  • Got out on the West Branch for the first time this year and it didn't disappoint. Slow start nymphing but things really picked up in the afternoon with a great hatch and lots of risers. Brought many fish to net incluidng a few over 15".

    What a productive day!
    Whether it’s spin fishing, or fly, it’s hard to beat top water.
    Great job as always

    Hi Jon! Great stuff! Nice hookups on film with a few chunkers. I stayed a little lower down on the WB, especially with nymphing, the green slime up in Deposit is too much while nymphing, dry fly fishing is no problem up there. Caddis and Hendricksons were on pretty heavy, spinner fall at dusk was incredible. My video will be out towards the end of the week. Also did a little bit on the East Branch. Great camera work as always. Hope to get together with you this year sometime. Take care. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Scott! Yeah the slime was a little annoying nymping. I was kinda biding time till the bugs started hatching! I gotta get over to the EB sometime. Im sure you caught 3X more than me haha but I was happy to have some action! Yeah Im sure well run into eachother again at some point!

      Yeah if you hit it right when there is a good hatch there are soo many fish its incredible. SOmetimes they can be soo finicky but this day they weren't too bad although I had to do a little switching. There were a couple big fish I wasn't able to entice though! You should def come back for another round! Thanks for wathcing and commenting!!

    I just started fly fishing and I’m learning a lot from your videos. Can’t wait to get back into the river. You’re a fission in the same spot where I was fishing last year. Hopefully this year I’ll have better luck.

    I'm surprised you got away with only a 10' 5x leader, nice job! I rarely fish smaller than a 14' foot and often go 16' down to 6x to minimize drag. The fish there are so damn picky. But then again, late May really is prime time there. Nice video!

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah early season you can get away with a shorter leader/heavier tippet for sure, thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed!

    Awesome, nothing but wild trout! Didn’t know they stocked that creek. WB Delaware trout are gorgeous.

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they don't stock the WB but they stock Oquaga creek which I was just below and the stockies go out into the big river around the treatment plant. I think like 3-4 were little stockies but the rest were wild! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@deaddriftoutdoors2940 the water was perfect 2 weeks ago! That creek produces so much muddy opaque water when it rains.

    great stuff. That small creek above has smallies and big fall fish in there. My son caught a 19" fall fish last year. And I hooked into a nice carp right where you were catching the fish on dries at the end that i broke me off after a long fight. And apparently guys catch stripers there too. That is a neat multispiecies section of the river.

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I was watching a bunch of big suckers/fallfish just above the confluence. Maybe I'll have to explore it more in the future. Thanks for comments!

    The Del is about 2.5 hours from my location, and is my goal to fish it, by fall. With these gas prices...ugh. I'll have to wait. I've been fly fishing for 25 years, been in NY for 13, and never knew about the Neversink, Deleware, or how to get to the Ausable or Battenkill.

  • @spotburningsucks4043

    There are no stocked fish in the west branch. Those trout are all wild.

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They stock Oquaga Creek heavily and it warms substantially, many of these stocked fish go into the WB near deposit, very common to catch them by the sewage treatment plant. I am aware the state does not stock the Delaware :)

  • @ithacaster
    @ithacaster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am going to have to figure out how to get down to that spot in Deposit you were fishing downstream from the RR bridge. I was fishing the east branch out of my back yard on the same day and hooked a real nice fish but lost it.

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its easy. There is an angler parking lot right across the river from where I was getting em on dries and you can also park at the wastewater plant. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Jon,
    Question as to what kind of attachment you have for your go pro on your wader suspender. Been using the hat mount but don't really like it.
    BTW probably see you some time up there since we fish the same waters.
