Second Dwarf Fortress and Caves of Qud. Despite being a heavy lefty (pun intended) Tarn Adams has managed to keep his political leanings out of his own game. Same for the caves of qud dev, with the only thing he has done is making a certain NPC bases on his girlfriend completely immortal.
Ah Battlefront 2, the good one. My friends and I spent hours upon hours playing that one. We'd meet up after school and start up galactic conquest campaigns fighting as every faction at one point or another. We even spent weeks getting every medal to legendary status. For those who were never blessed enough to play this game, you would earn medals for actions taken. Kill x-number of enemies with a certain blaster, get a medal. Capture a point a number of times, get a medal. The game kept track of how many of each medal you had. Get enough of them and you unlock a bonus power up whenever you got that medal. But, if you got enough to reach legendary rank for that medal, and you would just start playing with the bonus active all the time. So my buddy and I spent hours playing with and against each other till we had all of them. The engineering one was the most tedious. We'd go to a space map on opposite teams. One person would hop in a fighter and fly it over to the other ship where the other one would use the repair tool to hack them out of it. You can only earn one medal at a time per life, so you'd shoot the person, hop in a ship to repeat the process on their ship. It was so boring, but in the end we had self repairing vehicles. Edit: You'd save all your progress on a memory card. So everything was saved to your specific profile.
I have another recommendation -Classic Fallout, 1 and 2. If you're into RPG and wanted to taste the experience of old RPG, the learning curve might be difficult, but you will get used to it eventually -Cry of Fear, if you want to get into survival horror, this game is sole reason why i love survival horror now. Risk of Rain 2 is one of the best "build to break the game" genre games and Battlefront 2 is the only game I ever meaningfully played multiplayer, but it dominated my childhood.
For me it was the original Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. I spent SO MUCH time in multiplayer in that. Then all my friends moved on to unreal tournament and tribes 2. and it wasn't ever the same. then i stumbled upon Heroes of Might and Magic and the rest is history. lol
@dracothegreat1 I have heard wonderful things about both of those. If you liked Heroes, though, there are some newer strategy games worth playing. Age of Wonder 4 and Dominions 6, assuming it can be called new, can serve similar functions to heroes depending on what you liked about it (from what I have heard about Heroes of Might and Magic).
@@uroplatusfimbriatus2603 It kills me that age of wonders 4 is woke. Body type a and b in the character creator. and pronouns. So... yeah. not an option. Hero's hour is very good, a pixel graphics tribute to old school might and magic. I haven't tried dominions yet, i'll have to look into it.

Stardew Valley aka Uncle Ted's Cabin. For me, I usually go back and do a playthrough of Mirror's Edge 1 and Dark Messiah of might and magic. As for newer games, I've had a lot of fun with Signalis and Fear and Hunger 2 Termina. While I don't have a lot of experience with the genre, I think Signalis is meant to be reminiscint of resident evil/silent hill with it's combat and inventory. I love basically everything about it. The atmosphere in this one is amazing. As for F&H 2 Termina. That's a fun game, but it takes place in a truly messed up universe. It's an RPGmaker game and has RPG style combat, but does not play like a typical rpg. This game is cruel in theme and in gameplay. There is no easy and cheap method of healing. The second you start playing, your hunger meter steadily drops to keep you moving. It's one of those games that feels so good when it finally starts clicking and you make progress. It's a game where you really have to try as many things as you can to progress. Some items give you very little information as to what they even do, but can be very helpful. All I can say is Praise Rher and keep sawing off the heads of your enemies.
Stardew Valley got me through my late wife’s cancer diagnosis, 15 months of agony, and death. When all hell breaks lose and you need something cozy to give your an illusion of control and peace, Concerned Ape has you with SDV.
