  • A few years ago I posted a couple videos of how we fish squid here in Newfoundland, little did I realize it would create such interest around the world. Since I posted the 2 videos they have received over 162000 views!
    • Squid Jigging
    I have received many emails asking about the "Squid Hauler", and most of the emails asking if I would add a video of how a squid hauler is made. Finally, I did it. Hope you enjoy it.

    Love your shows Man! Hey. Im.from Alaska and have Commercial fished here. I don't know if we have Squid where I'm at but ive got to say your Squid Hauler is a work of genius! We anchor chocks on the beach and out onto rocks to run lines thru to make a continuous pull so that we can pull nets on or off the beach while set netting
    It's similar but I never thought of running the lines vertically. You guys are smart!

    Brings back a lot of fond memories. Back in the early 70's squid rollers were just coming into use. There were some strange looking contraptions. You made do with whatever you could get your hands on. We used to tie the jiggers individually & there was some colorful language when they broke in the middle of the night on the squiddin ground. The squid were so plentiful in the mid seventies that the color of the water was a milky color when you got on them. The jiggers would stop going down & when you hauled back it was both hands on the handle. Things have gone modern. Thanks for sharing. Let's hope they show up this year.

    Now that is what every squid jigger needs. That is awesome to see how it works. The one idea that I would suggest it to make up a pedestal somehow and attach a chain driven motor where the handle is. Something like a bike chain setup but with chain sprockets and a chain driving it. It shouldn't be hard to figure out there Leon, especially with all your knowledge and ingenuity that you have. Best to use a chain setup and not belts as the belts would slip when they get wet. That would certainly help your arm, shoulder and back for sure. Looking forward to seeing what you bring us next. 🙂

      Our squid do not show up until at the earliest July and stick around right up to November sometimes. Generally, if squid are in your area you will see them squirting water at the surface as they feed.

    Great explanation, thanks for your efforts! The only doubt is that so many squid fishing rigs are stored in the roller. Wouldn’t the hooks get caught on the fishing line, causing the line to be unloaded or retrieved abnormally?

    • @HOTRhuntinontherock
      @HOTRhuntinontherock  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would not be an issue at all our setup right now never tangles so i dont see why it would with my newer style. Thanks for watching

      @@HOTRhuntinontherock This is the confusing part. So many hooks and lines are wound on the roller. Is there some trick in the design to ensure that the lines and hooks do not get entangled?

  • @traxx314
    @traxx314 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If your roller was set to the opposite side of where the hooks come back in the boat,with the line going under a roller it could give more contact time and better friction on you wheel. Message me if you need an illustration

    Better be careful with the number of views you get. One thing I’ve learned about governments and innovation is that, “ If it moves, regulate it. If it keeps moving, Tax it. Once it stops moving, subsidize it”.
    Cool invention.
