We certainly need to look holistically about the proposal. A travelator is certainly a plus and convenient for pedestrians especially the aged and handicapped, but we need also to look at the costs , the design challenges & difficulties as well as to be able to gain the mutual acceptance of the Government from both sides.
I believe a covered walkway will be a more realistic achievable option.

Totally agree! Most times, immigration booths are not manned even during long jams. The authority should have certain amount of redundancy in the staffing so that all booths are manned. The cost of this is insignificant when compared to the huge waste in fuel and time of all the vehicles waiting in the jams. Much air pollution could also be eliminated!

You need to give people a break as well.
They could be handling handling the huge departing traffic till 12-1am. At around 4-5am, those working and studying in Singapore will start filling up the checkpoint as well.
1 to 4 am is probably the only period they can try to stagger and ensure all their staff get some break before the morning traffic comes.
Dont think we want to see tired, slow and overworked staff at the counters.

One might say that computer needs a break as well but just for your info. Even the counter is closed. The computer is still running with a no entry sign displayed on the screen. So they are not turning it off but just not letting travellers to use them. I hate to say this but I think the officers in woodlands have the mindset to let the motorcyclist jam and queue and they seems to be having fun looking at people jam and faint especially during the hot sun but I give credits to the officers at Tuas as they on the other hand are working hard to come up with ideas to ease the congestion with the “operation sun raise” idea. Effective or correct resources management & deployment is important and critical in addressing the needs or demand and can definitely cut down on the delay or waiting time.
I believe it is one area which the Authority concerned should look into to improve on the control and management of the manpower resources, to reduce the waiting time and also not to over stressed the manpower deployed.
Wonder what is the system the Authority is using now for such management?

Amir, you must be the upteenth reporter to cover this several decade-old problem. I no longer live in your part of the world, but I do remember during the Rahman-Kuan Yew era when I was a young boy in the 1960s that this problem was at its infancy. Unless both governments, on both sides of the Causeway decide and agree to put aside their differences, this problem will continue to plague. I do visit both countries and reluctantly have to use the Causeway(no option/alternative). This problem can quite easily be alleviated, only IF the will to do so eventuate. All these proposed ideas are only band-aid measures with no long term solutions, unfortunately. I am pretty sure many would agree with me and like me quite helpless to do anything about it. Thank you.

You think those Singaporean will be happy with such use of our taxpayers money? Better to provide more healthcare benefits or make our mrt system more efficient and comfortable using the taxpayers money.

Heard skillsfuture can be used there in future, even the 40yrs old limit will be skipped(means everyone will get $4000 under 40 years old), because the same company is at both places to "learn from their using the money"(living advantage increase with correct marketprice and school at Johor of same company). Anyway the "congestion"-imagination survived, knowing actually sometimes it's peaceful fast move exist like an expressway. They know can become stronger if go there sometimes to spend - especially if go "Angsana"(but it's quite some time, maybe buying food first will be nice) will support Singapore's strength, maybe a druglord activity and other(country) mixture of oil spike into sea to have no fish-theory of the injuring-move to cause adversity in life.

You're right. If we examine the reason behind heavy traffic between both countries, we realise that the underlying factor lies in the economic disparity between the two currencies.
For malaysians, you know the drill. 1:3.5 exchange rate is simply irresistible. They come here to work.
For singaporeans, the cheap goods & services that can be bought and brought back to SG is also very enticing. They buy stuff at a discount with the favourable exchange rates.
If the exchange rates were to be 1:1, there would be significantly less traffic between the two countries. But that would mean an overhaul of the economic policies from the Malaysian side. (which will never happen)

Many improvisions had been added and today it look messy, with many added signages, movable cones and water barricades, unnecessary humps, many more automatic barriers purported for necessary security but also added more delays .

For a almost 1 km, it's only need an underground pedestrian tunnel like those from MRT stations to exits. If u notice MRT Marina Bay to gardens by the bay exits have long pedestrian tunnel.
Also, Outram park station to TEL line platform towards woodlands almost 1km in my mind, walking and ups and downs of escalators before u reach the station. I don't know how deep the station but some MRT station may reach up to 8-10 floors deep underground or even more. For example Ampang Park MRT St. near KLCC.
Considering this, causeway is actually outdated n unneeded anymore thus we also can make underground sea tunnel like SMART tunnel in KL which the length is almost 10km (10x the leghth of tambak Johore causeway)
Another option is international cable car with 4-6 lines. This one is more attractive way.

It is a Malaysian problem. Only Malaysians are making daily crossings. Singaporeans only cross it during holidays or weekends.
It doesn't help that Malaysians don't have the habit of using public transport. The Malaysian authorities don't even think public transport facilities are important, thought it is a waste of money. Hence all the flip-flop.
Singapore already announce it's plan to purchase land to help ease the congestion for Malaysians benefit but instead, Malaysia sit on the deal, wanted to do a land swap. Trading Malaysia undeveloped land for Singapore developed land instead of selling land for Singapore to develop into a bigger custom.

The causeway walkway is usually use by Malaysian who walk to Singapore to work. Those who want to holiday usually use vehicle like bus or mrt or car.
Singaporean who go Malaysia is for holiday or fun trip including shopping so they won't walk back from jb when bus fare is only few dollars.
Should Malaysia pay at least 70% for the covered walkway then it's something Singapore government can consider.
Singaporean already unhappy with the Malaysian coming to Singapore to work, do you think these locals want to use their taxpayers money to build the covered walkway to better benefits the workers?

    Solution #1: increase capacity;
    A) Increase # processing points at both sides/single automated clearance for bulk of travellers (SG & MY citizens)
    B) Expand the # lanes on roads both sides, to account for the volume of traffic
    C) Increase # ports/entries for all transport types: road, rail, sea, bus, even bike & walking
Solution #2: Passport free travel for SG & MY citizens through some automated system.
    That’s it.
The final point: making the border crossing more efficient & frictionless will increase traffic / crossings at both sides (easier/quicker crossing e.g. from average of 2 hours to 10 minutes will attract more people more often), so solutions must consider the increase in traffic and adjust capacity accordingly.
