I remember going all out on the original trying to get perfect scores. Over and over and over. Such a great premise, crying out for a next gen remake. Mildly depressing that it's 20 years ago now!
The OG was a genuine masterpiece of its time. I was obsessed as a 12 year old - it was brutally difficult and stressful but so incredibly rewarding as a result. And the physics were unparalleled. However, nothing drove me up the wall more than falling off a cliff or crashing and dying in a horrendous fireball and being asked the incredibly pass-agg question "Where were you going?!" from the asshole director. It made me want to reach into my TV and smack him.
Recently fired my 20 year old PS2 back up, went and bought a copy of this game just like it was 2003 again, and my god......this game still pisses me off
Okay now since you actually mentioned BeamNG, I just had to comment. Stuntman quite literally changed my life. I was absolutely fascinated by the realism and the mechanics of the cars, the damage model in particular which for back then was top notch (imho GTA V still has that kinda damage model lol). Fast forward 20 years and I am a full time BeamNG movie producer. Just like with Stuntman in 2002, BeamNG fascinates me for the exact same reasons: Great physics, the realism and oh .. the movie making capabilities. It all began with Stuntman 20 years ago though... I recently played through Stuntman and managed a 100% completion career while using the in-car cockpit camera. Took about 6.5 hours overall. The Microlite level in Conspiracy I’ll maintain is still the hardest level in the game to get a 100% on.

I used to have my own obstacle course races in the stunt constructor and had a points series for all the different vehicles. Nowadays i pick it up about once every 18 months and have some fun with it, but I was really hankering for a full career campaign again.
So comforting to see other comments of: stressful, perfect scores, over and over and difficult. I feel you. This game literally gave me night terrors of revving engines when I was a kid. Still, one of my favourite games and well ahead of its time. Safe to say, I'll never pick it up again.
I will never forget when the original Driver dropped...I can only remember a few other times I have been GLUED to a screen like that. Nothing else felt like it at the time. I remember thinking it would be so cool (but obviously impossible) to be able to get out of your car! That'd be like two games in one! hahahah
Man I loved these games, the first way more than the second but it was still good. I grew up playing the first, it inspires me to make games and movies with this style. Hopefully one day we’ll get a remaster

I've been introduced to Stuntman Ignition first thanks to my cousins and after some time, i got interested how did the first title looked like. The game's are cool and enjoyable to play. It's kinda annoying that we don't see these kinds of racing games around online.
despite the difficulty levels, stuntman and ignition had me satisfied with learning precision driving in it I can say variety did strong for that series, can say compared like a Rally games but movie making lol
I've played lots of racing games but Stuntman for PS2 remains the most original and fun. It's unique and... very difficult at first, completing all the scenes with 100% was terrible. An extreme level with the snowmobile, another with the tank and finally the impossible scene with the blue "frenchized" Lotus/Saleen supercar!
it was one of the arena stunt shows that made me lose it a couple of years ago. i literally lost count of how many times i attempted a stunt, then when i got it right, my reaction was literally "what the hell did i even do differently? i'm just allowed to pass now?"
The key on that level is to let off a bit and make sure you land with all 4 wheels on the platform and you can bounce off much more easily. It's definitely the most difficult scene in Toothless in Wapping.
I just dusted this off and fired it up for a trip down memory lane. I never realized this game was "unbeatable" - It was unbelievably frustrating at times, but I did beat it back in the day. I remember really struggling on the tokyo level for some reason.
I would have chosen The Professionals over Minder for the Capri, John 👍😁 And sadly, I’m old enough to remember both (and The New Avengers (ask your dad 🤣)) when they were first on. Keep up the good work.
I loved the original, I got pretty far before I had to return it. Currently playing the sequel since I never got that far in it and Xbox gave it to me for free
I usually don't want remakes. But this is one of the few games that a remake could fix the small issues. Like loading isn't instant. So restarting a stunt (which happens a lot) does take a while. Like imagine if super meat boy's deaths weren't instant. The limitations of the ps2 has some objects that aren't all destructible. Like if you have a fence you need to break through, only a certain section is breakable. The rest is indestructible. The control scheme isn't ideal. It's the old school face buttons are accelerate and reverse. You do have gradual control cause the face buttons were analog, but not ideal. Using the triggers of today would be so much better Frame rate could be better. The game can run in the 20s That being said. The physics, level design and general design is still fantastic. They haven't aged a day

This was an absolutely tremendous game. Mercilessly difficult but such a good game.

To me it was the italian canyon ride with the Ferrari...I still have fkn nightmares.

I beat this game when I was 12 but it took me weeks. One of the hardest games I’ve beaten.

I am proud to say that I beat this game. I loved it, even though I raged pretty hard most of the way through.
It’s a great game but I prefer Ignition. Ignition has a more manageable difficulty and is more fun to play imo.