Risen, the first one is really good. I never played the Gothic games, but people say it's basically just a Gothic game. The combat system is a really solid block/dodge/attack affair, the graphics are heavy on sprites but has really nice post processing, so it's an interesting cross of older and more modern methods. The writing and voice acting are two of the real highlights though. It was one of the first games where the writing was so good that it made me aware of it. The world map is small, but deceptively dense. You can find so many little pathways that lead to new areas that it makes exploring very rewarding. And the enemies don't respawn. So you can conquest the entire map, and then when you cross over into chapter two, the map is repopulated with different and stronger enemies, and you can explore the map again. I think there are two instances of this. I could go on for much longer, but to wrap it up, it's just a really fun and engaging game. Absolutely worth playing through.
I've been playing battlestar galactica deadlock the last couple of weeks. While it has no shortage of dlc, almost every dlc is a new campaign complete with new ships. I've been digging it. My only gripe is I wish I had a pc to play it on. Everything is so much easier on pc where strategy games are concerned. Me and one of my buddies played the hell out of the original battlefront. BF2 had some decent improvements, particularly where fighter play is concerned, but the on foot combat got a little too easy once you got all your weapon upgrades. It's still great though. Final Fantasy IX gets my vote all day. It's the absolute peak of the series.
As someone who had a whopping "0% of games from 2024" on his Steam replay, I 100% recommend either just playing old favorites or chewing through your backlog.
In the Star Wars category, absolutely Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, a masterclass in character writing and the classic CRPG, despite the fact that the studio, due to executive meddling from Lucasarts, was not able to realize their complete vision for the product. I miss the days when there was a certain simplicity and, paradoxically, complexity to games - robust mechanics, more thoughtful stories with some nuance (not that every game needs such; it's just far superior to the moralizing tripe that we see from major studios these days) - and yet a kind of innocence at the same time.
Since it was mentioned, I’m going to call out the Jedi Knight series. Especially Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy were my jam. I actually ran a server for a gaming group for those games back in the day
My favorite Mechwarrior game is 4: Vengeance. Top of the line story, I liked the Mech Lab and good fun. I like the gameplay in Mech 5 for what it does right but I was sooooo disappointed in their main story line. -_-;;
Man and here I thought I was the only one having nightmares 13 almost 14 years from graduating high school. For myself, Civilization IV and Rollercoaster Tycoon are huge 1st and 2nd. Do agree that Battlefront 2 is a great choice. Can be had on GoG for cheap.
I'm surprised Greedfall is so high on your list, and I approve. I have a soft spot for Spiders ever since I found out about it from The Technomancer, because I can see the potential the studio has, and it continues to improve toward that potential with each game. I really hope Greedfall 2 doesn't let me down.
Battlefront 2 is an excellent choice! I remember spending whole weekends just playing this game over and over. I lost count how many hours I must have put into the game. It's definitely one of my most played for sure! I would also highly recommend the Turok trilogy. I recently bought it and have been playing through it. They're fantastic games for their time and still hold up remarkably well to this day!
Good list! I have fond memories of BF2 though I'll admit I barely played online Those first few notes of AM2R always give me chills (though my only nit with your take on dread is it's linearity, It actually has some of the most intentional Sequence breaks of any metroid, they just arent super obvious, that said I agree that the parry is cringe and way too overtuned) That aside AM2R is probably the best 2D Metroid with Zero Mission/Super being runners up Helldivers 2 Is easily my GOTY, heck I even have pretty strong disagreements on some of the balance issues people have (TL:DR I think the main problem was enemy design/Armor mechanics not weapon balance, AH rectified both anyway so its a moot point). I will say despite their Killzone blunder it did make me more interested in the series so in a way it was successful....come on sony port it over to PC! Mech 4 Mercs is the correct choice for best Mechwarrior game. Personally my additions (After holding back on going full autism on all of these and limiting myself to the first ten that come to mind) -Nuclear Option -Soul Calibur 2 (Gamecube, but the others are fine!) -Timesplitters: Future Perfect -Command and Conquer 3/Kane's Wrath (If I have to pick ONE C&C, love nearly the entire series though) -Kid Icarus Uprising -Crysis 1 -Freelancer -Receiver 2 -Homeworld Cataclysm -Age of Mythology
Metroid Dread has exploits. If you play the game as intended, it constantly locks doors behind you to keep you from backtracking to places you previously explored. Your list, however, is based and super cool. If I had to pick my favorite C&C game it would be Tiberian Sun.
