Hey man, great tutorial.. straight to the point! I have the same laptop but on Lenovo's website they say the max ram capacity is 12gb, does that mean the 16gb stick will cause problems in future?
I’ve been using it for work long hours. Never had any issues yet. I could be wrong but it could be the same like dell where they have recommended ram which was when they designed the laptop. Then when the bios gets updated they allow more ram. If they really wanted to prevent more than 12gb they could control it with the bios update. It’s kinda like how some laptops can only run 2400mhz ram. Even if you put a ram with 2666mhz, it only runs it at 2400mhz because they capped it. Just my opinion though. Issue is this laptop has no dedicated gpu memory so it relies a lot on the ram

If you are having doubts just play it safe. That ryzen 5 can handle it but if other people are saying they have issues with 20gb probably best to play it safe. I wonder if those having issues updated their bios. But in my opinion, best to play it safe and stick to the official lenovo website recommendations especially if you still have a warranty. The ryzen 5 with vega 8 integrated graphics! Very nice! Maybe there’s an incompatibility issue with this cpu, the 4gb ram integrated then the dim slot. Good question. Toward the end of the video I put how much memory was available. Actual usable memory is 16.3GB after upgrade. The shared gpu memory is 9.9gb available. The model laptop in the video does not have any dedicated gpu memory so it relies on the ram. Also yes, you can put 16gb stick of ram on this laptop ddr4 2400MHz
Good day sir, is it true that you can't use 2666 ram on a 2400 memory of a Lenovo s145, I keep getting blue screens when I upgraded my ram with kingston 4gb ddr4 2666 , but when it was removed, my laptop went back to normal.
Has anyone had experience with an Ryzen 5 3500u upgrade? I want to increase the RAM to at least 12GB, but I'm worried about the performance after the disabled Dual Channel. And I don't really understand how much memory my laptop can take, many sites like Crucial say 20GB, but WMIC shows 12, Lenovo also says 12 (model S145-15API)
i have a intel(R)pentium(R)Silver N5000 CPU @ 1,19Ghz with 4GB of RAM I wonder how much ram can i upgrade it to and what frequency do i need since im not a tech guy.

i have the same laptop planning to upgrade the ram its only 4gb so i need to just buy ram and just plug n play? cuz the motherboard has a non removable 4gb?
Yes! If it’s the same model the 4gb is built in. There’s only one ram slot ln this laptop. It should be plug and play. People also recommended disconnecting the battery before installing new ram, which I didn’t show in this video. Make sure you check the speed of the ram as well. The one in the video was 2400mhz so I would double check to make sure the laptop supports the speed you are buying
I did increased from 4 to 8 gigs and I should say it didn't helped to desktop windows programs execution at all Tho it helped a lot to the native Android apps and Linux system to work much better

I would run crucial scanner to see how much ram is compatible. usually 12gb of ram is more than enough, unless you are trying to run some extensive games/ multi tasking. It has 4gb ram built in so if you have a 12gb ram stick it would give you 16gb total which is usually more than enough. Ryzen's are pretty good too.
They will run to match the slowest ram speed. If the soldered ram you have runs at 2133 mHz, the additional ram you install will run at the same speed. Just make sure the ram you are planning to install is compatible
@@whattmeter how do I know if it's compatible? All I know is that the ram I bought is of the same size as in the video. Sorry for having many questions, it's my first time upgrading a laptop
@m.mmotivationnnnsurvivor7151 no worries. One way to check is task manager > more details >performance > memory. Check the ram speed, form factor, slots used etc
Good question. Unfortunately not for this specific model in the video. This is a budget laptop. The motherboard is not like the new ones with graphics cards.

Yeah same model. I’ve checked and opened up the computer. My computer shows I only have 4gb total. with the 4gb being in the slot. I tried removing the stick to see if it was registering the soldered ram rather than the removable stick and it wouldn’t boot.

