I think the line, "I don't have to say goodbye." in Cold is a reference to a line in Seasons 9 and 10 of Red vs Blue, which Monty worked on, "Don't say Goodbye. If you don't say goodbye, they're not truly gone, they're just not here right now."

I love how thorough your OST reviews are. Such appreciation and robust discussion and analysis.
One of the best things in the OSTs is how Jeff gave us Weiss’s character development. Mirror Mirror, Part 2, It’s my Turn, and culminating with This Life Is Mine in 4. Also, the ‘prequel’ in her short in 5. Wonder if 7 will continue the story in song.
Well Weiss is the only one to have had à song in every season if i remember so since season 7 is in atlas it would be weird not to have à Weiss song xD
Volume 2 didn't have a Weiss song, and neither did Volume 6.
4:05 Just a little thing I wanted to note: They other 3 also get flung out, but you have to slow down the footage a lot to even see that clearly. But yeah, showing Pyrrha get flung by herself was a HUGE clue as to what was to come.
Besides the fact that Pyrrha had so many death flags she was basically a walking death flag.

@@tobiasskorupa1649 V2 and V2 were meant to be one volume, and Torchwick was supposed to be a disposable villain before RT realized that people really liked him iirc

Don't forget when it falls. This is the only opening from the pov of the villains and its great.
It's nice that as professional musicians, you guys can hear and appreciate even more things in these soundtracks than even ordinary fans can.
0) This is the first video of yours I've seen, and now I'm definitely going back to watch everything else! As a fellow musician, I appreciate the musical in depth you go into for all of these. Your thoughts on the chord progressions, 7ths and dissonance, etc. I'm nerding out and love it! Thanks guys!
1) Jeff and Casey love their breakdowns! Also Jeff loves his guitar solos too!
2) You are correct, SOME songs are fan service, typically the hardcore ship songs.. however, they are heavily involved in the story and very knowledgeable of the backstory, which is how they are writing about Weiss' father, Mercury and Emerals' past, without that having been "shown yet"
3) I haven't been to a roller rink since... Middle school? 10-12 years at least!!..
4) Almost all characters in this show have their own leitmotif, but Weiss' are the most recognizable because she has full songs that almost exclusively use it.. bringing you to the "Weiss Chord Progression"
5) I'm glad you noticed that the Salem motif was back in Volume 2 soundtracks! Following up on my point that they are in the loop story-wise, even several seasons ahead, when writing these!
6) Just in general, loved your discussion around Divide, and the questions about "definitely the bad guys" and gray areas.
7) I miss Monty a lot. Never got to meet him in person, but chatted once with him online. My live has changed drastically based on the way he lived his life and the impacts that made on me. Keep Moving Forward, friends.
8) The RWBY v FNKI soundtrack is my favorite because of the mix of genres! How dare you make me wait to the very end!!

At a panel at RTX after vol 3, Jeff talked about how he first writes to match the scenes, then when it’s done he sits down and expands the songs to full length. You can find the panel on TH-cam.

I've loved all your OST reactions so far and I can't wait for more. I love your knowledge and insight into the musical theory and practice (Matthew is a real star, but I like everyone's contributions), which adds a dimension that you don't find on other RWBY OST reactions - though I love many of those too that analyse lyrics or simply react emotionally. Love your dynamic and banter too, here and in the episode reactions. Keep it up!

Divide is one of the best Villain songs ever across all mediums. It's bombastic, loud, tells you exactly what the villain thinks and how you can't stop them. It is simply stunning.
My favorite part of When It Falls is that the second part's lyrics are nearly one for one with Cinder's speech after Penny's death.
It's such a joy to watch you analyze and explain some things that to the untrained ear is impossible to catch. RWBY music has so many levels and I love to learn this through you. Love this and the reactions!!

Give props to the brilliant Alex Abraham who does most of the work on the score. He's also pretty cool doing interviews for fan channels, so he might well be up for doing that - especially with professional musicians - on your channel

I love that you call Not Fall In Love With You "mall music" considering I'm pretty sure you only hear it in the show for a few seconds after team SSSN's match, so it's just playing in the arena like interlude music while people would be getting snacks/whatever between fights, which is in the same category as mall music to me lol
Also "this synth sounds like depression incarnate" made me laugh because it's so true. And hell yeah Divide is so good, I jam out to it like once a week no joke

With the inclusion of acoustics and remixes this channel has easily taken top spot in the RWBY Reactor Rankings. Are you planning on including the V2 remixes in a future OST reaction?
God Empress Jaune hadn’t thought about it since there is so much still to cover before volume 7 etc... but we will include the extra tracks like that on the future vids for V4-6
What gets to me the most when I listen to divide is that Salem isn’t downplaying humanity and saying that they can’t become a threat. She acknowledges that mankind can be a threat together and that one spark can bring hope for everyone, but she also knows how to prevent that and how to break it. Once she sees the possibility for hope, she acts quick and ends the issue fast.
And Ozpin had played directly into her hands with his need for secrets and making sure Salem and the Maidens and Brother Gods and stuff was all relegated to myths and legends, fairytails.

Okay, y'all just sent this Atlantan down memory lane remembering being a kid at the sparkles on 41 and that haircut place at Town Center lol. Anyways just wanted to say I am absolutely loving getting to see actual musicians who are RWBY fans digging through the soundtrack. It is so refreshing, and some of the details y'all are picking up on are fantastic. Looking forward to the Volume 4 ost review (it's my personal favorite overall). Does anyone know when Flynt started getting the official lyrics? Because he didn't have them yet for Volume 3, and the different lines in Mirror Mirror Part 2 catch me every time, and there's a couple others that I notice sometimes.
It's mainly the first verse.

PErsonally I don't "care for salem" i understand her a lot better post volume 6 but i don't think shes right and we still don't know all of her plans/motivation. I don't think it runs the" the good guys werent always good line" not really. it runs a bit of an the good guys were human line, and the bad guys were human but they took the wrong turn many moons ago. I'm curious how it's going to resolve though, I'm currious if were going to runi nto a we have to manage the bad guy resolution without death

By the way on a panel at RTX in I believe 2016 Jeff said he likes to reuse chord progressions so he puts certain progressions with certain characters and then thus you are exactly right on Weiss he uses the same progression without much change for each Weiss song and usually does the same thing with other characters. He does it to the point where you can play each song for a character back to back and barely notice any changes between the songs. They almost appear to flow together as one song.
i would have preferred it if when it falls was the intro only after things start going wrong, maybe it would have the same beginning with the piano but after that it has a happy vibe that is almost too happy along with it being slightly creepy and foreboding to those paying close attention
If ever they do a quality Flash Gordon, I hope they get Jeff Williams for the soundtrack.

I kicked myself because it took me until volume 6 to realise that Salem's leitmotif is just "twinkle twinkle little star" or the alphabet song.
Rooster Teeth is so evil to the shippers man, they made a song for Sun simping on Blake, then one for Yang simping for her, just to tease both sides of that war.
I'm actually pretty sure they animate the fight scenes to the music. Also was this recorded before volume 4?
P.S. "Not Fall In Love With You" was not written for RWBY. It was a love song written for Jeff's old band that RT used for the music after team SSSN's match.
It was recorded right before they started watching vol 4 ... it just got backlogged to get the other stuff out there on time
