Racist White Shoppers

  • "In this WALB newsfilm clip probably from 1964, WALB reporter Jim Knight questions white residents from Albany, Georgia, near a grocery store and later in front of Midtown Drugs about their reaction to a proposed civil rights bill. The clip begins with Mrs. J. D. Miles, who expresses her disbelief at the bill and declares to stand up for her rights; she feels that African Americans already possess the same freedoms to work and build their neighborhoods as white people. Next, Knight stops two women and a girl; one of the women expresses her concerns about possible violence and her preference that demonstrations remain peaceful. Another unidentified woman interviewed by Knight hopes there will not be any "trouble," and adds, "of course, being a Southerner, I'm not for it at all." A woman who does not have time to be interviewed interjects that she thinks African Americans already have equal rights. A man and a woman walking together decline to comment when they are stopped, as does an older gentleman, who says "What I have to say wouldn't be fit to go on the air." Another man and woman enter the store with a boy and a girl; they feel the bill should be voted upon as part of a national election, rather than forcing an "unwanted" decision upon the nation to accept. Finally, the last woman interviewed attests that she, too, is against the proposed legislation, and admits her concern about living in a neighborhood with African Americans".

What you are using here is a logical fallacy called false equivalency. You can equate the dumb people of society as dumb but what you can't do is equate the past problems to the present. While, no they aren't disconnected they are different. What you have today in America is a class issue not a targeted race issue. Because everyone can and a lot of people have been discriminated against for multiple reasons it varies. Which is why you are supposed to take legal action in the case you feel as if you have been discriminated against and been treated unequitably

When I saw the sign I confronted her and told her to leave the kids alone. They fish there at night and don’t bother anyone. She called me a wetback, called me illegal, told me and my Haitian neighbor that we need to go back to our country the banana boat etc etc. When the cops came I started speaking to them in Spanish and the lady went bananas. I stand behind saying this video was very eye opening because we deal with many of the same issues in American society today that we did in these times. I think next time you should try to engage in conversation with somebody before calling them dumb in a TH-cam comment! The rhetoric is exactly the same, and just as empty as it is today. Conservatives today say that the past was racist, but today is totally fine, so stop asking for more privileges. Conservatives of the past said the same thing, and you can repeat that ad nauseum.
"They have the same rights." Uh, yea they HAVE them, but they aren't enforced. How many whites lost their lives in lynchings for trivial matters without a trial? They could "justify" it all day, though. A black man looking at a white woman was strictly equivalent to murder in their eyes.
Same shit different day, and conservatives wonder why people "criticize" America. They think Kaepernick kneeling is "complaining" because they think these issues don't exist simply because they've never experienced it.