Honestly never expected greedfall to be on the list. I remember everyone not liking the look of it. I just thought huh looks like old rpg games from before 2015. Ill give it a shot seems fun and was happy I did. It did a good job telling the story and that ending my god it broke my heart
One of my fav movie of all time is a movie tie in game called Peter Jackson's King Kong. This game is so well done, and fun to play I still to this day drag my xbox 360 out each yr too play it. Great game.
It's nice to see someone actually put forward a list of recommendations like this. With there seemingly being an endless list of negative examples being paraded around "the culture war," it's nice to get someone who will just sit down and say, "hey, try this instead." Awesome list. ALSO: one of the coolest parts of "Cold Winter" is the main villain being voiced by Doctor Who himself, Tom Baker.
@@mageleader3699 No prob. Once you listen for it (the "Wings over the World" monologue is the best place), the voice of "John Grey" immediately jumps out at you. It's really cool to hear him in video games. I think he's done some others, including the intro to the 40K game "Fire Warrior" and narrating "MediEvil: Resurrection"
After watching the original Star Wars I got back into playing empire at war (specifically the Mods)… and I swear I spent 5 hours laying out the perfect scenario for the rebellion to win at Endor.
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. One of the greatest third-person shooters ever made. At one point, I thought I'd out-grown it, but I played it alot recently and that opinion has completely inverted. I didn't outgrow it, I'd burnt out on it in a way it took years to fix. Be forewarned: bugs abound, crashes occur often, and the game isn't even sold by EA anymore. Fun, despite its flaws, is plentiful.
@mageleader3699 Hmm. Different strokes, I suppose. I'd like to see another game in the vein of 4a myself, if I thought the current FromSoft could do it justice (I don't). On an unrelated note, have you considered making a video ranking Battletech fan works and fanfics? There are quite a few good ones out there, even if some of them were never finished (Centurion by Drakensis, for example).
Funny that you mentioned it, but I prefer "Crimson Skies" over "MW4-Mercs", it's a very nice flight "sim" with pretty nice gameplay (and a mission skip feature if you frick up enough, that 10 year old me really appreciated, lol) and a good story. I mean, where else can you be a dashing airship pirate with all the roguish charm of Eroll Flynn in his prime? On the topic of RPGs, I'd add "Expeditions: Viking", which is a historical turn-based squad RPG where you play a Viking who's got to got to Britain to get loads of money for your village. Gameplay is really nice, with crafting, light survival and loads of different paths to take. HEck, you can be part of the raid on Lindisfarne for loads of gold. Or you can make trade deals with everyone and be really nice. One of my favourite mechanics is the "k*ll-switch", you can set your attacks to either k*ll or knock out your targets, which does open different paths and change the story. I haven't played it in a while, because, well, the companions are pretty nicely written and as it turns out my ideal woman is apparently a black-haired norse witch with a cute voice and an intimate knowledge of poisons.
