    The treatment of Leah was terrible. I don’t like how she was portrayed as the bitter ex girlfriend that needed to get over it. Her boyfriend left her FOR HER COUSIN! And she was stuck in a pack with him where literally everyone knew her thoughts. And if course the pack would side with the Alpha because he was the leader and she was the only girl. Jacob literally through a fit for two movies over Bella flirting with him and then got back to her boyfriend but Leah was just supposed to be okay with watching her cousin with her ex and it’s not like they were toning it down out of respect for her. That’s my issue if they really felt bad about it they try to be respectful instead of treating Leah like a pest that won’t go away like she wanted to be tied to Sam. That was the only pack at the time.

      I always thought the werewolf pack was super misogynistic. And Meyers could have had Leah imprint on someone or explained why she’s the only female werewolf. It really came off like “she probably can’t have kids so she’s not a ‘real’ woman.”

    • @ac.car88
      @ac.car88 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Exactly what bothered me is everyone in the pack was mad at her for feeling hurt and they hated knowing her thoughts and feelings but they never once took in consideration that she always hears Sams thoughts about Emily and how she can literally feel their connection to eachother. But they blame her for her emotions but don't have a problem with the fact that his emotions are what is triggering hers.
      Then Jacob gets mad at her for complaining about his feelings for bella and his heartbreak and he doesn't once see that its because shes just matching the same energy hes giving her by complaining about her feeling her heartbreak.

      It still sickens me Jacob literally imprinted on a child while people can say it doesn’t mean they’ll be in a relationship the movie literally confirms they will be once Ratatouille turns 18.
      It is literally grooming Ratatouille will have no chance at living her life or dating other people without Jacob obsessively sniffing around like a puppy 24/7.

    4:33 The fandom didn't misconstrue anything about Sam/Emily because I think the way its written naturally lends itself to those conclusions. Whether Meyer admits it or not, that fact that Sam hurts Emily in a fit of emotion without meaning to is an allegory for domestic violence. Plenty of people who do not have a history of hurting others will have a moment of weakness, especially in a romantic/unrequited love context, and lash out without directly meaning to cause harm: throwing things for example. That's literally how these things begin. It only takes one accidental accuracy or even shards from something that broke to injure the victim. That's pretty much what happened between Emily and Sam. The imprinting, the obsession, further compounds the allegory. Just because Sam didn't intentionally do it doesn't mean its not DV. So many abusers simply "can't control themselves". Meyer wrote something she thought was romantic but it's kind of a DV horror story.

    • @PeanutkingSunman
      @PeanutkingSunman 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      The problem is the racism behind this and how people use allegory to accuse sam of being an abuser. People accuse these characters of literal wrong doing using allegory which is wrong since allegory is up to interpretation and is pseudo headcanon.

    Oh man, imprinting is messed up! Particularly since the imprintee has most of the control in the imprint relationship. Leah got the raw end of the deal. Suggesting that Leah is strange as the only female shifter, and she can never imprint. Sam and Emily were victims, but Leah even more so

    The story could’ve been done differently if it was a “best friend “ type of imprint as well, not just romantic. Like, Leah and Sam could’ve teamed up to protect Emily as a couple, not having broken up. It would’ve made an interesting twist if the ex bf kept coming back to hurt Emily, speaking on DV.

      Showing the bond can turn into a non romantic thing def could have solved so many things. For example quill and claire could have had a parent/child bond, he could have been like a godfather/mentor figure in her life only. Instead of the creepy implication that they would eventually get toegther when she grew up. Same for jacob and chuckesme.

    I am unsatisfied by the ending of the saga. Jacob x Renesme disgusts me and I sort of lost respect for the wolves after the imprinting on little girls entered the picture. It’s almost like Jacob was possessed and it’s irreversible. We know from his POV he doesn’t approve at all of Renesme and if he hadn’t imprinted things might have gone very differently. It’s sad to know that Jacob is no longer Jacob

    In this story I feel that the wolves were the ones who could've gotten a lot more depth into them, and a lot of more of a loving fanbase if only Smeyer would've taken the time to dive into the indigenous culture of the Quileute and a time to actually think about each one of their personalities... Especially Leah, who's portrayed as a bitter person who happens to be a girl wolf, and that's it. NO! I feel that there should've been more to her, to all of the wolves.

  • @kittyunderwood8918
    @kittyunderwood8918 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +43

    I don't hate any of these characters, I just hate how they are written. Obviously I blame Smeyer more than the actual characters, because she chose to wrote them this way.
    The thing that gets me about imprinting is how it's supposed to be the imprintee's choice...except even as you said in this video, Emily tells Sam to leave her alone multiple times and he doesn't. I respect him not going back to Leah when she says to because it'd be unfair to Leah, but it still seems like both his and Emily's autonomy is taken, because he can't do anything but think about her and want to be with her, and even tho she turns him down he can't stay away, and she is ultimately drawn to him too.
    I think this still makes the characters problematic in a way. I think it turns Sam and Jacob, and Quil, and other wolves, into creeps. But, because it's happening basically against their will, it also makes the author way more problematic, and because it's only happening to this specific race of people, it proves her racism.

