Thing is when Bumi say's typical airbender tactic it actually means something Bumi is the one man alive who actually can remember airbender's and how they defended themselves
🔝Hello👋 congrats

omg
Yeah that was probably supposed to be one of the clues to aang as to who he is.
I died laughing at Danny saying "I love how wise and sage like Bumi is~" Then 180s when Momo's mentioned with "NO HE DOES NOT NEED MOMO YOU CRAZY OLD GEEZER---"
Momo stole Danny's girlfriend confirmed
i was drinking water at the time, and its late at night
@@cadenhaslem6942 I'm so sorry
They literally should have had an episode where sokka and katara experience grass and the ground for the first time
That woulda been SO cool
I saw a post once about how they shouldn’t know what doors are because the igloos/buildings they lived in didn’t have doors (on hinges). It cracked me up.
@@bhelliom3from overanalyzing avatar
Wait, wtf. That wall just moved @@bhelliom3
The arctic does have summer. The snow does melt even if the ground stays frozen. We get scrub grass and lichen. As for doors, there are two kinds of shelter, one which is made from hide, which has flaps and the second is igloo, which does have a door for really bad snowstorms specifically. you can’t just build an igloo whenever, the conditions have to be right for it so there has to be a back up. there’s also a third kind that I’ve seen which wasn’t typically used and is never used now which is longhouse style made with a whale’s spine and ribs support
The fact that Bumi is literally a direct translate of Earth (specifically the planet) in another language makes Danny's comment about how similar Rocky and Bumi is a lot funnier
Which language?
12:55 When I watched this at the age of 9 I was *floored* . Avatar really did just grab me by the shoulders, looked me dead in the eye and said "Sometimes, people just suck."
Honestly, a very valuable lesson for kids to learn.
Yup. And more often times than not people suck in general
I never considered how bittersweet it is for Bumi and Aang to meet
I can't imagine how sad Bumi was upon hearing the avatar had vanished assuming he was killed.
@@AttackRunRepeat I think he would be more upset with the air nation genocide seen as he didn’t know any was the avatar at that point
He must have realised Aang was the avatar when he recognised him.
I notice people seem to take kataras grieving her mother kinda lightly especially for her being like 14. She brings it up a lot but I think she is just trying to relate to others, at least most times🤷🏾♀️
Yeah, I mean I think that's katara's usual strategy for things like this. She tries to connect things back to her own experiences in order to empathize, it's how she connects with people.
@@raquelabril9721 *Not to mention she was 4 when it happened. It's been only a decade, the lost still be pretty dramatic for her*
@@kyojurorengoku730 Let's not forget that her mother died because she was covering for Katara
My one peeve with it is she always says “my mother”, rarely “our mother”, even when she’s around Sokka
This is why I love avatar, the writers truly thought out their world and how each action would realistically happen in our world. At first this world seems very simple but the further you go into it the more detailed it becomes.
Aang meeting his childhood friend must have been so traumatic like… he is 12, imagine meeting one peron you know after a nap and theire your friend +100… I would have left the country too
I just realized why Katara is a but on the annoying side and it's that she's a kid who after caring for Sokka and the other water tribe kids she believes she's mature enough to deal with the situations she encounters
also she's desperate to connect with her peers because there weren't any other than Sokka in their village, and i think that desperation can come off as annoying? I don't know if you had anyone that acted too friendly with you/trying to be your friend as a kid and it's just uncomfortable, i think it's kinda like that too.
This might be a stretch but I never realized that that fire nation soldier that made that mocking line of “fire, it’s sometimes so hard to control” might’ve been foreshadowing Aang trying to learn to bend fire before he was ready
Yo thats so cool. Don't know I'd that was intentional, but it is still a cool detail.
That also crossed my mind watching that scene on here. It crazy what semi-forshadowing they have in this series. Just like bumi telling aang to think like a mad genius that Danny pointed out in the previous episode.
Fun fact, presumably Iroh is already a While Lotus grand master at this point and has been for a while.
Danny, you are missing something very important yet very simple about Appa and Momo. Appa is the gang’s lazy old dog, and Momo is their clueless cat. I’m serious, I noticed it recently when I watched and realized that Appa acts just like my senior dog before he passed, and Momo acts just like my cat. You really notice it in Tales of Ba Sing Se

