In this video I will show and explain how I solved the problem with the newton rings and came to the conclusion that I needed to buy another glass in my magnifier. I will print a couple of photos from my trip to Venice and tell you where that strange tint came from in some of my photos.

I bought a new Durst M601 in 1975. I replaced it with an M800 (6x9cm) in 1980. The advantage of Durst is that the negative carriers take replaceable inserts for various formats, both glass and glassless. Long ago I determined that the "perfect" combination for my Durst film carrier was a 6x9cm anti-newton glass upper plate and a glassless lower plate in whatever film format I was printing. Up to 6x9cm, the natural film curl holds the film tightly to the upper plate, thus is flat. The lower glassless plate supports the film overall, frames the film format to avoid any lens flare, and eliminates two of the glass surfaces as possible dust catchers. I get no newton rings. I get no artifacts from the anti-newton glass plate, even on 35mm to 16x20 inch enlargements.

I actually really liked the first version of the staircase photo with the off tint.
Great video! Shopping around for a Durst M670 and your work is helping me a lot.

I was getting bad newton rings even WITH anti newton top glass... I think possibly due to very high humidity here at the moment

You need to invert it probably, it should be anti-newton glass against film base and not emulsion. If you scan it like me, you should flip glass from top to buttom side or scan emulsion down to light🫰

I had AN glass against film base. It stopped newton rings for black and white but not colour negs that are glossy both sides@@NordicLab

Never mind. I'm an idiot. When i cleaned the ANR glass i inserted it the wrong side up so the etched side was not facing the negative base. Problem solved

I never use the glass. I prefer only the film in the special mask.