    Not only is it bad to leave your girlfriend for her cousin. But I’m just amazed that werewolves don’t imprint on eachother. Plus who’s to say imprinting has to be romantic.
    As creative this story maybe, Stephenie is kinda influencing bad relationships, especially when teens read and watch these stories. But then again with the woke society lately Romance is dead. But still love the creative process but don’t react these relationships.

      @@PeanutkingSunmanBut it's true. You don't see any romantic relationships in movies anymore, especially between man and woman. Those lines had shifted towards platonic friendships at best, and even those are a big stretch given how modern protagonists are usually brooding lone wolves, and have little to none acquittances that they can form bonds with. Heck, even the giants in the romance stories such as Disney had stepped away from traditional "fairytale" romance, and instead moved to familiar love between siblings (aka your Anna and Elsa from Frozen), and "strong independent female protagonists" that need no man.... and any love interests that they can form a romantic bond with.

And romance has been a staple of lots of show and movies. Just because disney has got stepped away from fairytale romance to explore other areas does not mean romance is dead. Romance not being in our face and shoved down our throat doesn't mean it dead. The film industry especially the female section exploring new things and there is nothing wrong with that. Romance isn't the end all be all it will always be there because we are humans. With they way you people are using the word woke i sense you are pushing a conservatives political agenda .

    • @viktoria_pikovsky
      @viktoria_pikovsky 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PeanutkingSunman Dude, you seem to have a very warp understanding of what people mean when they say that romance is dead.
      For once, the romance *genre* may not be dead, and it may still have works made in it. but it is NOT what people refer to when talking about romance in Hollywood movies. We are talking about movies outside the romance & romcom genre, that are being in the mainstream attention. Think of your typical action movie, superhero flicks, historical dramas, and even the animated family movies. All those movies had major romantic subplots & many iconic power couples. yet those subplots are notably absent for a huge number of those movies, giving place to platonic friendships at best, and semi-tolerable acquaintances relationships at their worst. More so with the rise of "strong independent whamen" protagonists who operate as lone wolves and don't have even a single distant friend to fall back on.
      Secondly, Disney has build it's entire animation movie brand on fairytales with iconic romantic stories. Their animated movies (and many of the live action ones too, for that matter) are known for 2 major things- their music and romance. so seeing modern Disney movies step away from romance, up to the point of openly admitting they won't include it in future movies is alarming in all the wrong ways. If there is on movie studio that pioneered romance outside the direct romance genre, it's Disney. And them being the first to turn their back to it ain't exactly a good sign.
      Third, and very important, "wokeness" isn't a strictly political term. It's a term that referred to a modern liberal mindset that puts "inclusivity, diversity & rights for minorities" above all other things. and as it relates to romance in movies, it pushes the idea that woman don't need any and all love interests/ romantic partnerships to become stronger & accepted in society, by proxy telling people that romance by itself isn't desirable & nobody should strive to achieve it. THAT is what causes all none- romance movies to drop all romantic subplots from their stories, starting the domino effect to today's lack of romance in major Hollywood productions.
      I can even go further and say that most modern audience don't even like romance in the first place, and most romantic stories are reserved to the declining niche that still seeks it. And although you can still find successful romance movies in the last few years, none of them are mainstream productions & have a mass appeal like the romance movies of yesteryear.

    • @PeanutkingSunman
      @PeanutkingSunman 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @viktoria_pikovsky you're entire argument is flawed because it's based around the idea that romance should be a special genre that should be forced into everything. Imagine if someone complained about the fact that most movies don't have horror or much comedy in them. The easy answer that you are refusing to accept is that romance simply isn't this special thing that needs to be forced into everything. There is a specific genre for romance, and those who enjoy it can watch that genre. Just like how it's is with all genres. You are right in saying romance has decreased in films but to act as if it's almost dead or it's a bad thing it's decreased is highly inaccurate. The whole independence women characters not having freinds to fall back on is also false since many of those movie encourage the importance of freindship
      Secondly liberal ideology is correct is in saying that women's entire existence should not be centered around romance. Saying that women led movies and genres don't always need love intrests is not the same thing as saying that romance is not desirable in movies that is simply you're own feelings getting in the way and your mind jumping to conclusion.
      Disney having less fairytail romance movies is not alarming because again romance genre still exits and romance kids movies will always exist. Also, Disney is still putting out romantic movies. Even in the infamous independent girl movie of Frozen still has romance between princess Anna and Kristoff.
      The problem with this whole thing is the lie that you are telling that wokeness is anti romance when that is simply not the case wokenes is simply saying that women should have more paths in live that just romance and that romance does not need to be put in this special pedestal. I encourage you to release yourself from this mindset or romance centeredness.
      It's very clear that you and i simply have extremely different political and moral beliefs and that we will never agree on anything. This conversation is pointless. We are too far apart politically

All this to say I hated Leah's story in the books and felt bad for her, but after meeting my own husband the story just makes my head and heart hurt. You don't just decide to marry someone on a whim. Both Sam and Emily come to terms with it, but they have a support system that Leah lacks. It's tragic and horrible.
