One of the best Cotton Bowl games ever! Not a Longhorn fan, but man they were very good in 81! Great year of college football all around! Clemson, Pitt, Nebraska, Texas and SMU (I know, SMU was on probation) were all championship quality.
Actually, that came in the second game of 1981, when Georgia Tech went to Birmingham and shocked the Tide 24-21. Later that season, Southern Miss visited Legion Field and played Alabama to a 13-13 tie. The Yellow Jackets proceeded to lose their next 10 games, giving coach Bill Curry a 2-19-1 record over his first two seasons at his alma mater. FYI, the tie was a 3-3 rock fight vs. then-No. 1 Notre Dame in 1980, one week before the Irish defeated the Tide 7-0 at Legion Field.
Joe you rock!!!! Your channel is awesome! Great memories

A great end to a disappointing season (by Texas standards) for the Longhorns.
The official end to Bama's 70's dynasty.

Little did anyone realize it at the time, but Bear Bryant had less than 400 days of his remarkable life remaining.
