Yeah, I used to think it was insane how many crazy tools existed for watchmaking. Now I'm starting to understand and appreciate them. It does make life difficult for watchmakers however, that so many are required!
Ugh! How do you clean it off guitars? With a watch we can disassemble the watch and ultrasonic cleanse the case. That's why I prefer watches over guitars - that and they also tell time, which guitars generally don't do.
Taking the vice grips to the bezel opening tool was a pivotal moment in watchmaking! I have the same bezel tool, and while logic says it should work, I have found otherwise. It seems to be best at getting things started, and then finishing up with a pocket knife or pry tools. Thanks for the shout out on my recent video! I see why you said the Awatch and Mwatch are similar. It is really interesting how the watch industry, especially swatch, made an art out of creating these inexpensive watches, at the expense of serviceability. There's one more brand that I can think of that found the perfect combination of features versus price, which I have to admit I take for granted. Timex.
Yes! I think that some bezels don't have enough lip for the thin wedge of the tool to go far ebough in to pop the bezel off purely from the wedge thickness. I think what happened with the Swatch Irony is the tool actually compressed the bezel itself so much that it flexed and that's why it popped the case up like that. It worked, but it's not ideal! I like you're idea of attacking with a second tool! Yes about Timex. Timex was my first love!
