I always thought the Studebaker was a quirky design people either loved or hated them. I always loved them really ahead of their time. That color would really shine with a polish its not a red more of a fire orange. Take care nice video nice old truck. Almost forgot just yesterday I saw a Plymouth pickup looked like the old job rated dodge trucks from the 40s. It was a solid unrestored survivor.

Studebakers are interesting when viewed from a distance as well as when examined up close. The bedsides are contoured while all the others had flat bedsides. The bed floor is steel; Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge used wood. Even details in the steel wheels set them apart. They were ahead of their time in the 1950s, it’s too bad they couldn’t afford to stay ahead.

Nice video! Concerning the lock on the passenger side only. The story I heard about that it was considered a safety hazard to open the drivers side door into traffic. As a result the driver would engage the lock (lifting the door handle up), slide out the passenger side onto the sidewalk and lock the passenger door from the outside. This would "force" the driver to not open the drivers side door into traffic. Makes it a bit of a challenge if it is a one way street and you park on the left hand side! This would be applicable to the US market. Can't speak to those that drive on the other side, would be interesting to know if those had the lock on the opposite side? I own both a 47' and a 49'. The 47 design is the predecessor to the the one shown here. The 49 is the first year of the design shown in the video. The 47 also has the lock on the passenger side only.

The key on pasanger side was a safty thing back then so you didnt stand in trafic to unlock door nice truck always wanted one
