      agree they are not much in the way of hunters but deff know how to spend enough to be almost home lol maybe next time just stay at the hotel and just helicopter in to a spot where the sherp is parked then you won't have to worry about enough room for the meat . oh and bring the AR 15 incase the 2 or 3 shots to drop the guy ain't enough lol

    About the trail at 6:40, it's open because it's open. The openness makes it cooler and the lack of trees and brush makes it wetter than the dense spruce on the sides which leads to earlier and more severe frosts which young spruce are very, very sensitive to. To have it grow in you'd had to leave it until the grasses and brush first grows in and then the spruce can get established and start to grow very slowly.

    • @Mickr4
      @Mickr4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Add to that the fact that herbivores in the area use the trail as well and eat the saplings. Then you add their trampling and fertilizing of the area and you end up with the perfect condition to create a grassland. If you fence the area up against grazers, you will see trees appear soon enough.

    @ostacruiser When I used to survey the old timers used to tell us those old pipelines never grow back over because when they initially dig down it loosens up all of the peat that was solid underneath for thousands of years.

    Im not sure exactly where you rode. But it looks like a pipeline corridor to me. One possible reason for the trees not to grow is because the temperature of the ground might be to high for ideal tree growth. Due to the warmer product going through the pipe.

    For the trail being so wide. I think My First Nations people back in the early 60s would do this thing called “ spring burning “ they’d burn Valleys and grass lands to regrow the vegetation for the summer for years they’ve been doing that and now my area there’s flat lands all over trees do grow around.

    It’s probably an ice road. We have them in Northern Mn too, there is one a few miles from my parents place that is the same way through the Spruce Swamp. They used it originally to skid logs with teams of horses and now they freeze them down and haul wood out with Trucks. We love ripping it in the Winters when it isn’t used, after the snow gets deep we take our mountain sleds out to play in the powder.

    Perhaps that "highway" you rode in on is a wet area? Maybe what might be another river or creek if there were more water? In any case it looks like it's too wet and /or the PH changes for that swath so that no trees grow. Don't know. Just a guess.

    The question about why is there a random clearing through the woods where trees won't grow in. It could be a under ground river. We have underground lakes over here and they look like that, there is alot of grass and skeg but no trees. Basically just grass and top soil floating above the lake, no trees until you get to the outskirts

  • @christophernewton7767
    @christophernewton7767 ปีที่แล้ว

    My answer for the trail to be open the way it is. My guess would be fungal. I saw some stuff on what trees don't grow in some places because of a fungus mushroom matt like material. That's my guess concidering the trees aren't growing there. It doesn't look like it's traveled thru enough to stop them from growing & you say it's not treated.

    One thing a bout the Russian's, they certainly know how to make tundra vehicles. Aside from a skidder with chains, you have the ultimate off road vehicle! She's a beast 👍 You could even cross a lake if you had to🤔😵😵😵😵
    EDIT: YOU DID CROSS A LAKE👍 CHEERS FROM BRITISH COLUMBIA 🇨🇦

    Spent 40+ years in the Sapling Termination industry, we would be contracted by the crown to spray the herbicide Sherpentine out of Boeing 767s (hence the size reference) to keep those trails clear.

    Its a winter access road for oilfield or logging and in the winter it is snowplowed and packed to drive frost down into the muskeg. All the snow plowing keeps the trees cut off because it is probably -30C when plowing the road. I see being a camera man has its advantages lol.

    If you weld up a sled that can strap to the roof of the sherp you could pull it behind if you ran out of space

    That Boeing wouldn't get far,it's wings would snap off when it hits the trees,then the fuselage would dig up the terrain and get bogged,be interesting to see though. 😉