The fire nation prison ships, or just the fire nation technology in general is one of my favorite aspects of the world design for some reason, every time someone in a show is stuck in a fire bender boat, prison, blimp, etc, everyone in that scenario is handicapped severely. For example, usually in shows, groups of enemies are fodder, but for the fire nation, each character can only take out a few at a time, they get absolutely trampled against large groups of soldiers, for Aang, the walls are too cramped for him to just air bend out of and escape; for Katara , water bending takes longer to cut through steel, and while she’s in the structure itself, there’s rarely any water she has outside of her flask; for Saka, there are very few places where he can apply his tactics while he’s in enemy territory, and for Toth, steel still overpowers plain earth, and even when she learns metal bending, it feels incomplete and janky, and the vibrations of the machines affect her senses. It’s a really cool environment in the story, that causes characters to use their brain way harder in that scenario, while also used to convey the threat of the fire nation, it is so good

oh yee i didn't even think about this before, but it isn't just the firebenders who are hostile to the other nations' people but their environment too!
From *Sky Bison* to *Mike Tyson*

i was just about to make a post about that joke, it was funny af
That "I heard cowards float" thing, spoken by this Keith David sound-a-like? Hits SO FUCKING HARD and nobody ever comments on it. SHIT. That is HARDCORE.
RIGHT
Your statement about cutting off a piece of their spirit is such a great way to put it, they mention I can't remember if it's this episode or in season 2. But they mention how important being connected to the earth is for earth benders not just because without it they don't have their bending but also because it's like a piece of them is missing, a vital piece of who they are had been taken from them.
My favorite was season 3 because of Zuko realizing he was an absolute asshat and how trust is earned and just because you say sorry doesn't make the things you've done go away.
I'm still convinced Katara and Haru had a thing. EVEN IF IT WAS ONE EPISODE I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL
In defense of the sugar thing, they're literally called "sugar crystals"; sugar is technically made up of very tiny rocks lol
I am sick and partly depressed, but seeing this video pop up in my feed instantly brightened my day and made it better
get well soon
Get better king. Any member of Danny's community is family to me! 👑👑👑
Damn I’m just sick
I know you are experimenting with doing the whole show but I think I speak for everyone when I say we want your full deep dive on all three seasons
Definitely speaking for me
Yesssss
And then doing Korra after S3 of atla
@@Joshua-yf5mh yes, I love korra too!
13:40 when i saw it as a kid, lesson i took away from this scene was that old people lived enough and if they get in trouble, it's natural selection.
Took me a while to realise the actual lesson intended here
It's amazing how the most memorable episodes are from the start. Then of course the Brave Soldier Boy, all time favorite. Can't wait till we get there.
A collab with Overanalyzing Avatar would be so much fun to watch, I think your sarcasm and his analyzing would be an amazing combo
🔝Hello👋 congrats

When you first started this series, I was concerned about what you'd bring to the table to an older series that has been analyzed so many times. However, I've loved your commentary and you've even made me think about parts of it that I've never considered before. Props to you man!
God, season 1 is so good. I love the subtle worldbuilding that you get in every episode.
It's always struck me as interesting that Aang didn't anticipate that Bumi was the king, or at least Bumi's kid. This means Bumi wasn't in the line of succession before Aang disappeared, so how did he get to be king? WHAT DID BUMI DO?!
From what I know, I think he got to be King because he was the greatest earthbender of his generation. And I think he was considered the greatest because he was the most creative about it.
Bumi did that Coumi and took the throne, probably.
I started cackling when he said “ i’m about to go from sky bison to Mike Tyson”😂
You know, I think a lot of people talk about how katara has been parentified by the war, but it's interesting to note that sokka has as well. You see the cynical and realistic role he takes on to counter katara's idealism and try to always instill the reality of the situation. There's also the fact that while often he's shown failing to gather food for the sake of the joke, because of the way that the gaang seems to wait for and expect food from him, it's implied that when they aren't near a town he is usually the one who's gathering it and has presumably been successful before. He's also usually keeping the gang on track.
God I love listening to this man talk about things! Also my favorite parts are the bloodbending arc or when Aang and Zuko get taught by the dragons. It really flips your perspective on how we’d viewed water and fire bending up until those points
I love the deep analysis he does and talking about how avatar does it write when other shows don’t
T and then flips and goes “D*** IT MOMO STAY IN YOUR LANE”

