It's so weird to me because when the Witcher 3 first came out, people LOVED ciri and there was tons of talk everywhere about how hot she was. But now that she's becoming the MC it's a problem. Manosphere influence is on of the biggest toxic blights on this planet, because I can almost guarantee that this backlash was started by incel types that ingest that type of media on the daily like it's their validation pill.

The biggest challenge I have, Danni, is the voice change of Ciri from Jo Wyatt to Ciara Berkeley.... if CDPR could give us a proper explanation I think I could happily give the Witcher 4 a chance.... even if it was as simple as ... "Jo was unavailable due to other commitments and so, with this new 3 game series, we decided to use a different actress..." rather than leaving the gamer guessing

Before we get into the mechanics of the series, please consider Dudu - for one, whole, moment.
When Dudu mimics Ciri's appearance... Do you remember the eye?
    Serious question (really):
What would you need to do to Dudu, in order for his impression of Ciri to land at TW4's version of Ciri?
    Seriously.
Or, even just Ciri from TW3 - what do we need to add, to get to TW4?
You can get TW4 Ciri from combining:
1 part Ciri from TW3, 1 part Leshen, 1 part Frost Troll.
    I'm being serious.
Look at the bestiary and tell me that I'm wrong... I'll wait.
Honestly, though - faces aren't mythical...
_Beauty is a literal science;_ *It's down to math.*
Have you ever noticed how annoyingly good AI seems to be at creating attractive women?
    Yeah. Math.
And actually _look_ at what they did, to her nose, cheekbones and jawline (oof)
If you know anything about faces/genealogy - these 2 people *_hardly_* share an ancestry.
In this world, especially considering that dopplers exist, this person would _quite-literally_ *never* pass as Ciri. *_Ever._*
When I first saw the trailer, I assumed that it was a Leshen imitating Ciri and that the trailer was going to do a really cool scene where the camera panned and then there was ACTUAL Ciri standing across from the Leshen, about to finish it. :(
"Which part of her is ugly, her beautiful silver hair?"
Yeah, everyone always said Ciri in TW3 was hideous because of the hair... Thanks for paying attention lol
    >.>
Again, beauty is a math of proportions - and her nose, cheek bones and jawline have all been _grossly_ changed.
"She's supposed to be older in this versio-"
Dear God - how much gas station sushi would you need to eat, while living under which paint factory, over what period of time - to age in this fashion?
Actually, I can kind-of answer that:
Nose enlargement on this scale, is an actual medical symptom of a life-threatening illness. Seriously.
(Read: If this person were real, her face presenting in this way would be a *literal cry for help* )
    "proper facial bone structure"
Whether or not you're intimidated by Ciri, and Triss, and Yennefer - and most of the women in that game series - that doesn't mean that they weren't proportioned like a human beings.
    wow.
Dandelion in drag and makeup would - literally - look more like Ciri, _because his face is the same general shape._
Honestly, I'd be curious if we could somehow do a test with the faces like 20 feet away, and poll which is Ciri.
Objectively, she went from a 9 to a 4, and I'm honestly being generous by not saying a 10 to a 3 (because there's a serious argument to be made there).
I really don't understand how someone can claim to appreciate the character, while being okay with them doing this to her.

    • @iro6758
      @iro6758 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

And, as far as the mechanics go, both the fans and the character deserved:
_The Child of the Elder Blood: Part 1_
She was already an uber mage waiting to be trained by the lodge...
she already was good with a sword...
she already had the Elder Blood to explore...
She was already stronger than any Witcher.
What - exactly - does this character need to be a Witcher for?
Especially since we spent the last 3 games exploring what it is to be a Witcher...
Seriously, is she going to make herself barren in honor of her Father figure???
And let's forget what Yennefer said about the Elder Blood interacting with the Trail of Grasses potentially being world-ending.
And let's forget women in the trials, and let's forget adults in the trials and let's just forget everything - "because woman."
But we would have been able to explore the world as a woman, regardless of her being a Witcher - so I'm not sure why anyone is pretending that has anything to do with it.
This game reeks of the desperation that CDPR didn't trust this character to stand on her own.
      Hence: The Witcher, part 4...

