What If Styxosaurus Was Alive?

  • You pop out of the ocean and hear the faint yells of the lifeguard. The whole beach panics. Your turn around. Something lurks in the water. Before you can say "Loch Ness monster," a tall shadow emerges, lunging with its sharp teeth headed your way. If the Styxosaurus were around today, where would it live? What would your potential demise have to do with being crushed by stones? And why could it be more afraid of you than you'd be of it?

    As intimidating as most animals of the past like Dinosaurs, Megalodons, etc. are to us in view, humans would likely adapt and do well against all of them (even ancient humans). We have so many built in advantages with our intellect that none of these creatures would truly pose a threat other than in specific situations where we are trapped in nature. Also bigger isn't always better, this is why some of the animals today are far more successful and in some ways, more dangerous to humans. Insects are one of the most prevalent animals in the world today.

    • @ODDMALTV

      If that animal was alive today you would have a different view, there is a reason those prehistoric animals did not live with humans

      These things are scary looking , but they ate small fish … Mosasaurs … now we’re talking scary … and to your comment about us being able to adapt if dinosaurs were around … NOPE .
      If Dino’s never went extinct… we would have never evolved past nocturnal rodents . Velociraptors held our niche , they were smart , they believe had hierarchy like wolves or primates , could communicate , efficient at hunting everything … and faster than a horse or similar speed … and we’re talking velociraptors… now we get into t-Rex / Spinosaurus … or even better , let’s look at plant eaters … triceratops/ long necks the size of buildings / ankylosaurus equivalent of todays grazers (cows) … had armour plates everywhere and a gigantic boulder as the tip of their tale … or even better … small Dino’s that steal eggs or small helpless animals … kinda like what a baby human would be …. Forget it …. No damn way in hell humans would fare good in any scenario ever with Dino’s in the picture …. Like ever … even if we have good brains … to them would just mean more protein loll

      @mohammedahmmed9827 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@shivpatel5413 isn’t it obvious? The Leviathan whale has a much more robust, stronger, bigger, and intimidating body than the Styxosaurus, not to mention the fact that the Leviathan has much more taller and sharper teeth that could bloodily injure the Styxosaurus’ soft body very badly, in addition to that, the Leviathan whale is actually fast despite how big it is, even faster than the Megalodon shark. So I think that even if the Styxosaurus saw the Leviathan whale and they didn’t fight, the Styxosaurus would be intimidated at the Leviathan’s huge body, and even if the Styxosaurus managed to escape with bites on it due to the Leviathan biting it, it would still die from blood loss considering how strong and big the Leviathan’s teeth are. Even the Leviathan’s rival and enemy, the Megalodon, would also absolutely eat and destroy the Styxosaurus.

    Thank you for videos like this, What If 😃😃 I like Styxsosaurus a bunch, to me they probably were somewhat the bridge between dolphins and turtles. If they were around today, I think that they probably would have trouble to adapt to our oceans - but they probably would live more comfortably alongside humans, either being fully domesticated for food, as mounts (like horses, but in the water) or being trained for aquariums and water parks that were sufficiently large to support a small family/pod. Imagine the possibility of training them, getting them to recognize their human caretakers, and having a chance to pet them! 😃

    Just seems so weird to me that a underwater creature would need such a long neck, like land animals use it to reach things they can’t but u don’t have that problem under the ocean, u just swim up or down, and I doubt it was flexible enough to whip it through tight rocks and cracks . Maybe whoever discovered it pulled a fast one lol

    • @aanchal4446
      @aanchal4446 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your comment is leaning towards lamarckism. Which is not always the case in nature, maybe these animals evolved in water randomly even when their long neck was of no use to them, or maybe their long neck actually helped them in resisting the drag of water. I don't know, these animals have remained a mystery for so long. If you do some research about them, pls do reply here.

    Styxosaurus was a type of plesiosaur, which was a marine reptile that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 80-70 million years ago. It's currently extinct.
    If Styxosaurus were still alive today, it would likely be found in a marine environment and would have to compete with modern marine animals for food and habitat. It would be interesting to see how it would adapt to the current marine ecosystem, and how it would interact with present-day marine animals.
    It's important to note that the earth and its climate are vastly different today than it was during the Cretaceous period, and it is unlikely that the Styxosaurus would be able to survive in the present-day environment.

    Did some googling turns out those stones are called gastroliths and they aid in digestion in animals which lack grinding teeth.

      You sure you’d still like our oceans to be filled with always hungry / hissing underwater giant carnivorous reptiles ?

    3:25 Chickens do the same. Although they are herbivores, as opposed to the Styxosaurus portrayed here, they swallow small pebbles to aid them in digestion. Actually, it’s a quite funny, albeit puzzling thing to watch as a child.😊

    It was 12 meters longer not 10 meters plus the half of his length was his neck that is just amazingly impressive. He lived at the end of Cretaceous, so that’s a late Cretaceous species that lived between 86 millions and 72 millions of year BC. I wish I was living among all of those animals without them seeing me so I could just be safe while looking at their behaviors and how they lived etc… 🙏🏻🤩🦕

    5 likes& THATS IT! WOWO what a intriguing video this was, LEARNING THAT PREHISTORIC SHARKS/AMPHIBIANS LIVED IN OCEANIC COASTS OF an average HOT temperature of around 99 degrees F(33-36C) Therefore if they tried to thrive in our time, they would simple die to the lack of adapting changes in DECLINING CLIMATES! Idk this behemoth-orcasized reptile-named Styxosaurus even existed- with the Temper no greater than GW'S", apparently it got hunted down totally by the help of modern-day sharks that were hungry in their era! LGA, also Well, I always learn smth new anyways, too0! Plus, this long-necked amphibian was prone to disease-infested waters and nothing else, too, unfortunately! Also, they have a potential demise have to do with being crushed by stones!
