    The comb-like accessory that you described (at 2:30) as a stopper is actually a device for helping the robot to go over the join between different diameter curtain rods - that will prevent the outer rod from being pushed. On my version 1, I found that the adhesive needed to be augmented with some packing tape, but it works just fine.

    You convinced me to finally take the plunge. Ordered four of the newest version. Also, thanks for the discount code :-)

    Does this work with the curtain rods that they have for the black out curtains they have now? I really hope so

    Thanks for including the Google Home app integration! So many reviewers ignore that aspect, but it's an important part of a smart home. Just ordered one of these things using your code to try it out :)

      Awesome! I typically try to show off all the integrations with different assistants, but Google Home is what I mainly use so I just went with that. Glad this helped.

    Tks for the review. Does the solar panel still work with windows that are covered with solar film?

    Any idea how wide of a U-Rail opening they can handle? Website not very detailed.

    I love how much quieter these seem to be. Can you use the light sensor data in other apps for automations?

    • @TechWithBrett

      So right now I am not seeing the lights sensor let me trigger the automations like the light sensor does on the actual hub. I'll let you know if that changes. Hopefully it will so you can automatically shut them when the window is too bright.

    No dark version of bot 3, what a shame.

    Is the hub required to set a schedule using their app? I’m okay without google/alexa integration as long as the curtains can open and close at the same time each day. Thank you!

    any idea how these compare to the aqara curtain controller? Ive got blackout curtains that the original switchbot couldnt handle. the aqara does okay but doesnt like the joint in the curtain rod, itll get stuck every time if ot opens past it. Im hoping this has enough muscle for blackout curtains and can handle the joint between the pieces a little better.

    • @TechWithBrett

      In one of their demo videos they showed it against the Aqara version and the Aqara did stop and stutter along the rail but it eventually worked and pushed the weights across the rail. The Curtain 3 pushed the same weight and didn't have any hiccups. I think the added force is definitely going to help with these.

      awesome, thanks @@TechWithBrett! i might have to get one in the next week or so. looks like the BLE already works with HA, so this should be a great option.

  • @PatStellato

    So you need 2 of these for the 2 sides of the curtain bracket, right?

    • @TechWithBrett

      That is correct. If you had one really long curtain 1 would work.

    • @JohnCashin

      @@TechWithBrett I'm glad you said that because that is exactly what I was going to ask you in response to PatStellato's question. I have two curtains on my living room window but it just occurred to me (doh🤣) that ONE of them could cover the WHOLE window on its own, so I guess I might as well just buy one SwitchBot for now and have the one open and close vertically. If it works well I might look at putting the second curtain back and getting a second SwitchBot but this would give me the chance to try it out without spending too much initially. Thanks.

    What about Home Assistant? Would you need the hub forr HA especially as it is Matter?

    • @TechWithBrett

      Great question, enable for the SwitchBot devices to work over Matter they need the SwitchBot Hub 2. Then if you can add Matter devices into Home Assistant that should work.

    • @AngloYorkshire

      But Matter products should work with everything without extra hubs!

    • @marc3793

      @AngloYorkshire SwitchBot had to go this route in a way because they use BLE for their ecosystem, which Matter doesn't support.
      They could move their product range across to Thread or WIFI, but there are pros and cons there too and of course cost for them to change direction.

    • @BenutzernameXY

      No but you need a adapter for Home assistant but not the hub

    Can these switch bot work on outdoor curtains?

    • @TechWithBrett

      There is no weather resistance added to these so it is unsure if that would work. If the curtain stays dry and doesn't get too dirty it might work.

    • @TechWithBrett

      Interesting. Are you using it with or without hub? Does opening the app get it to work again or what do you have to do?

    • @ashleymaingi7026

      I have the hub and I use the switchbot app it will work for a day or too then go unresponsive. I cant open my curtains using the app at all when that happens. I have an alexa device but i mostly use the app *switchbot* to open and close my curtains. When it is unresposive I take the switchbot off the rod and i connect it to the charger then put it back on the rail then it works its odd

    This brand lags behind others in that their products still require a hub to be controlled over the internet. These devices are large enough to have wifi built in.

      or a) useful if you can’t reach a curtain or b) useful you have a disability where certain movements are challenging or c) how I use it - to open up my curtains before I wake up every morning so I go to sleep in darkness without the glow of big-city lights and still wake up with the sun. Imagine you have these in multiple windows in your house. If you're someone who opens and closes curtains throughout the day and night you can do simple math to figure out how much time this saves you a year. Not to mention saving money from keeping the house cool on hot days, closing curtains if it's too hot and you're not home. Automations are the future
