A safer way of doing this to get a couple rear end Subaru differentials and just flip rotate the front one. Then you only have the one chain in the rear (smaller). Just don't gear down the sprockets too much.
If possible reverse engineer a shaft drive, definitely a half-inch thick chain guard and I'd weld plate over the drive between your legs, or serious hinges, stop messing with the dogs, they'll get you...
Thats what I was thinking. Thought I was the only one to notice the front is out pulling the rear. Plus the chain and rotating shaft under you.... So much improvement needed.

you NEED to cover that chain (and put tensioner in there too) or you'll rip your own leg or arm one day.Still, good loooking buggy :).
