I once flew in a plane where a gentleman, aged about 60, bent over and started praying quietly as the plane started to take off. Upon landing he bent over and started doing the same thing again.
In his mind it was him and his god that caused us to take off and land safely, not the pilots, engineers, air traffic control, meteorologists, maintenance crew, ground crew, and numerous others that ensured we had a safe flight.

Your initial thoughts about thanking some fantasy figure instead of your doctor etc. are spot on. As to your ending meditation on the value of equal treatment and the culture of cruelty, these right-wingers have forgotten history never mind the literature depicting it. I'm reading through Shakespeare at present and his histories of the blood-spattered internecine cruelty engendered by royal systems which denied the vast majority of people their rights and exalted religion over all clearly exemplify the dire peril of a return to those days.

Two stories about the sirens. We have Howlin Wednesday the first Wednesday of the month here in Minnesota where they test the sirens and my dog howls like a monster. And when you played the sirens, it was howling Wednesday.
second story. My little sister moved to live with me in Kansas and I forgot to warn her about howling Wednesday and she thought it was a real tornado so she grabbed her cat and was running down the street to the local shelter when she realized everyone else was just mowing their grass and going about their business.😂

Sometimes I fix dinner for my very-religious cousins. At the start of every meal, they both bow their heads and pray, thanking God for the meal they are about to receive. While I have no objection to this insane practice, I don't stop them, and I don't participate. I usually point out that I had much more to do with providing their good food than any invisible creature; I bought it, prepared it, and served it, and no one else was in sight. My cousins would say thanks to me as well, although they don't pray to me. I guess everyone was happy.

13:30 That siren brings back childhood memories of the sirens in my home town being tested twice a year (the time and day was posted in the local paper for two weeks beforehand to avoid unnecessary panic). Fortunately the sirens were never needed for real by that point, which would have been to warn of imminent flooding on our side of town or of a nuclear strike (not that we had any cellars in which to shelter from the blast and subsequent fallout, because of the risk of flooding). The siren near where I lived hadn't been used to sound an actual warning since 1944, and luckily then only four HE bombs hit the town and no-one was hurt.

I grew up and still live in San Diego CA. Seen some storms, huge waves, hard winds, and wild fires.
    But not tornados.
They're difficult to even imagine. They can pull the asphalt right off a road bed.
Gotta say though, earth quakes are a whole different thing.
No warning, no sirens, no nothing. Just wtf and things start going every where. Then it's over.
I rode out a big quake in the basement of a 5 story 100 year old building.
The old hotel bad a lot of noise but its been surviving quakes for a long time.

Seth's "Let's collab with those that we think are wrong against those that we both think are evil" is an approach I formulated in my mind since a few months:
When you talk to other people begin with
    1) Clarify the definitions. Too often people use the same words, but mean something totally different. And then you will NEVER find common ground.
One speaks of communism and means community, equal rights, participation of all on what they do, the decisions, the risks and the profits.
The other hears communism and only thinks of Sovier Union, Stalinism, Gulag, China, dozens of millions starving to death,
You do not have to agree on the definition, but both should know what the other means when he uses that word.
As that requires listening to each other and communicating to and fro till all has been clarified, that is anyhow a perfec preparation for

    2) Finding out the commonalities.
What would you like to achieve? What problems should be attacked? What things would make this world better?
And I bet that one can find many, many points where one can agree even with people that are seemingly totally opposed to you.
And maybe you find that would one realize those points you AGREE upon, you could achieve more than what you would probably reach when then other side is fighting tooth and nail against you. Which might hopefully lead to
    3) Sit together and work out how you can realize these goals TOGETHER.
That will require what is usually SOOOOO despised: COMPRISE.
An absolute no-word in the US mindset.
Compromise means you do not get everything, that what you agree upon is never clear, could always be shifted.
But something is always better than nothing, so you are better
setting out to realize your compromises - TOGETHER.
There is certainly a lot to do, but cooperation should speed it up,.
And THEN, when you achieved all that, only NOW is the to to move to

    4) bash each other's heads in about the things you disagree upon - if it is still worth it.
I saw that often in discussion rounds on TV, someone is making a statement, the other interferes with "You are talking total nonsense, you are completely wrong" - and then says (almost) completely the same - with a little different wording. Sometimes I would have loved to jump into the TV, grab both by the throat and scream
"Admit that you mean THE SAME! You can only not admit it because he is from another party, and you MUST distinguish yourself from them, claim that only YOU have the answers. In terms of power, but it poisons the society". (in my cas the german one)

Large tornadoes don't skip over stuff. Inside the larger body there are smaller suction vortices that are super intense and rotate with the direction of the larger body (think smaller more intense tornadoes whipping around). That's how you have multiple houses directly in the path and some are damaged while others aren't. Some were missed by these stronger suction vortices.

"I'm just curious, just to better understand your ruling, if someone on this committee then starts talking about someone's bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?"
Crockett was looking for clarification from the Chairman, not directly responding to MTG. In the ensuing racket in response to her asking the above question, Crockett can be heard saying that what she wanted was a clarification. She did not repeat the phrase, nor did she speak directly to MTG in any way improper the entire time. The media reported this all wrong. Watch the unedited video for yourself. BTW, the "tornado sirens" are what we here in Ukraine hear nearly every day due to the r*ssian invasion. I live 20 miles away from the nearest siren, I can hear the thing in the night sometimes, and kids in cities might listen to them more than once a day!
As for the subject: it seems to me that the folks who make the god an agent of the action (tornado disaster) put themselves in a danger of getting PTSD, I'll explain how. Scientists say that when people are injured by (or lose their loved ones due to) "a natural disaster" -- it's less likely for them to develop PTSD, because they know there's no one to blame, it's "just nature, just wind, just the way it happens, the air flow did not mean to hurt anyone". On the other hand, when people's lives are ruined by actions of other "thinking being", the survivors have much more chances to get chronic PTSD, because they know that Someone Did This to them on purpose! It adds to their trauma immensely.
That's why I view religious ppl as kinda masochistic( I notice this all the time among my believing relatives, it does not look healthy =(

In fact, her reaction by posting that card with a mostly positive message about body image, to me, was probably one of the few things she's said/done I didn't have a problem with.
