I have had my P225 since Oct. 28 1988. I will Never sell or let this pistol out of my hands. I have enjoyed the slim design for carrying. It never has failed me. Many Many rounds through. Dependable, oh yes. I am a Sig fan, but I enjoy others as well.
My first duty gun when I started on my dept in 2001. I had options of at least 8 guns to choose from. Glocks Berettas Sigs HKs Rugers SmithWessons. I chose the 225 mainly because of price. It was slightly more than a Ruger 9mm. But priced with the SW 9mm. 10 years I carried it. Never jammed. Never failed. Cleaned and oiled every 6 months. 100-250 rounds fired about ever 6 to 8 months. Great duty gun.
I bought one back in 1994 for $450.00 used. Made in West-Germany ( Cold War).Today, I carry it with me hear in Arizona . Thanks for the outstanding review.
In States with mag capacity limits it is a good idea. He in the Peoples Republic of California. I bought 2 P6 surplus models some years ago and on the one I replaced the return spring and accuracy improved dramatically. As with most any used gun ordering a Wolf spring set is a good idea.
I bought mine in 1994 in Sacramento Cal. I was station at McCllelan AFB. My P-225/P6 is stamped West Germeny. One hall of a pistol . Shoots well. Could not carry it when i lived in California. I moved to Arizona ten years ago and i take it with me were ever i go. This is the first pistol i ever bought. I think it was a good chose.
I just bought a swiss P225 online. I'm looking forward to shooting it. It will complete (for awhile anyway) my collection of Sig Sauer pistols. I will have one of every variation of manual of arms. I enjoy the quality of Sig pistols this will be a self defense CCW for me. Thanks for the video it was very informative.
The pro mag magazines I own run flawlessly in my p225. I have more than 1k rds through my p225 w/ pro mags & I'd trust my life with them. Pro mag makes quality stuff, but "your Milage may vary."
I bought 2 of the p225's or p6's used 600$ got me both about 10 years ago. They were my 2nd and 3rd handguns. (My 1st was a Glock 23.) I have owned a couple Glocks, S&W, Rugers, Kel-tec, witness, Kahr's, Taurus's and other's I can't remember but ever since that 225 I'm a SIG guy. I still own it and it's still a great shooter. Definitely Not knocking the G23 (owned gen3&4) or Kahr (owned K9&CW9). If I could afford to have more than 3 pistols at a time I would buy them again. Anyway from someone who has tried on a lot of pistols my 225 has been the only constant. Nuff said.
P225 is awesome. Just like a Walther P-5, you can shoot all the +p, +p+ and hot NATO ammo you want. These are robust pistols! "Single stack" is all you need.
I have a Swiss made SIG P220 (aka P75) in 9mm and it’s also single stack (9+1). I’d love to have a P225 A1 but it’s not very common over here in Switzerland. For the “limited” capacity: I’ve learned a lot about guns in the military. Once, one of my fellow recruits asked our instructor why we don’t have a handgun that holds more rounds. He answered: “If you can’t handle a situation with 8 or 9 rounds, why and how should you do with 13 or 15?”
I just got a P225 Classic carry SRT, night sights new for $599 shipped with 3 mags. We do have a 10 round limit here in NY. I also have the P220 45 ACP, the P938 and the SP2022 in 40/357 Sig barrel. Thickness was paramount for me. I also have some Smiths (4566, 4004, 669).
People who worry too much about capacity obviously aren't confident enough in their skills. 8 + 1 rounds is enough for any self defense situation. Of course, more is better in many situations but if you're looking for a Sig quality firearm for cheaper than their normal pricing, this gun looks excellent. Personally I prefer the P220, but I can handle the .45 well.
Sig just released a video today on youtube announcing they are bringing this back and calling it the P225-A1 I love mine, hopefully the new ones are as good as the west german versions.
Gun battles can be ended with a quick shot between the eyes, what I am getting at is if your skill is there you don't need 13 rounds, you can do perfectly fine with 8 or 5 or even 1 if your good enough.
I picked this up last week in a trade, a W German P6. AMAZING SHOOTER and feels wonderful in the hand, almost CZ 75-like. For now I'm just waiting on a new slide catch spring because the one currently in it is weak, basically causing the slide to lock back during firing despite having rounds left in the mag. Once that new spring is installed, and I verify the gun operates reliably (which I'm sure it will) I wouldn't hesitate to make it my carry gun, or at least rotate it in.
I am so happy to find you and your vids on the P-225- I love this gun- I live in NJ and would love to get one of those surplus P-6 and a P-225 in the satin Nickel finish. Can't wait to watch your other videos-
I bought my 1988 P225 w/box at first because it’s a West Germany Sig. I don’t care about its lack of capacity it’s still a great looking/shooting pistol. I carry mine daily!
night sites are a gimmick in my opinion, if its so dark that u need night sites that means u should be using a flashlight or not shooting. if u cant see ur sights u cant see ur target... just a thought.
This handgun is no longer in-production. Even though it's not a popular pistol market. Cause it's only an 8-shot single stack 9mm. But very accurate in the shooting range. I found one at an affordable price. It took me over 20 years plus before I purchased one.
You need to take a good look at the P-239, it's been through the custom shop and designed for CC. The barrel is 3.6", single stack 8rds, SRT and night sights. It has the best trigger of any Sig I've ever fired, I bought my first Sig in 87 a 226. I've got a P220 made in 78 and imported by Browning. Current models like the Tac-Ops model and of course the 239. I'm pretty sure you'll wear out before this gun will and the 239 comes in 40 or 9mm. The 239 has grips readily available and Mec-gar carries mags for them. Btw I'm referring to the gen2 version of the 239, I'm guessing the DA is closer to 7.5-8lb pull and the SA is certainly under 4. I called Sig regarding the trigger as I've got a few that cost much more and yet the trigger on the 239 is far superior, Sig advised that since they're put together in the custom shop I must've gotten lucky and someone spent some extra time on the trigger. I'm glad, but if they'd spend that extra time on every trigger they'd put other manufactures out of business and we wouldn't mind spending a few extra $... Anyway I'd like to get my hands on a 225 A1 just to come out the difference.