I'm gonna add some of my own recommendations: The OG STALKER Trilogy: Want a shooter that's gonna give you an actual challenge and don't mind some jank? These might be for you, though each game does feel a little different. Shadow of Chernobyl is the one to go with if you want more of a survival-focused game. Clear Sky's more like a tactical shooter with its faction war mechanic. Call of Pripyat is more for people who want something like Fallout 3 or New Vegas. There is also the completely free standalone mod called Call of Chernobyl, a sandbox based on Call of Pripyat, and its many, MANY submods like Anomaly, Call of Misery, GAMMA etc, though I strongly recommend playing the canon games first. IL-2 1946: If you want a good flight sim that lets you customize your level of realism without having to shell out a fuck ton of money or put up with live service BS, I can't recommend this game enough. Team Fortress 2: If you want a F2P, PvP online shooter without predatory monetization, it's hard to beat this one. Yes, there's hacker problems sometimes and the official matchmaking is ass, but if you find a couple of good private servers it's a pretty easy game to pick up, but difficult to master. Most weapons can be obtained via a random drop or from achievements (or you can buy them on the Steam Market for as little as three cents). Oh, and if you're looking for a game to make MONEY on...well, you could argue that the TF2 hat economy was the predecessor to the NFT fad, except unlike those, these still have value. It's not unheard-of for people to pay for new PCs by trading unusual hats in TF2, for instance. Civilization 5: This is the game I play when I want to relax, and with a very active modding community even now, you can customize it in all kinds of different ways.
Gotta admit, I'm more accustomed to the non-Mechwarrior games...Crescent Hawks 1 & 2, HBS Battletech...and am kinda horrible at MW, but they are still fun.
Lots of crossover. Killzone surprised me a bit, but that Jin-Roh aesthetic is awesome. I also like me classic strategy games, so Fire Emblem, Age of Empires, and Empire Earth are still comfy places for me.
Well, let's see if I am equally old and nostalgic. I admit I loved Killzone, I have not played it in ages, but I did just get my PS2 game collection back as well as my console. Might be time to give it another spin. You know, I never actually played Battlefront 2. I know it is kinda THE Star Wars game from that generation, but it wasn't one I ever played. I hear its praises sung constantly, and I've listened to all the cutscene audio I don't know how many times now, but really I should give the game a go. Ah, after all these years, I still haven't played Stardew Valley. Fuck I really should give it a try. It is such an obvious labor of love. What's funny is that I played every one of the games you named off except Dragon Quest. I still remember seeing copies of that at the Borders I worked at, when you could get video games at a bookstore still. Huh, I might have to take a look at the Metroid fanmake. Sounds like fun. I remember hearing about Cold Winter, but it wasn't one I ever played. I did play Black a bunch though. It is so weird seeing Greedfall here. I don't think of it being that old, but I guess it is getting up there isn't it. Risk of Rain 2 is another of those that I'm surprised to see included here. A buddy of mine bought that for me, and we played the crap outta it back in the day when we weren't on watch. Ah yes, Helldivers 2. Democracy needs us! I played MW4 so many times. I think the only one I didn't play constantly was Black Knight because I was so annoyed that I was forced to fight the people I had gone through so much hell together with in Vengeance.
I would throw in baldurs gate dark alliance 1&2 as well as champions of norath 1&2. Good rpg slashers. Actually bs got a refreshed HD release on console but I play it with my wife on an hdmi setup on the ps2.
Great list was glad to see games like Greedfall or Risk of Rain 2 included. Also id like to add that if anyone wants a game series that isn’t slop check out the STALKER series.
I quite enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift on DS back in the day. I 100 percented that game. Love the characters, art, animations, music, and story. Only wish the combat movement animations were a bit faster, but emulator speed settings help with that.
Also, the final floors of Brightmoon Tor, and the secret clan trial quests were absolutely brutal in terms of difficulty. The only way to consistently beat them without relying on RNG was to use a party and clan composition that bordered on an exploit (Smile Toss loop).
For a couple indie ones, if you like Stardew Valley, I think you'll appreciate Traveller's Rest. It's a neat little tavern management game in a similar art style. Farming, brewing, cooking. I've never had so much fun with time management and busy work. Carrion is an albeit short but phenomenal horror game where instead of fighting John Carpenter's Thing, you are said Thing, and the true horror is the military industrial complex being brought to bear to fight you. The last is an oldie, but I consider a hidden gem from the SNES, so fire up your emulators. Uncharted Waters: New Horizons is an simulation/RPG with multiple characters who's stories are tailored to the play style you're looking for. Want to be a pirate? Check. Royal British Officer hunting down said pirates? Check. A Turkish merchant connecting the world through trade? Check. A twink from Portugal that wants to discover Atlantis? Check. As a kid, I loved this game for how proportioned it was on the meat and potatoes of gameplay. Trading, ship combat and modification, swordfights, and each characters story feels distinct.