With regards to it being woke...
The vast majority of that is going to be because of how the face was changed.
In the last 10 years, almost all major video games have featured female leads which were...
Well, apparently you would call them attractive, however - objectively - they're more like a 4.
AND they all behave like crappy men. All of them. (according to actual women)
The most notable, and earliest?, example of this was Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Look up the female model that they paid, then look at the character in-game.
I'd say that to pretend that those are the same person is ridiculous, but here we are with 2 blatantly different Ciri's...

(Either way, now is a good time for you to go look at the male version of Ryder for Andromeda, but note how he got scanned in perfectly - and his job resume will reflect this, whereas hers will not. interesting how her job does not depend, in any way, on an accurate resume. or her even being in the game, at all. super. duper. interesting.)
Read: I don't know what that woman was _actually_ paid for, but I'm sure I'd have loved to have been a part of it >.>
Same goes for the recent Spider Man game, and honestly almost every single other release (in the West, anyway).
The models are - blatantly, unequivocally - not paid for being models...
Which lets the "artists" draw whatever the Hell they want, which is usually a self-insert (See: Spider Man 2 - there are photos online confirming that it's a self-insert, which inherently confirm that the model was paid for something else. Which is fine, because the face they drew in the game makes men angry... such progress. )
Regardless of their reasons for changing the faces, this has - always - been accompanied by the crappy male personality.
      TLDR
The unattractive face is a very-strong signal that the character is going to have the woke personality.
BUT - in fairness, CDPR's trailers/media have always differed from their in-game models...
But also, in fairness, the characters in their media have always been attractive - until now.

It has nothing to do with her beeing ugly, it's about the lore.
Witchers are sterile. If Ciri is sterile then the elder blodline ends with her. Only a child of elder blood can save the world from the white frost ( The end of the world).
Elder blood opens a portal to a new world.

