So at the start they use NURMS im assuming to get an idea of what it would look like when the hard edges are rounded, just curious if im wrong or missing the purpose of it ?

couldve saved yourself a lot of work by adding chamfer modifier and then choosing quad chamfer, lowering the tension to 0
