  • This was an interesting trip back in time to see how the early settlers of the Lindsborg, Kansas area began living off the land. It's a very primitive shelter dug out of the ground and local stones were used to build the walls and steps. A fireplace would have been used to warm the shelter as well as for cooking. I'm not certain of the exact age of this home but, another shelter in the area was built by a couple in the late 1860's. Back then, there was a lot more prairie and less trees. Since the area is known to have tornados, it was important to have a place to not only live but, to have some means of shelter for safety. Some of the large commercial crops you'll see growing in this area is wheat, milo and corn. #kansas #offgridliving #historicalplaces

Always cool to find places like this. Like the chisel marks on the stones. Nice narration. Hard to imagine how difficult it was back then. Good to see a video from you. Haven’t seen you in ages. Hope your well Brenda

It really is amazing to see how simply they lived at this time. They sure were tough and resourceful. Thanks for the comment. Great to see you too.

Good morning Paul. This was soo interesting to see where the early settlers would have been living in Kansas. After reading your description box about it, now I see where The Wizard Of Oz got the story from, the tornadoes of Kansas 😃
It makes sense for the setters to have a place like this, though it may be small, it would be good shelter with the walls built up, on the open prairies. That was really interesting and you were good to listen to.
Nice to be connected, see you soon 👍~ Anna

Good Morning Anna. I'm so glad you also found it interesting. I guess we all have a passion for history. When the wind blows in Kansas, you want a place to hide LOL. Thanks so much for your kind words and encouragement. It makes it all worthwhile to post these videos when you get the positive feedback. Yes...it's our pleasure to be connected too...
