I use parchment paper cut to size using the air fryer basket as a template. Fold the paper then use an office hole punch to make the holes through several layers. Simple and saves on cleaning up time. Thanks for the video. Love watching the taste testers! Love your cheery presentation

WoW! I just happened to stumble across your videos and I'm HOOKED!! I binged watched about A TON of 'em and you definitely got my vote. I'm a single senior (although I don't feel senior) and I live on a houseboat. That being said, space for me is at a premium. I do have a 2 burner counter top electric stove, a microwave oven and a counter top convection oven, all of which I use. What draws me to the air fryer in the size. From watching your videos, and for the amount of time and space they all take up, and the fact I'm only cooking for one, the air fryer is really all I need. I'm so impressed with your knowledge and your simple and easy manor and the way you explain everything, I'm a convert. Love your videos and keep up the GREAT work 👍

I totally enjoyed this comparison! I have never used parchment paper of any kind and find clean up easy, just soak the basket in a sink of soapy water for a few minutes and it comes clean in seconds! This just confirmed I can do without it. So thank you! I am so anxious to see what was delivered today, please show it soon! Thanks for all the tips and tricks and recipes you share! Huge fan here!

"just soak the basket". What about the grease that's left over? I hope you wipe it up first and don't just dump it down your drain. Well, if I was a plumber, maybe I'd hope you did, but it definitely is not good for the drain pipes.

I saw your demonstration test about parchment paper. I am a
On a small budget since I retired. I can buy parchment paper from the dollar tree. O made a template to match my bottom tray. I cut out 30 liners, then took a punch hole maker and went to town folder in fourths the punched holes all over. It lets the grease flow downward the and the air flows all around. Try it you’ll like. Stay safe and enjoy life.

Thank you for this. I tried regular parchment paper at first, then ordered air fryer parchment paper. Maybe I'm lazy, but air frying is a quick way to cook. I couldn't see spending a bunch of time cutting out and hole punching parchment paper. It's just me, so I may not use the air fryer as much as some may. I like the air fryer parchment paper. It soaks up some of the grease and most times it means I just wipe out the air fryer with a paper towel when done. As to the silicone liners, I don't imagine they soak up any grease at all. Waiting for your review on them.

Oddly enough, I learned about the powerwash spray on here, in the “How to clean your air fryer video”. If you run out of powerwash, keep the bottle & google DIY powerwash refills. Turns out it’s just Dawn, alcohol & water.

    • @mattm7378

When you want to refill your Dawn spray soap just buy regular Dawn dish soap and fill the spray bottle 30% with dish soap and the rest with water. Now try spraying. It should look exactly like the foamy spray you expect. That is literally how dawn produces the stuff so by the bottle once , make it yourself because and save a ton of money

CLEAN UP TIP : soak with DAWN - big box store has a BOTTLE BRUSH (under $2) is sturdy with a long handle (no need to get hands wet) - bristles are stiff enough to clean basket but soft enough not to damage - works great! Dear Kathy: thanks for your chicken breast video that advises 3 minutes per side - everywhere else on the internet advises much more time causing them to be over cooked - this was a game changer for me.

I have a Kalorik oven style air fryer with trays. I do not know what type of coating is used on the trays, but cleanup is always quick and easy - even with bbq wings. I soak the vented trays inside the bottom nonvented tray (little water required) for 5 minutes and cleans right out.

In my opinion, parchment paper is not needed at all. The air fryer baskets are ultra non-stick, so after cooking, a wipe with a paper towel will get most of the drippings, then you just give a quick wash. No matter what you use or not use, you still have to wash the basket. Parchment works best for aluminum sheet pans and baking pans in a regular oven. In those applications, it will minimize your cleanup. Additionally, if you were going to use the parchment from a roll, one would think you'd try to trim it a bit and not just jam the full width in the basket as you did. Cutting to fit and punching a few holes in the roll paper would work fine. Good video!

  • @MJ-we9vu

I mostly use parchment paper for doughy things like calzones, empanadas and hand pies. Regular parchment paper with a few holes punched in with kitchen scissors. I flip them over after 6 minutes and finish the other side for 4 mins more. They're nicely browned and cleanup is a breeze. Without parchment some dough always sticks to the tray.

Parchment paper is used a lot by e.g. chefs and pastry chefs too, not only bakers. And I thought all people cooking and baking in their homes were familiar with it too. I buy airfryer liners myself, out of laziness, but if I were to make them myself now, I would just skip the holes, in my experience, they don’t make much of a difference! I mean, I use alu foil pans and baking pans all the time to save on cleaning and it works perfectly even if there’s no holes! So… No holes really needed! It’s just a small convection oven and the fan(s) is very capable at moving the hot air around! Looooove my Cosori(s) - got my new upgrade (Dual Blaze) just yesterday! 🤗

my way i cut to size the greaseproff paper just smaller than the crisper plate, its cheap you get a lot of it and its a game changer, that way the air still gets to circulte around the edges of the cripser.
no more messy draws just roll up the paper and throw it away and give the basket and tray a quick wash.
you cant be too carefull with a thin non stick coating like all the models have, you would think they would give you an option for a stainless steel crisper but i have looked high and low and i cant find one.
i baught a dual basket one recently and have been exprementing over the weekend.

