The Awesome has three PPCs so it can fight all of Marik's foes at once - one for Steiner, one for Liao, and one for Marik. Glory to Marik!
One for Regulus, One for Oriente, and One for Marik
I would have though it was for the last three other siblings directly in line for whatever title was at stake that afternoon and had survived the other assassination attempts. :)

I do love the "Tangent history of a faction before the actual mech" approach.
I'm doing it for each Great House
The Awesome, otherwise known as a mech that gets perfected with the 9Q. It just makes the 'Mech a better version of itself, nothing fancy like giving it a streak 2 for some god forsaken reason, no XL engine turning it from a zombie to fragile like glass, just another PPC, freezers, and a Guardian ECM so it can live a little bit longer.
Personally I’d invest in large lasers instead of PPC’s as you get with it improved damage and lose the min range. Also the parts are less expensive.
This mech is what I would call a sleeping dragon, at first glance when it is seen people believe it is just a standard assault mech but when it's put into the field it is a machine that can easily win fights be it long attritions or quick firefights it is truly one of a kind and will whoop ass wherever it may go.
That Damned Marik mech! It can start firing at the beginning of the current session of Parliament and keep going til it closes.

Another knock on of the Magistracy Crisis as that economic boondoggle was called is that the Periphery lost our best ally on the High Council. Prior to the ten year depression the FWL regularly sided with the Periphery in trade matters. So for the price of a slight economic boom we laid the grounds for the future Directives and Tax Edicts that would make the Periphery Uprising inevitable.
Always found the Awesome design with the arm/shoulder pads to be a bit weird. But I do enjoy the Great House's back stories to be nice.
The shoulders pads are basically spaced armor protecting the shoulder actuators.
To my wargroup, this faction is an easy 'well rounded' pick. As Big Red 40 has stated, Purple Bird Strong! Lol

The awesome is my absolute favorite mech.
My only wish is that it was upped to 100 tons to take advantage of the extra room.
Being a fan of energy boats (for obvious reasons) myself I see the Awesome as aptly named. Well done, Mage Leader.

I didnt make the manpower connection until it was mentioned at the end 😕. Sure bet commoners would be very loyal to whomever gave them a mech.
The Awesome is one of my favorite Battletech designs. Mostly its just because its had 3 big guns making it seem like a walking battleship unlike say an Atlas which is a Swiss-Army Knife.
The AWS-8R and AWS-8T Awesome variants are interesting as being they become more like a missile cruisers compared the AWS-8Q's Battleship.
If the Awesome itself has just 1 major weakness, its not 100tons. It it was heavier could have had 30% more armor, it could carry more Heat Sinks and even close range Medium Lasers. I used the Awesome a lot in Mechwarrior 4. Upgrading an Awesome is as simple as replacing its guns with Clan-tech like Clan ER-Large Lasers or C-ER-PPCs, and maybe C-LRMs.
Even just switching to DHS would easily allow a 4th PPC.

It has 4 PPCs, 19 double heat sinks, and a Guardian ECM suite.
The AWS-11M has 8 Light PPCs(4 with PPC capacitors) and 20 clan grade double heat sinks.
This gave me some respect for Merik as you gave a backround that i could understand.

For what I recall Lycomb Davion Introtech has a license for this bad girl along with the guillotine but post 1st SW they haven't bothered to make facilities to make use of them. Which is weird in a post helm IS.

I love my Awesome in MW5 a walking brick shithouse my favorite moment was wading out into a battle surrounded by 2 enemy lances, 1 allied lance, and my own lance as artillery up a hill was hammering all of us, I simply walked through the hell fire pimp slapping mechs with the battle fist and sadly having only one ppc to fire as I couldn't get the Awesome I wanted but hey shotgunning some light mech with LRM 15s does put a smile on my face, never over heats so I kept firing till the end of battle, armor in the red ammo for the LRM all but gone. Fun times

One thing that always bugged me about the awesome being A fwl mech is its ppc,s, lore wise the fwl is supposed to be ppc starved with little to no domistic production, many fwl mech vatients trade ppcs for other weppons, such as the fwl Marauder trading its ppcs for large lasers. Yet the primary fwl assult mech is a ppc boat? Never made since to me.
they needed to take the ppc's from all those other mechs so they could stick them on awesomes
You could always swap the three PPCs for four large lasers and add an extra heat sink. Slightly more firepower on paper and still quite manageable heat load.

Constant production of Awesomes for centuries sucks up the PPC supply... the FWL is "PPC starved" which is why everything else gets stripped and what supply does exist is allocated to Awesome production.

I have an awesome 8q that in mw5 modded ive stuffed with a light engine clan doubles and endo. Then stuffed every CERPPC and double heat sink in it possible along with energy fcs LMAS and HARJEL2 self repaired armor. I can brawl one shot any assault in the head and run away from them.
FWL Is the Austo-Hungarian empire in space, epic facial hair and all.
It is the rock, the anchor of the battle line.
One ppc a moderate hole in a mech, but when you need mech to look like Swiss cheese call for an Awesome.

The 9M has slightly better er pccs but still the same number as the 8Q
Has anmo in its left leg which makes the legs more vulnerable which can cripple the mech.
Its uses a XL engine whic makes it more vulnerable due to its size and further increases the chance of the mech being crippled.
The only good thing about is that Adam Steiner made a better version of it
The 9Q
Makes use of fucking 4 classic PCCs and still has enough room for a small laser.
Has a ECM suite which makes it great electronic warfare.
Again has more PPCs.

The Awesome is indeed awesome.
The FWL can be best summarized as Space Balkans because of how much civil wars they do.
There's actually not that many. There's only been one big one and a couple minor skirmishes. They get along with each other far better than the Balkans ever could.
Worth the wait.
That mechwarrior list though... if it gets much longer, you're gonna have to practice speaking faster.
