Just got back from a week's whiting fishing and 100% agree, started with long shank, moderate success in hookups but hooked way more undersize, like at least 5:1. Switched to #2 circles, better hookup rate and more legals. Best bait was the pin bone strips from the filleting the whiting, the skin helps hold it well, so don't throw those away. I did manage 1 whiting on a Daiwa Double Clutch 75mm but couldn't repeat it, zilch on the SPs so I need to work on that.
Awesome vid. Gotta love some big KGW. Love your optimism about the weather at the start, It's nearly November and I reckon half of southern Australia is eagerly waiting for it to warm up. Lol
I can’t remember the brand man, but probably gamakatsu. Rod was a gomoku spin pe1 I lost it overboard so can’t check lol. The rod with the sol was an 8’6” ocean angler tansui. Great all round rod I use for lures normally. But the gomoku was great for micro jigging and bait for whiting
Hey mate. The squid outfit is a gomoku 2-3.5 egi And the other is an 8’6” ocean angler tansui, the most versatile rod I own. Does egi, bream and even landed several 85cm kings too
@@armanskinner9347 I have before, but I don’t bait fish much so don’t pre meditate buying bait. So if I decide to I’ll use a squid. But most of the time I’ll lure fish
@@outdooraussie6355 cheers mate. It’s a stessco 450 catcher. Great little boat. Take it inshore and off shore for tuna and kings regularly in good weather
Your filming is so good mate. Love the anti millennial theft device, haha. I got one too, keeps the car safe and sound :) All this beautiful terrain in your vids with so much seaweed always amazes me. Do you guys get kina over there at all. They seem to ruin things pretty quickly around here.
Haah cheers mate 🙌 yeah any deterrent aye. Lots of ribbon weed beds around inshore. We do have urchins. I stepped on one walking across rocks to go diving and my foot slipped in the hole and went straight thought my dive booties. Was plucking quills for ages. But I’m not sure what eats them as they seem to be under control with a depleted snapper stock and no one eating them
Bruh!!! here in South Africa we do the chokka stun differently. You go in with a head but first, followed up with the classic WWE jump/elbow crush/fall. then only do we go in with the karate chop. I think your method is more humane though.😁
Haha! Cheers bro! Glad you came across 🤙 tassie flyfishing is on my radar for sure. Not sure about the salt though… pretty chilly down there isn’t it? 😂

Yeah nice man. Circles are the go 🙌
I hook plenty in the shallows on lure but in deep. Something I’m trying figure out
Those circle hooks were what my mom used to catch whiting when I was a kid. Never used any other. I’ve done the same since. It’s never failed.
Their the goods aye
Love it. We never take bait when we head to Balgowan. Just a couple of squid jags.
Haha! That’s all you really need aye. Cockles just catch everything else and waste time
Fantastic mate. I froth because they taste so good. Such good sizes as well. Great work 🎣👌
They are tasty aye! And fun to catch
Looks like you ate well after that trip. I like the circle here as well when I take my son fishing. Rod holder fishing 😂
Easy way to fish when your occupied 😂😂
Love a good old ting video. Great vid.
Thanks mate. Now if I sussed them on lures I’d be wrapped

Thanks mate
Tasty! Nice one mate
Thanks bro
I gotta chase some tang this summer :) how fun are they!
Nice bro! Their a bit of fun. 🙌

@@AdriftFishing okay cheers mate. Shame about the Gomoku pe1! Looks like it has a nice action do you remember if it was 6'6" or 7" version?
@@fishinbite 6’6 man. I need to get another
Hey John that combo seems really good for working lures and jags. What kind of rod and reel is that?

Hey mate, that’s a stessco 450 catcher cc. Neat rig for all the varied fishing I do
Thank you.

Depending on the bite, yes they can work a treat.
True. I have found them to work really well

😂😂😂😂 well I used another blunt member to do the whacking. But that’s for onlyfans 😂😂😂
@@AdriftFishing hahahahaha.
Can’t beat a squid strip bait 👌
For sure! Not something I do often but when I do it’s a go too
Suicide hooks nearly as good as circles for whiting?
Which ones are suicide? Are they the almost circle hook ones.
Where are you? Doesn't seem like SA
😂😂 I know right. Yorkes man
@@AdriftFishing ah right, great video
@@troyg708 thanks man, glad you enjoyed it
Catch and cook?
Next time 🤙
I vouch for circle hooks ALL THE TIME. J's are just a bitch to remove sometimes.
Yeah man, circles just work. Every time. And corner of the mouth always
In regards of circle hook, what size mate?
Tbh I forget man, maybe size 6 or maybe 4
