I love this brass, vocal version.
I think Nina Simone would approve of Rita's interpretation. For me it is an amazing performance.
i keep coming back for that fine trumpet solo, not to mention Rita, obviously. love Serra's solo too, and the whole arrangement is fine, and the groove...bravo

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Dude! Awesome! Love the Hymn To Freedom intro. Fun to see Rita Payes join you guys.
What a great message about us wanting and needing to be free! Especially at this time. A really accomplished performance from Rita with her lovely sultry voice, and the whole band too!🥇
SULTRY: Es decir, su maravillosa, seductora voz
The first time I heard this song is by the Derick Trucks Band which is quite rousing itself. But this is a small combo and they did it well. Rita is coming into her voice quite well and has a good ear for American jazz.
Beautiful especially starting with the slow intro...but if I ruled the world I would beg for the reincarnation of Dr. Billy Taylor at the piano! He wrote this beautiful hymnlike jazz tune that most attribute to Nina. Dr. Taylor died 10 years ago this month of December...he'd love joining you and I'd be in heaven just listening.
We'd be in heaven too! :-) And yes, we thought starting with the "Hymn For Freedom" by Oscar Peterson would sound good. And both songs were hymns of the civil rights movement wich Simone stood and fought for. Thank you Joseph for your comment!
Me encanta,no me canso de escucharos, muchas gracias

Well, this is another Nina Simone, and If you dont think of Nina or compare with her original version , this is a very fine song and arrangement, and it swings! Just don´t compare with Nina Simone, if you do you will find this a little bit to weak. It is always difficult to make a new version of a masterpiece.
Fortunately creativity has never been based on clichés.
I think Nina Simone would learn a few things from this young lady, she navagates the changes vocally like a horn player, wait she is a horn player
it's a pianoless combo but ...why? they don't use the harmonic freedom given by the abscence of a chordal instrument...so why? excellent musicians anyway....
I'm interested in your comment. He can tell me. I'm not a musician. Thank you.
@@Andreu_Rovira ehi ciao..greetings from the Tuscany coast
Sorry to bore again, but what a fantastic performance
I hope the audience was distanced and wearing masks?? Even so, why have (what seems like) an indoor performance in the middle of a pandemic?
Quizá desafinada y su aspecto descuidado ....UPS perdón pero me encanta Rita pero algo no funciona como antes, podría ser mejor.
Billie Holliday singing Nina Simone? No, sorry, it doesn´t work. Nice playing, anyway.
You've got cloth ears, Staffan old pal.
Nina Simone frequently covered other people's songs in a way quite different to the original. This is Rita Payes' version of the song and she and the band can do it any way they like. Comparisons with Nina Simone are unfair - this piece needs to be judged on its own merits. I like it. You don't have to.
@@robertvanruyssevelt7159 Ok, i admit, I was unfair. And I like Rita Payes singing and playing very much in almost everything. Maybe it just that I am to taken by Ninas original version?
@@peterread2245 I can take that :-)
@@staffanolofsson8201 I know where you are coming from. I was privileged to see Nina Simone in Ronnie Scotts in 1984. She had amazing presence and it was the most thrilling concert I have ever experienced. Rita Payes and her group are not in that league but nevertheless entertain!
