What a moose & hunt . I really enjoy watching a video where the hunter is approbative of his surroundings , the outfitter and game , you could tell he did all the way . What a great video, thanks for sharing .
I used to Guide there myself for 7 seasons In 84 to 90 when Dave Coleman had the area. Then I went to Guide for Stan and Helen Steven's in the North West Territories for 18 seasons. Loved calling in those Giant Bulls. I shot my 68 in Bull up there.
This is one of the most rewarding hunts i ever guided, the plan and execution worked dead on! It's so rewarding when you make a plan and try and think like the moose would think and it all comes together as planned! To sit in one spot for 4.5-5 hours and watch what you had planned play out in front of you is unexplainable.
Another great video Deon. Congratulations Marion on fulfilling your dream and making the right choice of the outfitter with Deon as your guide. He’s a wicked advantage when it comes to a hunting buddy😎
I've called in a few gients...biggest...72-1/2" spread...BUT my favorite are the 4-5 year Olds. I am a tine guy...love them big long tines... What an AUSOME VIDEO
ALWAYS watch those hind legs...before the second shot/arrow...notice how his stance of his hind legs shifted...little wider...steady himself...when you see this...just wait.... IF you are confident in your shot and perhaps you see the actual impact of the bullet.... Sometimes also, try a loud grunt...2, 3, 4, ...often, it will stop an animal from running or taking off... just sharing a few tip...hope it helps
@@juddevans8043 some people believe in this theory.... I've asked many people how many shots they made at a moose to knock it down... 17 was the highest number... One time I went along for a ride...and a nice paddle bull stepped out in front of us...hmmm maybe 200 feet 7 shots...the moose stood there...I asked, do you want me to shoot it...several times...No no no...as he reloaded... oh yah...the 17 shots...my dad heard the shooting....when he arrived at the hunter...there was a moose STILL alive...broken back and standing on it front legs...hind end down... My dad walks up to the moose...and shoots it dead with a 22 long rifle. Couple things my father taught me... IF YOU HAVE TO KEEP SHOOTING at an animal, you either have NO IDEA whether you'll made a good shot...NO IDEA where you are SHOOTING...NO IDEA where your bullet is hitting...the last 3 moose I've shot....ONE BULLET EACH Cheers and shoot straight...my father always said
I will add something I learned from a biologist. Moose have a very low heart rate so although they are easy to kill they are slow to die. My advice is to keep shooting until they fall over. Arrows are cheap compared to the cost of chasing a dead on its feet bull.
Another spectacular moose hunt there Deon. You sure know where and when the moose will be in an area. Your perseverance with the pre-scouting is beyond reproach. Your videos never disappoint and always deliver beautiful scenery and lots and loads of big monster moose. Would you happen to know what the state record is for a moose taken by bow? What would be the biggest/widest/ and most points be? Where would this monster rate among them? Looking for another great hunt to show up soon I hope. Take care and stay safe and warm out there. Tom, Nova Scotia Canada.
Wow , Thanks Tom for watching and your kind words, as for the largest bull moose ever taken with a bow, as far as i know is still the "Rackmans moose". Real Langlois as several AWESOME DVDs of the Yukon. It was a 76-inch bull. As for points, I'm not sure. I'm not sure where Marion's bull fits in the standings but as Marion said, it's one for his record books and that was all that mattered to him,lol
@@HOTRhuntinontherock Hey thank you for getting back so quickly. I just looked up the name you provided and that moose was certainly world class for sure. What a rack on it. Yes a personal best record for Marion is all that counts. As long as the hunter leaves happy and content is all that matters even if he didn't get to harvest anything. See you on the next video. What part of Nfld. are you from? Love watching those hunts close to home. Big moose in Nfld. as well. Later.
@@tombulger Northeast coast, my next video will be of NL, it's uploaded and ready to go!! Thanks again, huntinontherock@hotmail.com is my email if you have more questions.
Ho Lee Fuc is a good friend of mine and he agrees that this is the definition of "SLAB" . I hunt not far from this area, and over the years I was gifted all kinds of critter knowledge for the area. Above the trees is a different world. When the width guessing started, I stopped and went back in the video and judged it. I guessed deeper into the sixties, but very confident that it was 60 plus. Now what I was told, was specifically about these big mountain moose and I can't speak about lower latitudes critters. Does anyone out there have a perspective relationship hint for judging antler spread at distance? Judging grizzly in areas like this, where above the treeline the 4' willows look identical to the 10' willow.
I had some mooseburger back in the 90's. Mighty fine! I just gotta get the winning numbers to the Powerball and I'll be set! I'd go hunting and fishing and be a hermit.
Yes, you are correct! But this place is so remote it's only going to be maybe 4 guys even possible to see him. I think I have videos of him from previous years. I should have added it to this hunt. Thanks for watching
But why ? A beautiful creature, grazing peacefully, doing no harm ..... and a bunch of arse holes kill them. What is next on your bucket list, baby seal clubbing ?
Happy Belated 60th Birthday! What a moose, and what a wonderful wife to give you such a great present!
Might want to keep that wife...

Yes for sure. You have a very exciting life. I have harvested a 24 pointer. With a rifle and killed one cow with the bow and arrow. Very exciting.