Danny has this amazing ability to make me want to rewatch every single show I watch him react to
Imagine if Toph was on that ship figured out metal bending and then taught some of the other earth benders on the ship to metal bend and just take over the ship
I mean given the way Aang got the Key I imagine an Earthbender would be able to accomplish it too. Maybe its an Earthbending training room normally.
Avatar is such an anime, even the old men are all secretly badass.
Please do not stop these videos my man! Book one is good, but book two and three are just absolute fire and I n e e d to see you react to them. You bring up so many good points and point out so many things that some people never noticed before, including me and the fact that Haru's dad struggled to make that wall of coal after all those years.
Keep up what you're doing man!
Even though I have watched countless other reactors that watched AtLA, you still manage to add a lot of discourse to the show that is not only new, but also really interesting! I think the show is deep and has a respect/appreciation for not only their audience, but for the story and the characters themselves. Also, even if the intentions of certain scenes were not meant to have as much depth, it is still hell of a lot of fun to analyze/interpret it yourself beyond what the writers considered :D
Not gonna lie Katara’s interaction here (and later with Jet) about her mother feels more emotional because of the quiet hurt you can hear behind her words
"HARU DO YOU THINK YOU'RE TALKING TO" never fails
I honestly forgot just how often Katara talks about her mom so early on 😂. I honestly thought it wasn’t this much
@dannymotta this you?
@@TheArtSmith23 yes man
It wasn't. It's only 6 times
I am living for this ATLA re-watch
Same
"Sky bison to Mike Tyson" is wildly funny 😂
The bit about harus dad struggling to bend made me think of the live action move where like 4 earth benders moved a rock really slowly towards the enemy
I think it's so funny how
Rewatching the show everyone gets like "... Katara has one line in season 1-"
Like i love the show to bits
But holy heck sometimes I get like Danny
Also i will use the phrase
"Shut up, it is and here's why"
Just woke up from my sleep paralysis demon stepping on my head and needed something to watch with all my room lights on to not go back to sleep too fast and wind up in the same situation. Can always count on one of your vids for a good laugh.
Danny is the only reactor iIve ever scene get into the implications of Earth Benders being able to bend sugar.
And it better stay that way

"No good deed goes unpunished"
Sugar is actually a type of biomineral
I love how the Coal foreshadowed lava bending the same way meteorite post shadows metal bending.
To be fair to the MCU Spider-Man, while it did take him a few movies to stop being selfish, but in Homecoming, he started by thinking he should be apart of the Avengers, but by the end he has realised he needs to be the friendly neighbourhood hero, having taken down his first real supervillain who was also the Dad of his Crush.
Then in Far from Home he has just came back learning his second father figure has died and he has just come back after 5 years having been erased (Note he was the only the one to anticipate his death) and he's only a teenager, so I think it's fair he gets a break, then he gets manipulated into giving someone who seems a lot more experienced than him, basically a superweapon entrusted to him by his dead Father figure and the Saviour of Earth, so the pressure was on, and he kept getting manipulated by the grown ups around him, then at the end of the film he losses his secret identity.
Finally in No Way Home, he is being hated in by probably millions who think he's a murderer and is being assaulted by them as well as a major news company, then he's also lost all of his hopes for the future due to it, by not getting on to college. Then while trying to fix everything, mostly for his friends and family's sake, he unintentionally let's loose a lot of villains from across the multiverse, which is most Dr Strange's fault, then one of the villains he released kills his Aunt, his only remaining blood relative, after which he chooses not to kill the villain and save him instead. Then he gives up everything to save the multiverse and literally has no allies to speak of, no money, and literally has to start his life over.
Throughout the movies he constantly tries to do the right thing, ignoring his own wants to do so, and if being childish means being positive and making fun of situations, that is who Spider-Man is at his core.
I really hate how far I had to scroll just to find a comment like this, because it boggled my mind how off track Danny was about MCU Spider-Man. I love Danny, he's an incredibly entertaining guy, but he sometimes throws a curve ball by either a wild misunderstanding or bonkers hot take
As someone who works on a male Alzheimer's/dementia unit. Crazy old man strength is totally a thing.
I like the balance of the show teaching us that some people in the earth kingdom suck, and some in the fire nation don't (old man in the jet episode).
I can’t wait for you to re-watch season two and three after season one because season two gets even better and I feel like season three has its moments
Not me yelping with Joy at more of this avatar stuff so happy rn

