    Alex & Mike review the LifeGlider Walking Aid. You're the perfect candidate for LifeGlider if your legs work fine, but you just can't walk very far or have a condition that affects your balance. Or maybe you're recuperating from an injury and need a little support as you regain your strength. The only other thing you'll need is enough strength in at least one hand to squeeze the brake for greater control.

    I have had MS for 25 years diagnosed at age 15 and I have always been able to walk. Thank goodness. Didn’t start having troubles with balance or anything like that until about 2016 thank God. I bought mine back in 2021 and was only able to use it for maybe two months but during that time I learned a lot about it how well it works on keeping you from falling I did not have my seatbelt in the right height. I had it in the lower setting, but it’s still kept me safe I Supermaned in it. Obviously, not meaning to. I change my treatment medication for my MS and just started standing today with just assistance and my goal is to get back into my life glider. Standing right now for 13 seconds.

    That is a great design! Kinda reminds me of the bouncy baby walker, but for adults. I may benefit from this. We'll see.

    I have one of these and it’s amazing a normal rollator style wasn’t suitable for me as I have weak wrists my only other option was a forearm walker

    I am a physiotherapist and i am using it in a nursing home. I can say this is the BEST device a physiotherapist can ever ask for !
    We will never worried and scared for client falling during walking exercise, and it reduce workload for us to take them to sit down to rest, they can simply half sit on the life -glider and rest. Easy to use, no special training needed, low-tech so our assistants can use easily. i wish i have hundreds of them and all elderly center should have this !

    I do find the brake difficult for my very arthritic hands. Also, I wish the width was not so wide. It is not that easy to maneuver through my house. I still think this is a great device even though I have gone back to using a walker these days given the width of my walker is easier to deal with. I have lent my LifeGlider to a friend with MS and she seems to think it is helpful.

    It’s a great alternative to the traditional front walker. I’ve always hated my walker because I couldn’t use my hands and it’s not very study and I huntch over. The Life Glider solves all these issues. Thank you for inventing this walker!!

    I wonder if anyone has tried to self modify with wider bike seat for heavier/wider people for increased comfort and usability?

    • @ellenseskin1436
      @ellenseskin1436 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s only available as it looks but if you go to a bike store they can replace the seat and put brakes on both sides so they work better.
      They are expensive - but if I didn’t have it, I would be stuck in a wheelchair forever.

    Medicare paid all but the copay my secondary insurance paid the copay . I got a rolater with seat and breaks. It didn't cost me a dime out of pocket.

    You guys are therapy assistants and yet used the term “wheelchair bound”? Really guys, I am a wheelchair user, no one is BOUND to their chair (I can spend all day telling you why that term is wrong on so many levels!). That’s a cool Walker though

    The walking assist is for assistance in walking. Adjust it to your hight and demonstrate it as it is intended to be used. If I had to rely on your demonstration I would be adjusting it wrong too. Second that is a walking aide and not a walker. Compare it’s price to other walking aides that provide comparable benefits. Your review is not helpful.

    My reservations are...
    1. It folds too wide across. Problem getting it inside taxi, or car.
    2. Bicycle seat! Really. If I had to use it long term, like walking all over a hospital, it would start to hurt my butt.
    3. It keeps you upright with a lot of pressure on your legs. If you have weak legs, and damaged knees. This is not for you. Bicycle seat won't help. And likely a sensitive skin elderly will chafe their inner thigh if used for too long.
    4. Brakes seem too hard. Arthritic hands, or an elderly with weak grips....no way.
    5. Have trouble turning it. I see it.
    6. Being upright, it becomes dangerous if you walk backwards.
    Why walk backwards? You use a different set of muscles. And if seated in an uncomfortable seat. Like a bicycle seat. No way. Even the belt won't help.
    7. Overpriced!

      I love my life glider the seat is not uncomfortable when it’s adjusted properly and it’s helped me to build up muscle strength in my legs while walking. I don’t feel safe using a traditional Rollator my. muscles are too weak. My next option was to be sitting in a wheelchair and pulling myself along with my heels to get along. I wasn’t ready to do that yet. This has been a lifesaver for me.
      Some of your complaints are accurate and some are not. As far as being too big and not fitting easily in a car you are correct it’s about as difficult to fit in a car as a wheelchair. That was my next option before I got my life glider. It is heavy and awkward for me to put in the car by myself. But then again I had difficulty putting a Rollator in the car by myself. I prefer to have someone putting the devices in the car for me. The break is very difficult to use. I’ve called and emailed the company and told them they need a break similar to what a Rollator has. When you have muscle weakness in your hands squeezing hard enough to put on the brake and push the little red lever in to set the break is nearly impossible. I thought having a seat between my legs would cause abrasions and be uncomfortable, but happily it isn’t. Last week my husband and I walked over 4 miles in Mazatlan when we were on a cruise. The next day when we got to Cabo San Lucas my legs were tired and my muscles burned from the workout. I haven’t had that could work out in a long time. Seatbelt is nice because it makes it possible for you to go hands-free which on a cruise ship buffet is a wonderful option. The only place I had an issue on our long 4 mile hike through the city of Mazatlan was on driveway swales. When I got to driveway swales I had to take a little tiny steps because the wheels turn in the direction of the street. Cobblestones were also an issue, I don’t care what mobility device you’re using cobblestones will be an issue. I love my life glitter and it’s worth every penny I paid for it. If it keeps me mobile and out of a wheelchair.

    • @ilovebrean
      @ilovebrean ปีที่แล้ว

      It takes a hell a lot of weight off your legs so the comment about weak legs is not accurate

    • @ellenseskin1436
      @ellenseskin1436 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont use the seat or the brakes. But if I didn’t have it, because of muscle loss and propensity to fall, I would be stuck in a wheelchair.
      Is it perfect? No. There are things I would change. But like I said, it means I am ambulatory.

      I suppose it could help some people with specific needs, but I would NEVER let my wife use one of these. If you're not moving on a nice, flat, even surface, like a tile or wood floor, that thing will catch on irregularities in the pavement and you'll faceplant. I've seen a small irregularity or a popped up seam on a sidewalk result in my wife being brought to a complete, immediate halt. It would also be difficult to get over those irregularities because you couldn't use a foot on the back to help pop it up.
