with that LS7. I mention this to show I am a fan of American performance cars for their V8s. I’ve also had a few Mustangs. Stoplight to stoplight give me the Camaro and it’s torque. But on a track with curves and straights, and the Camaro will see those tri bar LEDs more often than not with all things being equal. Stock for stock. Same driver. The Camaro may have more feel but we cannot let that detract from the fact the Mustang, post 2018 with the Gen 3 Coyote, took the top stop on the podium as the fastest American Pony car on track. And I’m not even talking the GT350 or R variants. I’m talking like for like. 5.0 vs SS 1LE. Throttle House tested the MACH 1, SS 1LE and the Dark Horse. The DH smashed the other two. It hung a time up near the monstrous M5 COmp. The MACH 1 beat the SS by a considerable margin as well. These times were posted by Thomas, the creator of the channel and a race car instructor. Who has tested hundreds of cars on a track he knows very well. Thomas is a self admitted Bow tie boot kicker and you could see him struggle when having to report the results. Randy Pobst, HALL OF FAME race car driver ran a MACH against the SS 1LE and the MACH again posted the faster time. Car and Driver does it’s annual Lightning Lap and the fastest car they’ve EVER tested under $75k was the MACH 1. 3.5 seconds faster than the SS 1LE. It crushed it. Thr GT350R finished .4 behind the Mach 1 and the 2018 GT PP2 beat the SS by 2 full seconds. So…. The Camaro may have more feel but on a track. The Mustang is the faster and better performing car

    • @northcamarolina7453
      @northcamarolina7453 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think your summary of the track performance of the PP2 and Mach1 vs the SS 1LE is inaccurate. In Randy Pobst test of the Mach 1 and SS 1LE, he was using a brand new Mach 1, but the SS 1LE was 5 years old and (per Randy on the video) something was wrong with the brakes (bad brake fluid or pads, but either way there was fade - OEM 1LE brakes don't fade - I have 3 seasons of track experience to confirm that). At any rate, the cars two cars put up very similar times, with Ford relying to wider, stickier tires (305F 315R, Cup 2s) than the 1LE to make that possible. As to the same indirect comparison at Lightning lap, you are trying to compare times that were set 5 years apart from one another (different drivers, different ambient conditions, likely even different surface grip. You simply can't compare them. For the PP2 comparison, I'm not aware of a test where the PP2 was even able to tie the SS 1LE for a lap time. And even if it was able, it lacks the coolers to enable you to do more than a few laps before the components get too hot and go into limp mode. Thus not sure why you bothered to put the PP2 into this comparo argument.
      I will concede the S550 Mustang is a bit faster on the 1/2 mile VIR back straight, owing to the 30 extra horsepower (and probably more aerodynamic front nose).

My othwr reason for not getting the S650 is those taillights are hideous as well.

    Oh we weighed the same configuration of a 2023 GT to the same configuration in the S650 and the weight was within 10 pounds of each other. It is not difficult to reduce the weight either on the Mustang to get it closer to 3500 pounds. So much negativity and so many bullshit comments made about the S650. Go to a cars and coffee meet and the new car outshines the older cars tremendously!!! On the track with the Dark Horse is also significantly better than the Mach I !!! The Mach I is great, but the Dark Horse is better. The S650 GT is better than the S550 in every way. If you don’t have hours in the new car then you just don’t know. Go test drive the car. You got a point, but don't you think it's really both? He's tested the Mach 1 back to back with a 1LE. Stiffer suspension (springs, shocks, sways) help hide weight, but a nearly 4000lb Dark Horse will never feel like a 3000lb Foxbody w/ a Maximum Motorsports package. Weight & wheelbase can't be completely engineered away, even with rear-steer on higher-end cars. He tests a lot of light cars, on tight roads, so weight will always show some symptoms, & the stiffest setting is rarely the best on those roads. On a longer smoother track, sure.

      Spring rates will only take you so far. At some point the laws of physics do take over - so yeah, weight matters. The old saying goes, "add power to a car and you'll make it faster in a straight line. Subtract weight and you make it faster everywhere." At the end of the day, weight matters a lot more than the marketing people want you to believe that it does.
