  • Joan Baez first became known to the wider public as a distinctive folk singer after performing at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival. After releasing her debut album in 1960, she became known for topical songs promoting social justice, civil rights and pacifism. Baez also played a critical role in popularizing Bob Dylan, with whom she dated and performed regularly in the mid-1960s. Baez's most popular songs over the years have included "We Shall Overcome," "It's All Over Now Baby Blue," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Diamonds and Rust." With an enduring career, she has continued to record and perform into the 2000s.

There is nothing sad about Joan Baez life or her impact on music. She’s an excellent spokesperson, still relevant & active. 💕

THANK YOU MIKE JOSEPH!!! FAMOUS BIOGRAPHIES????? STINKING MANIPULATIVE HACKS!!!! BTW. I have two brothers...Michael and Joseph. How 'bout that??!!! Thank you again. Joan Baez is the FIRST person I sang with (to a record of my sister's) when I was THREE! I've loved her since and will forever!

Joan is alive and well : however, she has lost that very gifted operatic voice with age but still sings with a voice that belies her age - i am 78 and i too had a strong and gifted voice but had 4 strokes and now i paint works of art; whatever works, and i am grateful i listened and was inspired by Joan in more was than i can tell you - the 60s and early 70s was a time of Joan Baez, Joni Mitchel, and many others but Joan stood out to me vocally [ if you've never heard of her opera piece Bachianas Brasileiras No 5 Aria it is haunting and unlike many opera singers who are more technical she sings the Aria with a depth unheard of even today ! ]

What I find truly amazing jconearth, is that Joan absolutely figured out how to use the voice she still had to continue to captivate audiences and get her message out. Knowing her somewhat in her halcyon years I would absolutely NOT have though she'd be able to face mega audiences without that breathtaking instrument at her disposal. Turns out she wasn't primarily IN a Spot light to blow us all away with her virtuosity (though she absolutely did). She had, always has had, things she wanted to communicate to her fellow humans. THAT desire to communicate was ALWAYS her core motivation.
And we have those Recordings. I think they'll find new audiences for decades to come.

I am 83 and I still have a voice. We don't all have to stagnate. As Judy Collins has shown, if you do the work on a daily basis, you can sing until you drop. btw: I first saw Joan at my
high school in 1955 and found her to be an inspiration. I also love the album she made with poetry and fine works called."Baptism".

Joan is going strong. She is still sometimes singing. She's an accomplished portrait artist. She has a book out of her whimsical upside down drawings with captions. What more do you
want from her? She's in her 80's and seems full of energy. Singing is only one of her many accomplishments

Judy sings mellow. Joan is more like an opera singer. My favorite Collins song is Tim Buckley's Once I Was. Imagine is up near the top on my Joan Baez list.

    • @paulb47NYC

Judy suffered from TB and was never able to really give full vent to her pipes. Still I think Joan would have had the edge anyway. Collins is amazing in "Send in the Clowns' and shows another whole side in "Marat Sade". Joni is a Poet Laurette, Judy had her niche. Nana Mouskouri has made more money than Whitney Houston and Maria Carrey---but I'll Take Joan Baez--and for many reason.
The title of this thing so SUCKS that I won't even listen to it.

Waiting for "The Life and Sad Ending of the Famous Biographies Loser" video. Anyone who will constantly post BS videos titled the "sad ending" of people who are still very much alive just for views is nothing short of a pathetic lowlife, totally devoid of character.