@@mageleader3699 mine was MW2. I will forever love the Maurader IIC even if it is made by the trashborn. I remember 8 year old me slapping so many clan ERPPCs on every mech possible. I loved blowing myself up from overheating even. it was dumb fun and I somehow managed to beat the campaigns after a lot of trying. MW4 was when I actually started learning to play the game for real though. I got real good at sniping out the cockpits of most the mechs except the atlas. I never could remember which eye to aim for there... loads of fun.
I agree . It was awesome and had soooo much content into it that nobody cant be bored of it. BUT i prefer the original Metroid 2 . Its much more darker and weirder in its tone and delivery which borders to be almost as a horror game because its sci-fi aspects and the old graphics are just much more like forbidden , untouched ruins to explore and when a metroid is found , you got out of a sudden that panic inducing soundtrack that blast through the speakers till it dies. People dont give enough credit what the original game had and even it clunky controls underlines being much more into horror than action .
My brother and I used to play Dragon Quest 9 endlessly. I still remember my character and his were this dynamic duo. I miss metriod too. I'm gonna get prime 4 the moment that shit comes out
@mageleader3699 we were sold on the game because of its episode on "Nintendo week" and would ending up role playing on our own with it all the time. I'm glad you got to try it. My brother is in the army now but I'm gonna shoot him an overly Is nostalgic dm now lol
I've been playing the DS 3DS Pokemon games mostly. As far as console. Have to say the Ratchet and Clank games for at least PS2. Skies of Arcadia Legends for Game Cube.
@Mage Leader If youve never played it I can heavily recommend Starsiege on the pc for good old fashioned Mech action. I never played Mechwarrior but got into mechs through that game and its predecessor Earthsiege 2 (which is jank as hell but fun, though the controls make me scream when i came back to it to find they couldnt be remapped!). Id be interested to hear your take on Starsiege, mech customisation is expansive, two campaigns which are pretty great and immersive, decent voice acting and the multiplayer was really fun if you can still find some people to play with!
*For clarity I got into mech warrior years later but was aware of it, just never played them. Got into the tabletop game a few years back and HBS Battletech BEX and Mech warrior 5 Mercs modded.
I gotta stop commenting before the video is over. I got greedfall but never got to play it. But I like your sense of taste good sir, so I will try it again. HELLDIVERS BABY!
Man, Mechwarrior 4 was some fun shit, especially Mercenaries (which I just played not too long ago, albeit not on fullscreen). Zipping through the battlefield in a light mech is fun enough, but when you eventually get medium to assault mechs (my favorite being the ever so awesome Black Knight of course), shit gets crazy fun. I was also playing some Xenogears Perfect Works Build and let me just say this; it's my REAL GOTY 2024 (yeah I said, fuck Metaphor: ReFantazio, Xenogears still remains king of the JRPGs).
I was literally playing minecraft while watching this. like stardew valley it's VERY low stress, once you have your "starter equipment", i.e armor gear or better.
@mageleader3699 I play on minefurs, lgbtq+ friendly furry server. Non-furries are allowed as long as they are tolerant. I can set you up with a welcome basket to help you get started if you like
I think you should have had if you had not tried it already, Deep Rock Galactic. Dwarves, Darkness, Danger. Dwarves mining for minerals on asteroid and fighting nasty bugs for a soulless corporation isn't a glamorous life, but it's a living.