Hope for help, should I always use the crisper plate or just put food in basket? Number 2 does the parchment so in bottom of basket or on top of crisper plate? Please help

I was just thinking of trying parchment paper too. I have the silicone with holes. Its just as as messy but cooks fine. I was also thinking it keep it from rusting as fast like our first one the family used so much in a year or two was rusted. How can you keep the airfryer from rusting?

I would like to see if the silicone mats alter the cooking procedures and results vs the air fryer parchment. Before knowing that the pro I can see for the silicone is that over time it should save money as you purchase once and reuse. The cons I see are that you must use oil (as you pointed out that the silicone mats, unlike much other silicone cooking items, are not non-stick. The other disadvantage is that they must be washed, and probably by hand as their flexibility would not make them good candidates for dishwasher cleaning as they would flop over not allowing inside to folded over part to get fully cleaned and rinsed - well, that's what I think will happen. I'd have to test it to know for sure. Or watch your show. Hint hint Maybe you could make that part of the test and you could add that information.
BTW I love your tests, experimentation, recipes and especially the honest unbiased evaluations you, and your family, give. The kids' reactions are the best. Honest, very descriptive and come with great facial expressions and occasionally sound effects. Sharing your kids with us adds a great deal to your channel. (Tell them they are Stars. But not to let it go to their heads. They are great just the way they are.) But you too, Cathy, give us unbiased, thoughtful and honest suggestions, evaluations, tips and cautions all which help us avoid pitfalls and enjoy success. Thank you.
Believe it or not, I do not yet have my own air fryer. Not only did I need to save up but in redoing the kitchen I will finally have enough room for it to permanently stay on the counter. I decided to wait until the renovation was finished, the dust has settled and it will have a home of its own instead of waiting in a box I will, undoubtedly, trip over. Yet, because of watching so many of your excellent videos ( justI had to throw that in) I already feel like a pro. I actually have two friends that call me with their air fryer questions. I think that's funny. But that's the power of the knowledge you've given me even when lacking much experience. While I do have some experience from cooking at family and friend's homes I cannot wait until I have an air fryer just sitting on my counter to be easily used frequently. Cooking at homes other than my own has given me the opportunity to try several different brands of air fryers.
You had already sold me on a 5.8 qt Cosori (which I did get to use and have fallen in love with) but now I see there is a new Cosori that has heating elements on both the top and the bottom. It's also larger. I hope that those boxes that arrived while shooting today's video contained one of them. I am anxious for you to use it and give us your evaluation. With two heating elements I suspect there will be a number of changes in technique and cooking temps and times. As not many air fryers on the market currently have the dual elements I'm thinking most people will continue to be needing recipes and instructions for the one element versions. However, if this two element version that Cosori has put out is very good with some major differences, including, maybe, even shorter cooking times (after all, that's one of the air fryers leading attractions for people) it may not be long before other brands are producing two element designs as well. To be the most help to the most people I imagine you will continue cooking as you are now with the top element version. That makes sense. I am hopeful, though, that as you use the new Cosori you will take note of the differences applied to those recipes, your recipes. Also, hopefully, you will be able to generalize those changes so that if (after seeing you use it and hearing your evaluations) I elect to purchase the newer model you will have given us some pretty standard guidelines for adjusting current air fryer recipes, say from your new book, to where we can successfully use them in the two element machine. Cosori seems like a good company so I'm hoping they give us conversion information as well, but the info coming from you will all be based on common sense, good observations and your experience and expertise.. That I will trust.
I was planning on ordering a 5.8 qt Cosori in two weeks UNTIL I saw the new one. Even though I am so anxious to get one and use it now I want to wait and see what you think. I do hope one of those boxes has a new model in it. If not, please inform Cosori your subscribers are anxiously waiting for demonstrations and your assessment. If the new model wasn't in one of those boxes ask them to send it to you post haste. I'm sure they were going to gift you one anyway. That's just good business on their part. We just want it sooner. You can also tell them that because of your use and praise of the 5.8 qt model when I got a different air fryer for Christmas I had my niece send it back for a refund and add that amount into my Amazon account for when I order my Cosori They've got to know what an asset you are to their company. They couldn't have a better spokesman (woman) for their brand. So, with baited breath, I will be waiting and watching for your use, comments and evaluation of the new model. I hope I can say "Coming to the Fabulously Frugal TH-cam channel soon!"

What about liners without holes and that have some of the paper going up the sides? I am fed up of trying to clean the grate after cooking pork chops or chicken. I have to soak the grate then scrub to get the food off so I was going to try the parchment liners without the holes. Have you used those? TIA

  • @johnstone9612

A test with the silicone mats would be a good idea although I already know the answer. I purchased one for my fryer on a recommendation that it would reduce the wear and tear on my fryer basket, It may well do so but due to the heat non-conductivity of silicon it means more faffing about turning and shaking and in the end I just use my mat on the counter top to put hot pans on.
    PS Love the show.
