    I like how she doesn't have one cookie cutter formula, but encourages artists to act and engage in ways that are authentic to them as individuals.

    These are the best responses I’ve heard from a composer agency to date! Thanks for the information and detailed answers.

    ..Also sending your music to radio gets you heard too..BBC introducing will play your music if they like it. Sometimes your music will get used for their podcasts or other programmes and helps to build your profile when presenting to others.

      but what if you did not manage to make contacts early on .... is it then a lost game? ;(
      I work now in a different area but would love to switch to music making full time. But no one around me is of value when it comes to a music connection in this case.

    This was great, as usual! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this and for sharing. A few questions, tho...I'll focus on the fundamental one. We're of the impression, and the way that composer education is pitched also indicates, that there's a distinction between being able to write music and being able to write music for film/video/media. The latter requiring, I think it's fair to say, some additional and specific skills that aren't required for 'simply' writing music for your bandcamp, spotify etc. I assume that this is the case, otherwise it kinda negates a hell of a lot of course material in esteemed educational facilities around the world, and a lot of online instructional information (including from Spitfire!), in one fell swoop. So, assuming this is the case, what's the argument for showcasing just audio, and not audio-to-video? This seems a slight contradiction...in other words, how does the director know you can compose to video if you don't show that? Clearly I have some self-interest to declare here because the Cue Tube is all about giving composers video material for practice and building experience/portfolio/network in this sphere :)

    Networking, one of my bugbears, I hate those things. I'm okay with it online but not in person. In previous careers I had to do it and it makes you feel contaminated, wanting to shower away the effects of some people.

    • @robguitarwizard
      @robguitarwizard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! Actually the first 'electronic' music - serious electronic music created by Stockhausen, Tristram Carey, etc. was described as 'classical' electronic music.

  • @robguitarwizard

    Interesting. I have also found that the industry has a lot of people who are jealously holding on to their own piece of it, rather than use their opportunities and connections to help other people trying to get a break.

    How to get work as a composer. By being a nuisance, or it's who you know, not what you know. But you need to know what you're doing before you can work with the one's you know.