AM2R mentioned... instant-like granted. it's f*cking gold. to me it's basically equal classic super Metroid. it's that good. since it's not mentioned i would recommend OTXO, ultrakill and Cultic
All I will say this is a good list and actually gets people to play good games. I find video that just do the duh modern game woke but give no games or alternatives pointless and actually just give the thing people hate more attention
Id recommend S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if you want to just play one of them Call of Pripyat. If you want it for free, Anomaly or G.A.M.M.A. combine all the first trilogy into one game and make it more freeform
And give the audience spoilers? Back in my day, young man, we had to watch the whole list to know what each entry was! I do appreciate the advice, though.
Youth these days, complaining about DLC. In my youth we had to go all the way to town to buy the equivalent of DLC from a computer store on CD or floppy disk. Total lack of war games (even RTS ones) for a BattleTech audience isn't cool either. MegaMek, HBS BattleTech, or even Mech Commander should've been there somewhere.
@@mageleader3699 I'd love to see you debate it with Razörfist. Could collaboration/crossover with him be possible? And would couple tac nukes be out of the question? ;)
@mattikuokkanen That would be fun, but doubtful. He's got more important things to do than waste time debating video games with a channel the size of mine.
No Freespace or Freespace2? For shame, boo I say, boo. But for serious, the Freespace Open project has a shitton of stuff made by the community, the graphical overhaul is absolutely gorgeous and at most you'll need the OG freespaces via gog to be able to make full use of it, but I could be wrong and it might be 100% free. And thene there's the STALKER Anomaly stuff, same deal there, takes all 3 STALKER games that are on the X-Ray engine, smooshes them all together and has a metric buttload of community content all for the low low price of 0$.

@@TheCraziestFox are they now? I still have the game discs, but they don't seem to want to work on Windows 10. Do tell how I may fix this.
Original Thief trilogy with mods is my gig for sure these days.
Playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance currently and having a blast
Praise the lord! Henry's come to see us!
@JonathanFlexx Jesus Christ be praised!
Veilguard was so disappointing to those who saw inquisition as a beginning to something that could have been amazing.
I actually ran a server for a gaming group for those games back in the day
My favorite Mechwarrior game is 4: Vengeance. Top of the line story, I liked the Mech Lab and good fun. I like the gameplay in Mech 5 for what it does right but I was sooooo disappointed in their main story line. -_-;;
Vengeance is so good that I used its opening cutscene in the video!
@@mageleader3699 Noticed.
Gauntlet Dark Legacy is my comfort game
Any of the old hack and slash games get me
Diablo 1, Champions of Norrath, Fable
I used to play tons of Gauntlet at the local arcade when I was a kid.
@mageleader3699 i mean
Midway went outta business and MAME is one click away
I was so happy to here Scolar Visari’s speech lol. I wish I still had my PS2.
Nothing is more fun then having the red stratagem land at your feet by accident.
No matter what I do I cannot seem to escape Team Fortress 2. Been playing on and off again ever since I purchased a PC
Space battles in BF2 😂
Laughs in X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter.
Fair point. I just didn't get to play those until I was already a man.
Oh man that star dew intro is nostalgic. Haven't played in a while.
I'm surprised Greedfall is so high on your list, and I approve. I have a soft spot for Spiders ever since I found out about it from The Technomancer, because I can see the potential the studio has, and it continues to improve toward that potential with each game. I really hope Greedfall 2 doesn't let me down.
Awesome video, defiantly some games on here I got try for sure!!! hilarious cut to HD2 over veilgaurd that made my day
Oh, you can find Mechwarrior IV Mercenaries with all the MekTek mods downloaded
Battlefront 2 is an excellent choice! I remember spending whole weekends just playing this game over and over. I lost count how many hours I must have put into the game. It's definitely one of my most played for sure!
I would also highly recommend the Turok trilogy. I recently bought it and have been playing through it. They're fantastic games for their time and still hold up remarkably well to this day!
If I still had a P.C. or laptop, I would go back to playing Jedi Academy, or XCOM 2, or other old-school games.
Good list!