You can run crucial scanner, or check the manual. An easy way also is to open cmd as admin > type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity. It will be in kilobytes convert it to GB if that makes sense
It will depend on the CPU installed, not the motherboard itself The best CPU for this motherboard support the ram with 2666mHZ which is the max RAM for the motherboard too
Thank you for this video :) I have the same motherboard than you, the LNVNB161216 in an ideapad s145-15api (ryzen 7 3700u version) do you think it will work with 20Gb of ram? More ram increases responsiveness. Also helps multi tasking applications. If you are referring to faster boot time most likely an ssd upgrade would be more noticeable

No problem. That’s interesting crucial doesn’t suggest any m.2 ssd huh. You can identify the motherboard using cpuz and looking up to see is it’s m.2 compatible
Personal I have not had any issues at all. It’s also possible that the extra memory is used in the shared gpu memory. This laptop is still my daily driver with the same ram I installed. I suppose it really depends on the specs of the pc

Disconnecting the battery is to prevent a short from electric static discharge. Its just for good practice.
Hi. The official website says its max memory is 12gb. How did you upgrade it to 20gb? It's Lenovo IdeaPad S145 with Ryzen 3 right?
This model is not ryzen unfortunately. I made a lenovo video with ryzen which was 12gb
$60? Pretty good price! For a total of 20GB, not bad! Have the AMD A6 S145, but needs the DC jack replaced or maybe get the broken tip of the plug out! Yes. There are videos out there. I made one similar th-cam.com/video/CR-JZtWGjTs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=n3GIW7UET6wA402D

Did the performance increase dramatically? I'm looking at upgrading my ram to the same one as in this video, I'm struggling to edit my videos on Filmora because the app lags, it's slow, sometimes turns off 😭😭
Yup it works pretty good for me. I use it as my daily driver for work. Also use it for basic editing, illustrator, photoshop. What cpu is your laptop using as there are many configurations for this laptop? Also are you using an ssd? Usually ssd can make a big difference
@@whattmeter hi thanks for replying, it's using Intel Celeron cpu 4205U @ 1.80GHz and yes it has SSD. It's so slow can literally take about 5 minutes to turn on 🤦

Yes! If it’s the same model the 4gb is built in. There’s only one ram slot ln this laptop. It should be plug and play. People also recommended disconnecting the battery before installing new ram, which I didn’t show in this video. Make sure you check the speed of the ram as well.

It was a long time ago. It should be much cheaper now. Also there are plenty of options out there.

They will run to match the slowest ram speed. If the soldered ram you have runs at 2133 mHz, the additional ram you install will run at the same speed. Just make sure the ram you are planning to install is compatible

@m.mmotivationnnnsurvivor7151 no worries. One way to check is task manager > more details >performance > memory. Check the ram speed, form factor, slots used etc
Another method is using a program like cpu z to see what ram you have
Hi. As I understood correctly you have two valid spots for Ram, right? Theoretically, you can install double 16gb, means 32?
No, it maxed out by the Motherboard specs not by how many slots you have for Ram.

Awesome tutorial. For some reason my computer isn’t showing the soldered ram. Any idea how to fix it?

Yeah same model. I’ve checked and opened up the computer. My computer shows I only have 4gb total. with the 4gb being in the slot. I tried removing the stick to see if it was registering the soldered ram rather than the removable stick and it wouldn’t boot.
That is odd? Is it showing slot 1 of 2 in the task manager? Or slot 2 0f 2

I wanna play Fortnite on my laptop but I get 48 fps in the lobby and in game I get like 2 FPS in game will more ram help me get more fps especially in game I have the AMD A6
fortnite is pretty resource intensive. The lenovo s145 wasn't really meant for heavy gaming. more of a budget pc.

Hi, any updates? I have 5500 u Ryzen with 8 GB, want to put +16 for 20 GB. Crucial says max is 20, Lenovo page - 12 GB, the cmd says it supports 16 gb. But Stics for 12 GB of DDR 4 not on the market :D.

I wouldn’t say storage. More like it helps multitask or run more resource intensive applications
nah
It may only prevent the apps using swap, thus helping the storage device to work lesser and live longer 😂