I just love knowing that after a day at work, no matter how bad it was, one of Danny's videos can always brighten my mood. Especially now that you're watching one of my favorite childhood shows 😁. Thank you for all your hard work on these videos, especially during the holiday season.
Danny is really out there composing a now hour-long love letter to this show, isn’t he?
one thing about katara is that she was ALWAYS down for a bit
Season 3 is pretty fantastic, can't wait to see you react to it

Honestly the background has a comforting feel to it. Sometimes feeling like you're just hanging out at home with a friend is nice
17:18 Aang is I.Q. 2000 when it comes to figuring out combat
Katara is literally from a village where everyone says whatever they want.
Season 2 is mostly good from the drill on.
Its actually nice watching you revisit a show you love. Seeing you have the perspective of someone who has already finished the series is so refreshing. You get to appreciate all the wonderful things that make ATLA such a great show. Its amazing how many things you can pick up PER WATCH. The show is just that dense.
Every time I go back and watch Avatar or hear people talking about it, I remember how practically perfect this story is. Every episode offers character development, plot advancement, foreshadowing or worldbuilding, even the goofiest ones. It's mature without losing the humour and fun, uplifting without being in your face, and the characters are fun and likeable even before they grow out of their flaws.
I enjoy the idea that Bumi is sporting studded leather cuffs under all of his outfits
But honestly you would think someone would have said the name of the literal king of city they are in by the time they had to guess it
I’d think with earthbending they would be able to bend any earth related element. So maybe there’s something like that in the candy? I’ve heard there’s edible chalk 🤷♂️
Have Covid right now so I can’t see anyone for the holidays so this cheered me up a lot today!! Great video as always!!
Those fire benders are lucky Toph wasn't with team avatar yet. She would have destroyed them

5:45 I feel like an Earth bender would be able to bend a pillar of earth to get the key or even block off the waterfall. Fire and non-benders would have the most trouble.

11:58 im crying 🤣🥹
Loving these Avatar vids - it’s always fun to see one of my favorite reactors watching a show I enjoy!!
I have to say though, I generally disagree with the thought process that Katara tries to make situations about herself. Don’t get me wrong, I understand where people have gotten that idea, but I think she’s actually just trying to relate to the people around her.
In the episode with Haru when she says ‘asking Haru not to earthbend is like asking me not to waterbend’, she says this because she truly cannot comprehend not using her bending. At this point in the series, Katara really isn’t very good at bending (due to not having anyone or anything to teach her, like the waterbending scroll that comes in later) but she still can’t imagine her life without it. It’s also important to note that she doesn’t know about the consequences yet.
Later when she’s talking to Haru about his dad, she’s trying to empathize with him by saying she’s been through a similar experience. Along with this, the only other time her mother’s death has been brought up was when Aang learned about the genocide of his people and he was in the Avatar state with the potential to blow them off of the mountain in his rage. Again, what she’s trying to say in that moment is that she’s been through grief as well, obviously it’s not to the same extent, but she’s trying to empathize and console Aang by saying she and Sokka can be hjs family now.
Lastly (this has gotten longer than i meant it to😅😅) Katara was 8 years old when her mother was 'taken' by the fire nation, and shes only 14 now, and in between that time I'm sure that there was no one that knew how to help her grieve, though they probably tried. Along with this, when you're a 14 year old who has lived many years in an isolated village with the only person your age being your brother, it can be hard learning how to communicate with others properly.
I know this doesn't always take away from how annoying it might be to some when she mentions her mom being taken, but I do think it's worth recognizing some of her reasoning outside of Katara making things about herself.
Anyways, i always love watching your videos to hear your thoughts about the different shows you watch, whether it's a video for an entire season or two episodes I always look forward to it when you post a new video. I also need to thank you for reacting to the first 2 episodes of Blue Lock because you are the reason I know it exists at all, and its just So Good.
Sorry for the long comment😅😅 I hope you have a very merry Christmas!!!