I have fond memories of BF2 though I'll admit I barely played online
Those first few notes of AM2R always give me chills (though my only nit with your take on dread is it's linearity, It actually has some of the most intentional Sequence breaks of any metroid, they just arent super obvious, that said I agree that the parry is cringe and way too overtuned) That aside AM2R is probably the best 2D Metroid with Zero Mission/Super being runners up
Helldivers 2 Is easily my GOTY, heck I even have pretty strong disagreements on some of the balance issues people have (TL:DR I think the main problem was enemy design/Armor mechanics not weapon balance, AH rectified both anyway so its a moot point). I will say despite their Killzone blunder it did make me more interested in the series so in a way it was successful....come on sony port it over to PC!
Mech 4 Mercs is the correct choice for best Mechwarrior game.
Personally my additions (After holding back on going full autism on all of these and limiting myself to the first ten that come to mind)
-Nuclear Option
-Soul Calibur 2 (Gamecube, but the others are fine!)
-Timesplitters: Future Perfect
-Command and Conquer 3/Kane's Wrath (If I have to pick ONE C&C, love nearly the entire series though)
-Kid Icarus Uprising
-Crysis 1
-Freelancer
-Receiver 2
-Homeworld Cataclysm
-Age of Mythology
Great game.
Despite its many, many missteps Helldivers 2 has been great fun. Love dropping in with my friends, some of the best party fun I've had recently.
Oh wow! I didn't know that Tom Baker was in the game! Thanks for letting me know!
I never got to play Mercenaries 2, but I loved the first game!
I'd also like to add the system shcok remake it perfectly captures the old school feel while playing great.
Awesome list!
Shame there's no Armored Core on there, but a Top 10 list is never easy.
If I ever make another one, you can bet AC3 will be on it.
@@mageleader3699
What do you think of AC4 and AC4: FA?
@combativeThinker I made a video about the entire franchise. Short answer, 4 is ok. 4A is where I think the franchise really lost its way.
@mageleader3699
Hmm.
Much to consider for the winter sale
I'm gonna add some of my own recommendations:
The OG STALKER Trilogy: Want a shooter that's gonna give you an actual challenge and don't mind some jank?
If you play Devil May Cry 3 for a little bit you will realize the sheer amount of damage that Fromsoft and Sony done to action games.
Great list was glad to see games like Greedfall or Risk of Rain 2 included. Also id like to add that if anyone wants a game series that isn’t slop check out the STALKER series.
STALKER is fantastic! Just didn't have quite enough room for it.
I do appreciate the Monty python reference. 😁👌👍
TES3: Morrowind
Star Fox 64
Need for Speed: Underground 1 & 2
Heroes of Might and Magic 1
Carrion is great! Will look into the other ones.
I am amazed you didn't mention Ace Combat.
MW4 baby. goddamn does that hit my nostalgia.
MW4 was my first real taste of Battletech.
Star Wars Republic Clone Commando is my favorite Star Wars game and I highly recommend it. It's Rainbow 6 meets Star Wars.
One of my favorites, for sure.
AM2R was very good.
I 100-percented it, and I hate metroidvania games. That's how good AM2R is.
Didn't know anybody who played Black, just saw it at game stores\shops
Black is a great game. It's just not as good as Cold Winter.
I'd like to add a few:
7 Days to Die
SimCity 3000
Age of Empires II
Homeworld Remastered
Civ V
Just Cause 3
Open Roller Coaster Tycoon 2
Bro, I love Roller Coaster Tycoon!
My brother and I used to play Dragon Quest 9 endlessly. I still remember my character and his were this dynamic duo. I miss metriod too. I'm gonna get prime 4 the moment that shit comes out
I only got to try the multiplayer a couple times, but it was fantastic!
@mageleader3699 we were sold on the game because of its episode on "Nintendo week" and would ending up role playing on our own with it all the time.
