    Note that not all NAS models are compatible with Migration Assistant. Check out this link to figure out if yours is compatible -> www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/packages/MigrationAssistant.
    Thanks @jimdunfield7541 for your comment regarding this issue.

    Great detailed video. Please be aware though that Migration Assistant does not support many older NAS versions. For example it can't be used with a DS218.

      @jimdunfield7541 Thanks for the note. Much appreciated!! I'll create a pinned comment where others can see if their Synology NAS is compatible with Migration Assistant.

    Thanks for the explaination. In general, IT drives me nuts because of all the conditions that always apply. There is no straight way forward, there are always a lot of "if". Not my cup of tea. It would be nice if I could just plug a cable between two NAS devices and press a button "migrate" or something.... lol.

      @mavic6155 You're welcome!! For sure, IT is definitely challenging with so many "what if" situations. Hopefully you've figured out your migration and, if not, best of luck to you!!

      Another option could be to just move the hard drive from the old to the new and follow the steps. ‼️Important: do not choose to delete the drive!!!

    Thanks for the video! How long is the service unavailable during migration? (see 3:54)

      @alessandropiras1480 You're welcome!! You only need to install Migration Assistant on the destination Synology NAS. Best of luck in your migration!!

    Is it possible to migrate from a 5-bay DS1522+ to a 4-bay RS822+ is only using 4 drives in the 1522+

      @digital_aloha  ปีที่แล้ว

      @jims8726 If I'm reading the question right, you plan to move the drives from the DS1522+ to the RS822+? If so, that should work fine and Synology has a knowledge base article that covers this -> kb.synology.com/en-us/DSM/tutorial/How_to_migrate_between_Synology_NAS_DSM_6_0_HDD. I plan to do this as well in the near future and will create a video when I do. Good luck!!

      @@digital_aloha Thank you for the info. I was concerned about moving a 3 disk SHR volume from the 1522 being a 5 bay into a 4 bay device.

      @@jims8726 You're welcome. Hope moving the 3 disks to the new Synology NAS worked for you.🤞

    Thanks for the video! Does all of your data (files) remain on the source drive after migration has finished?

    • @digital_aloha
      @digital_aloha  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @surmo You're welcome!! Regarding your question, yes the data will still remain on the source nas after the migration. Hope this helps and good luck in migrating your data!!

    Is t it important to explain how the Source and Destination are physically connected? Are they both each connected to the router? Are they connected to each other by a cable?

      @digital_aloha  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @richardlansing I actually assumed that both NASs were on the same LAN connected to a common switch. Hope that helps?