Maybe it's just me, I don't like SIGs DA pull. SA is superb though. At least that's the way it is on my P220 & P226. While capacity isn't everything, is nice to have. Older P226s can be had at good prices also, if you mind some wear.
I have a Sig p6 (West German police variant of this gun, interchangeable) and just ordered some Pachmayr grips for about $40. Hard to find, but out there. Amazing gun for the price.
I also purchased mine (p225) new. Has a manufacture date of 2010 with night sights ... as previous veiwer stated it was a limited run and i got lucky when i found mine!! It fights my hand like it was made for it. Google Marshall grips... he makes gorgeous grips for this and other great sig's and other manufactors
@esh325 I wouldn't get too caught up in capacity numbers. I think people make the mistake of looking at capacity only without looking at the whole pistol design.
225 is 1.2in wide but a glock 19 is 1.18 and holds 15 vs 8 rds a cz75 compact is 1.2in with alloy grips 14 rd mags the kahr 9mm and .40 has the smallest grip good for very small womens hands most metal sigs are well made p250 is junk the older sigs have a poor finish and are prone to rusting wish i got a sig p6 when they were 250$
This is an accurate dependable gun with intuitive function placement. If you need the extra rounds try joining a league where you shoot on the move so you become more accurate negating the need for more rounds.
I'm selling two of my guns that I don't use any more and picking up a west German police version p225. The money leftover will be for more magazines and ammo lol.
If I was too buy a Sig, it would be either the P225 or P229 in 357. SIG I would get, mostly because of my small hands, meaning that single stack frames and somewhat compact handguns are best for me.
Do you still have this gun.? Just picked up new model recently it’s been absolutely stellar. The model is difficult to find magazines. Other than that a few more rounds and shooting it more I may carry it .I have nothing but good to say about this pistol the trigger, reliable , great sights . K
I just purchased my own P225, and there is something that you pointed out repeatedly that doesn't always fit. Magazine size, I live in California, under whose laws I am limited to a 10 round capacity at most. So an 8 round clip isn't really that much smaller. So from the perspective of a Californian, that's not really a drawback.
My first SIG was a '92 W German made P225, I bought in 1995. Once you have a solid gun like a SIG, plastic just feels cheap. Since then I've acquired a frosted nickel P226 ... fucking beautiful handgun!!!
really enjoy your videos, short and straight to the point. how is the slide stop on the sig for leftys? is it easily reachable with the index finger? keep up the good work!
@huguenot67 I've never had any muzzle flip issues with sig pistols. If you look at my rapid fire vids with the SP2022, muzzle flip isn't really an issue at all. A lot of the time, I think the technique needs some polishing for certain folks. I've noticed that many folks at the range really don't pay attention to how they are gripping their pistols.
I got a brand new p225, I guess it was a limited run in the united states about a year ago, 500 or so of them. I have the night sights I love the lack of safety features too, less things to fail and less things to get in the way of a person with advanced skill in handgun usage, and for someone who knows how to secure a gun from kids and idiots.
@esh325 speaking from experience a CZ is the hardest gun to find a gunsmith to do work on it. Got rid of mine and bought a G17. Also the sp-01 phantom I had ejected spent rounds rearward towards the shooter. I was told by CZ that this is a inherent problem with this model. Not fun getting hit with hot brass in the face. Although sig is good it is fat. Just MHO.
good review. been eye ballin these on gunbroker for a while. figure I'll bite the bullet and purchase one. good review and thanks for the info regarding the mags
+Texas Slinger Sig just released a video today on youtube announcing they are bringing this back and calling it the P225-A1 I love mine, hopefully the new ones are as good as the west german versions.
+JinkxSoldga $1k. Are you efing kidding me?! I spent 400 out the door on mine. $700 on my elite carry p220. Who's gonna pay $1k for a single stack?! Thank though anyway.
@ZombieMasterEdd25 Sigmas are great little handguns, but they don't come close to the ergos of the sig lineup. The P225 has the Sigma beat when it comes to ergos, trigger, and accuracy. For a budget choice, the Sigma is great, though. I've seen some still on sale for 299 dollars. Can't beat that for a Glock-like design.
I live California. The P6 is legal here it still shows on the DOJ list but, the strange thing is Sig doesn't make either the P6 or P225. Do you know the difference between the two guns
Well if your talking the difference between 13 and 8 then the argument is moot. Personally if you can't hit your target in 3 to 4 rounds then you need to go back to the range.
+jim harbin There are 2 versions, the P225 is the american version and doesn't have the deformation spur on the end of the hammer. The german models are referred to as the P6 which do have the deformation spur. The P6 also has a heavier trigger pull.
well sig just put their new p225 on their web site, and its about $1,200.00!!! go figure.they are now showing to much of the pistol, just a right side and left side view.
Infamous Biggz Your safety is your finger and brain. The trigger in double action is ten pounds. You have to want to pull that trigger for it to go off. After you chamber a round, you safely decock the hammer (you can safely lower it because of a firing pin block) and then holster it. When you pull the trigger, it cocks and releases the hammer (hence the "double action") and then all of your follow-up shots are in a light 4.5 pound single action where the slide cocks the hammer. All you have to do is release it. If you know what you're doing, a safety just flat-out isn't necessary on a DA/SA pistol.
I have had my P225 since Oct. 28 1988. I will Never sell or let this pistol out of my hands. I have enjoyed the slim design for carrying. It never has failed me. Many Many rounds through. Dependable, oh yes. I am a Sig fan, but I enjoy others as well.