I will try to explain the reasons behind the complaints. I will obviously have to guess at some of this, but I'll do my best to be fair about the reasoning. And i hope that nothing i say comes across like an attack or anything like that. I am just trying to address the situation as emotionlessly and matter of factly as possible.
For example, the first complaint you listed isn't a complaint that i personally have, but i can guess why others do have that as an issue. The Last of Us 2. That is the reason, as far as i can see, for that complaint. The Last of Us 2 did a very tastless passing of the torch to the daughter character of the gamers beloved protagonist. Joel was disrespected in that game, and still to this day, people continue to dirty his memory. Joel was a man who loved his daughter and didn't want to lose his second, adopted, daughter. People understood that at the time, they agreed. To save Ellie, there is nothing anyone wouldn't do to make sure she was able to live her life. The Last of Us 2 comes out and tries to muddy the circumstances. "Joel is a murderer." "Joel didn't have Ellie's permission to save her." Let's ignore the fact that any loving parent would "Rambo" any building to save their child. People just believe the revisionist history told to them. "Joel didn't have her permission to save her"? The fireflies didn't have her permission to sacrifice her. She was never told she was going to die. She went into that building with plans for Joel and her after they left. Even when she was there with the Fireflies, they didn't tell her. So she was an unwilling sacrifice. Now, how is a father "supposed" to react in that situation? People to this day still say Joel was wrong...that leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths. So when they see, what just in a passing glance looks similar, they remember the Last of Us 2 situation and their knee-jerk reaction is to be upset. It doesn't mean that is how Geralt will be treated in the actual game, but gamers are fearing that it will be. Especially because The Last of Us 2 is so critically acclaimed for destroying a strong male father figure.
The second point you mention, "only men can be Witchers", that's the big one for me personally. It is insulting, to me, to do this... but I'll try to explain it using the current wider media push. In media today, men are seen as lesser beings. We are to blame for every bad thing that could possibly happen, and our very nature is seen as a corrupting force in the world. "Men are just defective women" is the general notion behind this. It is every. Movies, books, games, Tv shows, fiction, and real life. There is the constant drum beat of negativity aimed at men, for being men. The Last of Us 2 is just another example of it. Joel's fatherly instinct to protect Ellie is now twisted into being some selfish manipulative thing. An example of how that is done can be seen in tbe Witcher Netflix show. Henry Cavill was forced to quit the role of his dreams because the writers refused to stick to the source material. Henry was on set, fighting to keep things as close to the book as they could. How was Henry described after he left? Like he was a misogynist. Like him doing that was an attack driven only by his refusal to listen to women. I don't want to post links in your comments, but google Henry Cavill Misogyny and you'll see articles and Twitter posts calling him a misogynist. Why? Because he wanted to be faithful to the source material. There's even a Medium Article called "Henry Cavill's exit is the best thing to happen to the Witcher." In it the author says that Cavill was the worst part of the show. The best part? The women and the new gay Dandelion. This is just being seen as another attack on men, that is the reason for the strong reaction.
The Ciri is unattractive argument....that is a bigger issue than just this game. It's a gaming issue in general. Essentially what is happening is attractive women are being seen, by the people attacking men, as an example of misogyny. "Men only want to leer at women." "Women are only attractive so men can objectify them." This basic idea. So in response to this idea, game devs began making women more unappealing. The face model for Abby from the Last of Us 2 is very pretty, Abby is not. Does she have to be? No, but it's an interesting choice. Spider-man 2 for the PS5, Mary Jane....they....they really didn't have to do that to her face. Just taking the games face for a moment, the change to her face from the original game to the sequel...is offensive. The time difference between those games is about a year in game. So she aged like 2 decades in a single year, while her boyfriend Peter Parker de-aged about 1 decade. Now it looks like she's his mom, not his girlfriend. But then you look at her face model....and a trend can be noticed. Her face model is gorgeous. They deliberately changed her face to make her look she's in her late 30s early 40s...and her character is supposed to be 25. That's a choice. The Fable 4 main character's face, is....wow. Again compare it to the real face model. Mass Effect Andromeda's female main character's face...isn't horrible to look at, but compare it to her face model and it suddenly becomes an issue. The Asari in that game are an alien race of women who biologically change their appearance to suit the person or species looking at them. They look beautiful by default, that is the lore of them. In Andromeda, they...got rid of that. Alloy from the Horizon games, she suffered basically the same changes Ciri got. Now as this is happening and people take notice of it, they are labeled as crazy for complaining about it. Doesn't matter if the person complaining is a man or woman. Then Steller Blade came out. The reaction? Gamers loved being able to play as an attractive woman. The critics hated it because the character had an "unrealistic" body. Then the company behind the game released motion capture footage to show not only that they made the character as beautiful as her face model, but that the face model was the motion capture actress and that the body for the character was the same body the actress had.
In essence what is happening here is the people who go around accusing people of objectifying women and being misogynists are the actual misogynist. They don't think women can be strong without looking like a man. They don't want beautiful badass women characters. They want men in female clothes. They don't have to make these changes, they want to.
The game is woke....i agree with you on this one. The game is not woke. It makes perfect sense to play as Ciri, i wanted the next game to either be with Ciri as the Main Character or we move from the Geralt Ciri story and go to a different Witcher school where we could make our own Witcher. Not a massive in depth character creator, just something very basic. Skin tone, hair color, hair length/style, scars wherever we want them, and the ability to pitch our characters voice to be lower or higher. I'd even want to play as a sorceress.
Now to give the people calling it woke some credit, i know why they're reacting this way. It's because of the timing. This is happening while were in the middle of the woke tornado. This is just an example of wrong place wrong time. Same for the Ghost of Tsushima sequel. People are calling it woke for the exact same reason, it looks like it is. It looks like another example of pushing men to the side to focus on women. Making Ciri a Witcher definitely does not help that accusation. In my opinion just having Ciri and the main character doesn't make the game woke, but it definitely "looks" like it. If Ciri was just a Witcher in name only, people would have still complained, because as i said it looks woke, but the majority wouldn't have been bothered. Especially if respect was paid to Geralt in the process. Then it wouldn't be seen as replacement, just a daughter carrying on her father's legacy. A game where Ciri just had her Lady of Space and Time powers but was going around as a Witcher with the training from Geralt and knowledge from Vesemir would have been perfect. But they made her a Witcher.
Here's a question...would Geralt and Yennifer allow her to go through the Trail of the Grasses? Would Ciri even want to? Why wouldn't she use the medallion she took from Vesemir's pyre?