Bumi is like oogway, old and cooky but also wise and strong.

I did it! A few days ago I sent my present to Mr. Motta, I hope you like it Danny.
The trials were also tests if Aang knows other elements
paused my rewatch of the yuri on ice reaction compilation to watch this lol
Sky bison to mike tyson, amazing.
So stoked you’re keeping up the Avatar reactions!
Loving these so much, thank you for filming this for us. It is an early Christmas present 🎁
8:13 OK so technically sugar is just a bunch of tiny tiny rocks
Danny. Danny. Danny. Cabbage Theory.
The episodes are so good in season one because Dave Feloni in my opinion.
Also you hit on a good point that Avatar hints at and that’s this idea of spirit connection and the elements. If you notice the more spiritual societies in the avatar world have a higher concentration of benders. The air nomads and the sun warriors almost all are benders because they have a deep spiritual connection with their element. When the southern water tribe lost their connection with the spirits because their benders kept getting bend-napped no new benders where born in the south. It’s another way for the fire nation to wipe out a people to remove benders to take away their spirituality.
To be fair, a tornado and a hurricane would need different bending to work so Aang can't really make a hurricane yet
THIS BACKROUND TAKES ME FUCKING BACK!! I love the OG Danny Days vibes.
6:15
At this moment Aang knew
He fucked up
husband points out that Momo was carrying like, 3 times his own weight in spear/trident heads during Saka's 'John Wick' moment.
Why can earth benders bend so much more stuff than the other three.
Air: energy
Fire: lightning, rainbow fire, blue fire
Water: blood, swamp vines, ice, spirit bending
Earth: sand, lava, metal, rock candy, moon rock,
So apparently the cannon explanation for Bumi being able to bend rock candy is that
Crystals are rocks that are purer and more difficult to control
And rock candy are just crystals that are harder to control.
So all you need is enough time and dedication.
(It's worth noting that according to that same lore bones are confirmed to be similar enough to rocks for an earth bender with enough time and dedication to bend to their will.)
This series is the best, I have 3 of the Atla comics and they're all perfect.
when you said that Katara called Bumi nuts my first thought was the fact that she doesn't like nuts
i love avatar and you’re one of my new favorite reactors, been here since assassination classroom and when you watch stuff i like it’s always a good time, keep it up dude 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
One more thing, the frist one to fight is Haru who is new then his father who was protecting his son then others join in
I love your sarcasm lol
Honestly, as the number 1 teo fan, im just watching to get through the 8 episodes he is featured in lol
Why do I get attached to minor characters-
Your reactions to this are so much fun. I can't wait to see more!
13:00 I'm pretty sure that guy got 30 pieces of silver for turning him in.

Danny just being like "let's go bumi!" to "HE DOESN'T NEED MOMO YOU OLD GEEZER" is hilarious
your vids all ways make me feel better keep up the good work
Im so glad your keeping this series going omg
I’m pretty sure Earth benders can bend things that use rock-like minerals in them. Theoretically, this could mean they can bend salt.
