That is a great question! There are 2 types of teeth. you can either run hardened steel knives or carbide teeth. We run carbides due to out regen having alot of rocky soil. The carbide teeth are alot more forgiving when it come to hitting hard objects. We usually get between 300-500hrs out of a set. I will try to do a walk around of my machine in upcoming videos and explain better. hopefully this helps!

Will these mulch surface roots?
We run carbide teeth so we can mulch/till a couple inches below the surface. For large roots a root rake would work best.