@@blackromeoKOK I had to step away from Christmas dinner to read and reply in peace 😅. Thank you for such a lengthy and detailed comment, I really enjoyed going through each point and I don’t find anything offensive at all, you’ve properly expressed a lot of reasonable ideas .
I’m still not over The Last of Us 2, Joel is one of my favorite game protagonists of all time and they did him dirty so I can’t be understanding when it comes to that but the parallel between the two games is pertinent if we’re discussing people’s reactions.
“They don’t think women can be strong without looking like a man.” - I actually like this sentence, it says a lot about the industry but also about what people are looking in a character. I agree with jt 90%. I won’t exemplify with Bayonetta since the game itself is fan service but if we look at aaaaallllll the other female characters in games who are supposed to be tanks or knights - they are wearing bodysuits with obnoxiously deep cleavages. It makes no sense to be dressed like that on the battlefield and it pisses me off that no one seems to mind or be true to “battle/war etiquette” when it comes to that. But male and female gamers are extremely different in what they expect from their gaming experience so, I suppose I understand. And indeed, the timing sucks, I’ve seen the other female protagonists that have “ruined women for men” and I’m not entirely happy with them either, I expected something else. I won’t be a hypocrite and I’ll admit that I didn’t like the female character in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The male Eivor was far more attractive than its female counterpart and I didn’t understand why they had to make her more male than the man himself. But it was a personal preference which doesn’t apply here because Ciri is pretty in my opinion and perhaps others see female Eivor beautiful.
As for your final question, I’ll reply truthfully. The answer is no, Geralt and Yen wouldn’t agree with her becoming a Witcher, not really. As for the other questions, I’m waiting for the game to explain itself because we need proper justification for the changes. I’m staying positive 🥲. I really wish we’ll get to talk again and thank you for the awesome comment, hope in the gaming world is restored!❤️

      @Lethalium I hope you had a great Christmas. 🎄
I can intellectually understand why you'd be frustrated with the state of women's dress in war or fighting games. But, particularly in fighting games, the fan service is generally mutual. I don't know how many skins there are for shirtless male fighters or male fighters with their clothes ripped. Even in anime, one of the most recognizable images is a shirtless Goku. Is it to the same degree as the fan service of women? Absolutely not. But male fan service is prevalent, too. Men don't complain about shirtless Ryu or shirtless Jin. Even Geralt himself. I vaguely remember a quest where he got drugged or drunk and then robbed, and you had to walk around shirtless or something until you found you gear again. It's really simple. Men and women like looking at attractive people. Doesn't matter if the people they're looking at are male or female. I like making my male characters attractive, same for my female characters. It's probably a lizard brain thing. 🤷🏾‍♂️
Now the female Eivor situation... that one is unique. Yes, there are people who find her attractive, and I'm confident in saying those people are typically Bisexual. Eivor and female Eivor are literally interchangeable. They have the same mannerisms, same speech pattern...well for the most part. Female Eivor is just a more feminine looking male Eivor. Then you add that she has a manish face and a fairly androgynous body type. That is the issue with the female Eivor. Essentially, she's just a guy.
All games like Witcher 4 and Ghost of Yotei can do at this point is weather the storm. People will complain about the wokeness because they're scared. They've... we've watched so many beloved franchises get decimated to please the woke agenda. These games have to prove they aren't going to do the same. People will be skeptical until they get their hands on it. It's the same for Grand Theft Auto 6. People are scared about that one, too. As a fan of Red Dead Redemption, both 1 and 2, I would love a Red Dead game where we play as a woman. That could be incredibly badass. But in this landscape, if that was announced, everyone would freak out....and I can't say I'd blame them. I wouldn't agree. But I wouldn't blame them.