I'm glad you got to try it. My brother is in the army now but I'm gonna shoot him an overly Is nostalgic dm now lol
@@enovos3138 Man, I miss Nintendo Week. There must be a way to get the co-op going again in an emulator.
@mageleader3699 all emulators seem to have come a long way. I wouldn't be surprised if they've got this one down pat!
I've been playing the DS 3DS Pokemon games mostly. As far as console. Have to say the Ratchet and Clank games for at least PS2. Skies of Arcadia Legends for Game Cube.
Call to Arms: Gates of Hell and Rimworld are good ones to add to the list.
@Mage Leader
If youve never played it I can heavily recommend Starsiege on the pc for good old fashioned Mech action.

Its been an active warzone for over 10 years
I'm rapidly approaching the age where ten years still counts as recent.
Dino Crisis 1 & 2, LAPD Future Cop, Legend of Dragoon. here some good games to try.
Oh and I heard good stuff about the Legacy of Kain Soulreaver remaster so might fire that one up too!
Turns out the only halo killer was Microsoft, Bungie, and 343. Who'da thunk it.

I really like 13_13.2 and lightning returns. But I know why people don't like them.
I was literally playing minecraft while watching this. like stardew valley it's VERY low stress, once you have your "starter equipment", i.e armor gear or better.
I do return to Minecraft now and then. Was actually playing it just a couple days ago.

@TheStraycat74 I appreciate the offer, but I don't think someone with my sense of humor would last long in such a place, lol.
@mageleader3699 it's a pg-13 server... so, yeah. Maybe not
I love the SPIDERS love in this
Technomancer is criminally underrated.
@@mageleader3699 definitely, SPIDER games makes the games I wish BIOWARE made even if its on a lower budget
@@chrisdude2675 I would go so far as to say that their games hold up better than BioWare's.
For me it's X3: Reunion, Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword and Team Fortress 2.
I think you should have had if you had not tried it already, Deep Rock Galactic. Dwarves, Darkness, Danger. Dwarves mining for minerals on asteroid and fighting nasty bugs for a soulless corporation isn't a glamorous life, but it's a living.
DRG was my go-to multiplayer game right up until Helldivers 2 came out. Love it!
AM2R mentioned... instant-like granted. it's f*cking gold. to me it's basically equal classic super Metroid. it's that good. since it's not mentioned i would recommend OTXO, ultrakill and Cultic
Ultrakill was a little too sweaty for my taste, but Cultic looks really cool!
Mechwarrior 4 mercenaries with the mektek pack. Is the next best game next to Mechwarrior 3 if you want full sim.
hmm wonder if I could get a ps2 emulator to run cold winter
You can! Needs a couple adjustments to get the cutscenes working. There's instructions on the wiki.
Okay that do Mage
All I will say this is a good list and actually gets people to play good games. I find video that just do the duh modern game woke but give no games or alternatives pointless and actually just give the thing people hate more attention
I've come to that conclusion as well. I hope more people see this and find something fun to enjoy.
@@mageleader3699 bro I’ve been emulating so many games on my Mac book from the PS2 & Wii, I didn’t touch my console for a month.

Id recommend S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if you want to just play one of them Call of Pripyat. If you want it for free, Anomaly or G.A.M.M.A. combine all the first trilogy into one game and make it more freeform
I play all three of the original games. They're awesome!
The first Deus Ex.
Always a favorite. If I ever make another video like this, it'll definitely be in there.
For me, when it's time to go home, I reinstall Morrowind. Just nothing else like it.
Ps put the games list in the description with timestamps. And add chapters.
HBS sucks. I said it.

I'd love to see you debate it with Razörfist. Could collaboration/crossover with him be possible? And would couple tac nukes be out of the question? ;)
@mattikuokkanen That would be fun, but doubtful. He's got more important things to do than waste time debating video games with a channel the size of mine.
Didn't mention MechWarrior Living Legends...shame on you ML
I couldn't include everything. Maybe next time!