the grip on this pistol is everything. i was upset when my dept went to the 228 replacing this gun.
I just bout this pistol about 3 months ago. I love it. I carry it as a conceal pistol n ive had no problems. Excellent gun, n wife loves it too

I wish Sig-Sauer would bring this handgun back to the market.
Another good reason to get this one is to be different then everyone else on youtube, rarely see something unique or original in terms of firearms.
The pro mag magazines I own run flawlessly in my p225. I have more than 1k rds through my p225 w/ pro mags & I'd trust my life with them. Pro mag makes quality stuff, but "your Milage may vary."

P225 A1 is out my friend has it and it's a beauty.
This was the personal carry gun of choice of Mike Ehrmantraut in Better Call Saul, season 2. He came by it in season 1.
Good review, no frills, straight talk, no bs, thank you.
Thank you! I was gifted one and i wanted more info on the gun. You were informational and clear. I appreciate you!

Great for cold weather. The huge trigger guard is fantastic for people wearing heavy gloves.

Another excellent, to the point, review. Super job.
I'm picking one up, but it is the P6/225
I got my p-6 few years ago. Love it! My go to carry

It would be a good sidearm to small stature male/female. Very good for concealed carry purposes. I shot one way back in 1992. It was very accurate.
my local gun store had over twenty of them a year back and was selling them for $325.00 , the were all used and imported from over seas police dep
Have one on my hip as I type this. Have another one in the safe. Great pistols.
@esh325 I wouldn't get too caught up in capacity numbers. I think people make the mistake of looking at capacity only without looking at the whole pistol design.
225 is 1.2in wide but a glock 19 is 1.18 and holds 15 vs 8 rds
a cz75 compact is 1.2in with alloy grips 14 rd mags
the kahr 9mm and .40 has the smallest grip
good for very small womens hands
most metal sigs are well made p250 is junk
the older sigs have a poor finish and are prone to rusting
wish i got a sig p6 when they were 250$