      @blackromeoKOK 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

@Lethalium I just saw a meme as I hit enter saying how society wants men to dress is wearing a suit, but how men want to dress is in a trench coat like Dante from Devil May Cry. That reminded me of the fan service in that game. From shirtless Dante killing demons and eating pizza in Devil May Cry 3's intro cutscene, to Dante describing how he...pleasures a woman as he thrusts roses into a pillar to destroy it in Devil May Cry 4, to basically everything he did in Devil May Cry 5 that had women very excited to see Dante on screen. Dante, Ryu, Zangief, Geralt, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil 5 and his boulder crushing arms. Men don't look at them and say, "I have to look like that to get women/men to like me." They just see it as a power fantasy. They just fantasize themselves as the character. I have no context for this, but i assume the same is true for female characters.
I like playing as female characters because, honestly, I'd prefer looking at a woman to look at a man. But if I'm playing a guy, I don't mind him being some guy with an 8 pack on his 0% body fat body with watermelons in his arms that can bench press a small house. I don't necessarily want realism in games if it detracts from the fun. You mentioned the appearance of Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7... well, in Final Fantasy 6, there's a guy named Sabin who suplexes a train. That's what I want more of. Let Tifa suplex Ruby Weapon while remaining attractive without having to water her down because she has big boobs or whatever. Don't know if you've noticed that or not, but there seems to be a war on the depiction of...full figured women. I understand the stated reasoning, "women shouldn't have to be sexualized for male attention." That reasoning is a lie, but I understand it. Oh, when I say it's a lie, I mean they don't mean that is the reason it's being done. It's just a disguised attack on the feminine form. Look at Eivor for an example of what I mean. I like to take an issue and look at it more broadly. If you spread the idea that the female form shouldn't be shown off like that....what else are you saying? If you say that having big boobs is inherently sexual and shouldn't be displayed in our media....what are you saying to girls who happen to have that body type? Should they be ashamed? Should they cover up? Should they go further and have surgery? If they keep pushing the image of a masculine woman as being "correct" what will that do to girls' self-image? What effect has it already had? This is a giant rabbit hole that I don't want to go down.
All this to say, Superheroes and Video Game Characters are not reflections of real life. They're the idolized versions of humanity. Sure, people can try to look like them. Some might succeed, most will fail. But in my opinion, it is not inherently wrong to have idolized characters. As long as you teach people that is what it is. Not realistic characters that they should feel bad for not looking like. "They're characters that we can try to look like only if we actually want to, not because we think we have to do so to fit in or to find a significant other."

@@blackromeoKOK 🎅Thank you and I hope your Christmas was lovely too! You're right that fan service exists for both male and female characters, especially in fighting games and other genres where exaggerated designs are part of the appeal. Balancing appeal with respect is tricky but important, and it's something game designers are increasingly experimenting with so they’ll eventually learn to do it well. Hopefully. o.o
And I can’t believe you mentioned Red Dead Redemption!! That is also my favorite game, I have insane hours ‘invested’ in it :)), especially in collecting the rare wild horses. Yes, a Red Dead game with a female lead could be incredible! Stories that explore different perspectives often enrich a franchise, but you’re right that the current climate makes such changes more contentious. I think THAT game is not ready for it although I would play it, maybe as Sadie?. :)) Hopefully, as players see these ideas executed well, the fear and backlash will lessen over time.
Thanks again for the thoughtful comment, it's always amazing to hear such well-articulated opinions!♥

@@Lethalium Yep, playing as Sadie would be the best way to hopefully avoid the rage that would come from that kind of announcement. But I'd even play a no named lady who was living a simple life on a farm. Maybe she was married maybe she was living with family. A band of outlaws show up, the worst most dangerous gang in the area. They pillage the place. Our main character managed to hide with a revolver, just in case. She survives and the gang leaves. That's the beginning of her story. She has to learn to shoot, learn to hunt, learn to track. The more you use a specific gun the better at aiming it she gets. You can upgrade the gun to make it slightly better or sacrifice your proficiency for a better gun. She can be a bounty hunter working her way through gangs till she finds the ones who set her on this path. You could have her be a ruthless gunslinger herself or a wandering hero. And of course plenty of old west outfits to wear. Dresses, pants dusters.
...as I was writing that I got more and more into it...sorry. But yeah it's just a case of bad timing that I hope is the only problem. I want Witcher 4 to be good. I want Ghost of Yotei to be good... I'm just scared they won't be.
Also seems like my other comment didn't get allowed. In essence I said that the negative way the woke people address the female body can have an effect on the self-image of girls. They act like it's shameful to be conventionally attractive. Like it's shameful to have a curvaceous body. That can and does have negative ramifications on girls self-esteem and image. Too many girls nowadays don't like the idea of being a girl. I think this is a big factor. Too many people saying it's bad to be a girl, not enough people saying it's awesome to be a girl.