Use to own this gun in the uk untill the ban. I loved it but seem to jam a lot with hand loads. No problem with Factory Ammo.
UK in Decline Correction: hand loads suck.
I am ENTIRELY IGNORANT. what ban?
Classic and dependable, that is why I will never part with mine. Great video review and keep shooting!
my first Sig was a p225 back in 1992
My first SIG was a '92 W German made P225, I bought in 1995.
Hogue slip on grips fit nicely. Use the Hogue grip for the Glock 19.
I picked up a P6 about a three weeks ago , it needed cleaning bad so i did and put it up . I'll shoot it sooner or later.
@huguenot67 I've never had any muzzle flip issues with sig pistols. If you look at my rapid fire vids with the SP2022, muzzle flip isn't really an issue at all. perfect for reduced capacity states c.c.w.thaks miller god bless god speed...
Great review. Thanks a lot 👍
If you change the sights, can you do a video and review please
IMO, still one of the finest single stall all metal handguns. The Gen 2 P225 is meh…. Gen 1 all day.
i would love to have this pistol as my first handgun i buy... i feel i would be vary happy with it
The gun came out in 75 because of the 72 Munich Olympics terrorist attack. The police were using the then very common in Europe 380.
good review. been eye ballin these on gunbroker for a while. figure I'll bite the bullet and purchase one. good review and thanks for the info regarding the mags
+Texas Slinger Sig just released a video today on youtube announcing they are bringing this back and calling it the P225-A1
I love mine, hopefully the new ones are as good as the west german versions.
+JinkxSoldga $1k. Are you efing kidding me?! I spent 400 out the door on mine. $700 on my elite carry p220. Who's gonna pay $1k for a single stack?! Thank though anyway.
+Texas Slinger Agreed, just looked it up on sig's website, I'm sure that MSRP will come down when they don't sell any ;) $650 would be tops
Good video - totally agreed!
finally a good reveiw on this gun!! my thing i cant find one of these anywhere. can you help me out with a good website to find one.
Outstanding review! is this still legal in CA? Bigtime want it.
Hey miller difference between this pistol and P6? maybe could give us a review on an old P6 Sig. Thanks
I got my 225 brand new in a gun shop about 8 months ago.
John Herrin how much was a new one?
Pachmayr grips offered #03113 $42.00 wraparound style made especially for this pistol.
lolol
the lollipop sight
i never thought of that
@huguenot67 When compared to a Glock it is a little higher, but due to good design, it doesn't effect recoil and handling at all.
I live California. The P6 is legal here it still shows on the DOJ list but, the strange thing is Sig doesn't make either the P6 or P225. Do you know the difference between the two guns
Phil Jones my p-225 is a p-6
Y'all, this is an original P225, NOT the Classic Carry P225-A or the new P225-A1.
Where can I find magazine for this gun?
hey miller, just curious how old were you when im joined. Im 18 and i just got in not long ago. (Army National Guard)
can you do a cleaning video for handguns? Keep up the great videos :)
Im thinking about trading my Glock 22 Gen three for one of these. Whats your opinion?
How come Sig-Sauer won't bring this handgun back into production?
Jerry Wings German production
Great video. Great gun!
i like a single stack pistol over a double stack pistol
Avoid +P+ in a 225 for the simple reason it will cause the slide to cycle so fast it may not pick up the next round...
$599 with 3 mags new in Spring 2019
@isellchickens To me, the P225 feels better in hand.
is it possible to tell me the length of your recoil rod in mm??
Rod is 7mm. Braided spring is 11mm
How about Mecgar mags?
What is the advantage of a SRT unless your gun is a DAO?? Who the hell has a DAO P225?? Reset isn't an issue when shooting SA.
How much was it
It is 5.2" in height not 6"
I tried and held the Sig-Sauer P-239/9mm. It does not appeal to me at all. But that is just my amateur personal opinion.
Jerry Wings I have one also, but it feels fat in the hands compared to the p-225
Pachmayr offers grips for this pistol. #03113 $42.00 wraparound style.
Only people who can't shoot guns need an excessive amount of ammo to hit anything.
Well if your talking the difference between 13 and 8 then the argument is moot. Personally if you can't hit your target in 3 to 4 rounds then you need to go back to the range.
The poor mans version of the 226.
NO, just the compact version of the P226. there's nothing "poor" about it.
you change the hammer?
+jim harbin There are 2 versions, the P225 is the american version and doesn't have the deformation spur on the end of the hammer. The german models are referred to as the P6 which do have the deformation spur. The P6 also has a heavier trigger pull.
well sig just put their new p225 on their web site, and its about $1,200.00!!! go figure.they are now showing to much of the pistol, just a right side and left side view.
+jim harbin I don't expect that msrp to stay that high for very long
I'll stick with my P6
my P6 was $400.00, and shoots just as good or the same as myP229r.
is that the german surplus one ?
No safety?
Thanks alot! I figured that much just never came across a weapon like this before. Also I was asking for a friend who just purchased one.
Infamous Biggz Never seen a DA/SA before? Where are you from? Lol they're my favorite pistol design.
It's true. You're NOT going to accidentally pull the trigger (unless you've cocked it like an idiot)
No safety
Pay 200 for one?
crippled091 I bought mine for $300.