“If I wish to change anything, I cannot do so hunting monsters round forgotten villages”.
This was the Witcher 3 Empress ending, curious to hear thoughts on why it makes sense to have the Lady of Space and Time as a witcher from this perspective.

You know, you raise a very good point! My hunch is that they’ll properly explain how or why Ciri went the hunting monsters route. Perhaps a trauma or a curse or something specific that might have altered the course of her “destiny”. But apart from that, I expected her to be a main protagonist the moment they made her character playable in the previous Witcher. They planted the seed and I knew they were going to water it.😅
What about you? In your view, are the developers completely unforgivable for going “off script” or are we in for a surprise? Hopefully, a good one.🙁 Thank you for the awesome comment!🤗

@ I mostly hope the game is just good. But me personally, I liked the idea of Ciri controlling an entire kingdom. I can see how that doesn’t really work out from a gameplay perspective though. We’ll just have to see how it plays out. Thanks for the great video!

Worse than that, if she did the trial of the grasses then the last person of elder blood is now sterile. Sucks if that trait is needed in future.

@@Billosopher21Don't know if you've played it but Fable 3 is a decent example for how it could be done. You play a Prince or Princess who become King or Queen. You travel around do quest, come back to your kingdom to make decisions for your kingdom, go back out and quest some more. It definitely can be done.

They made this Ciri ugly both in terms of appearance and personality. the sacrifice girl is still murdered by the villagers and her response that they’re are only monsters is depressing and weak dialogue. At least Gerald used to save women and children in distress and he still maintained a strong sense of hope in Sapkowski’s mostly dark world which was a great counter point. Since this has nothing to do with his writings CD project red may as well made up some new Slavic story with a strong independent female protagonist. Ciri’s character came across as incompetent, bitter & fundamentally nihilistic in this trailer. Why would anyone, man or woman want to play such a game?

Yeah. She’s a brand new Witcher. Mistakes are going to be made and that death will weigh on her. If you’re capable of looking at anything beyond the superficial it was an amazing trailer. Cope harder.

@@IanFleming808 You know what? A new Slavic game sounds a lot better than The Witcher 4 especially since it disappointed so many people before it’s even out. I think the trailer and dialogue was made in such a way in order to express despair and maybe foreshadow the terrible things Ciri went through (hopefully) before becoming a Witcher. In fact, the books are even more depressing, book Geralt is not so…palatable as game Geralt. But I understand and respect your view, things are not looking good for the game but I am an eternal optimist so maybe we’ll…like it after all?😅 Thank you kindly for dropping a comment, I really enjoyed reading your words!✨

@IanFleming808 this is what's annoying me about this "ciri is ugly" stuff. It's distracting from the worse lazy decision they've made going "uh she's a witcher now". I don't care about that ciri is a witcher ending in witcher 3, that was just an ending for people who wanted Ciri and Geralt to stick together. The whole point was the growth in her character that meant she could defeat and walk away from the white frost, ciri becoming empress made far more sense in that context. But, eh, she's just a witcher now

    • @MFobes
      @MFobes 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@ a take that disregards her disdain for the royal court prevalent in both books and games and the ending to blood and wine where if you ask her about her time away if she’s on the path she is content and if she’s empress she’s miserable. It’s been set up you just didn’t pay attention.

Let me educate you because you seem uninformed about the activism that exists in the industry. People who follow gaming related news have seen the obvious uglification and defeminization of female characters in games. Look at Mary Jane in Spiderman 2 compared to Spiderman or Aloy in Horizon forbidden West compared to Dawn. Look at the real life actresses that are much more pretty than their in game counterparts. Like Kay Vess from Star wars outlaws or Aloy's real actress. Look at how the Dragon Age Veilguard women look in comparison to older entries. And there are many more examples. It's about a feminist agenda that targets the male gaze. And i don't know you, you could be all for it as a woman. Most character decisions are made according to this ideology in western AAA games. And the real problem is this is just the tip of the iceberg for the problems a game will have. A mining canary.
