Is not about where you from we relate to the struggles of of our economic limitations. One of the more beautiful humanitarian documentary I have ever seen was , a walk to beautiful
As a South African, I just want to say God bless to all my Chicano and Mexican brothers & sisters, I appreciate the resilience for living and adapting to the American society but knowing your roots. I sincerely say this again God bless you all, this movie made me respect you all 🙏🏽.
The part at the end when Don José is looking at pictures of his family made me realize and understand why my mom had all these pictures of us around her house during her later years. Hundreds of pictures. Her memories printed on 4X6 matte pieces of paper silently keeping her company. I love you mom. Descanse en paz.
Great review, Tim👍🏼 I love epic movies🍿🎥 🤗💕 This was mentioned in the newest J.Lo documentary 2020 on Tubi. The said it was her first major role in a movie and the movie recieved great reviews!
@@imsljr420 Ha-ha. Not your favorite movie, then. Well, nobody said you had to like it. I wonder whether you watched it all the way through, though. I thought that, like so many movies, it got better farther in. (And I'm even opposed to illegal immigration!)
I put a thumbs up but shame on you to judge another's heart, this movie is not that good and in most of these scenarios in real life there would be a lot more cussing and aggression.
you know who they are, they stormed the capitol last week. they don't understand what this country is about, I love my Mexican friends and family in LA. I envy that family unity and love and am so grateful to be a part of it
We love you too bro, much respect, love everybody and everyone, be fair in life, that's all that counts, good people come in every color and race, speak the truth and show respect, you will get far that wAy . People will look at us different and not be so fast to judge. Take care brother
I think Isabel dancing on the street is significant to Jimmy because of Chucho dancing on the street with him as well. she had chuchos wild spirit too.
Que hermoso es volver a ver esta película en 09/06/23 y volver a llorar con cada escena. MI FAMILIA es un himno para todos los que somos orgullosamente mexicanos de ❤
I've watched this move over 100 times!!!! One of my all time favorites. This really depicts the way Mexican families live. I, myself have a very large family and we have a little bit of everything but always at the end we love each other and accept one another despite our choices. As we get older, everyone is going their way, making a life and as happy as I am for my family's happiness it's sad that we are not as close as we use to be. But when we get together all the memories we made brings me so much joy. Through the good, the bad, the ups and down... I will always love MY FAMILY 🤗❤🇲🇽
I think the saddest scene is when Jose near the end of the movie in his old age picks up that small picture frame of Chucho. More time had passed since he died than compared to how many years Chucho actually lived. So Chucho basically represents a literal lifetime ago while everyone else grew up but Jose cannot forget
Another scene that’s kinda a bummer is when the dad lights up about el californio being buried in the back and memo shits him down. The actor who plays the dad was good he really seemed disappointed like it was real
But then he walked out to the porch, almost feeling Cucho's presents, and saw an Angel in the sky, just like the one he saw when he knew his wife was pregnant with Chucho. He has been watching over La Familia.
Pachucos were not cholos, they were portrayed as gangbangers by cops and white America in the 40s and 50s. they were the sons of Mexican Americans who went to fight in WWII. They didn't fit in Culturally and obviously white people their age (like 13yr old to early 20s) didn't want anything to do with them because of racism. They created something that was their own. Now what this turned into is a different story. And another thing...for those saying that they are not Chicanos, that they are Mexican and American I have news for you, you are a Chicano! If you were born in the United States and have parents that were born in Mexico your are Chicano. If you were born in Mexico but grew up in the United States you are also Chicano. Being Chicano is not a bad thing. But more than anything being Chicano is who you are mentally, it's your Ideology. And here is a fun fact. for you just incase you didn't know... The Aztecs called themselves "Mechicas" they were "Mechicanos". The Spanish changed it to "Mexicas" and called them "Mexicanos" and or "Mexican" That's how it evolved over time. Chicano is literally short for "Mechicanos" so we should all be proud Being Chicano doesn't separate you from from any other Mexican. Everyone should stop saying "real mexican". That's what cause separation among La Raza!
They went to war during WWII and won the most awards during the war! Every single person that served during WWII are heroes but we fucking went to work. Look up all the awards Mexican Americans had during the war it will bring a smile to your face so proud of those men for doing all that they did.
+Uly DiazYou hit it exactly right I wrote a response but didnt add the meaning of Chicano the root of our blood is native as in Indian here is my response........... Not everything is black and white life has lot's of gray area many variables, that was a different time racism was not as protested no cell phone videos and the cops were ready to kill at will this story is part of our struggle my family went through it and many others have identical stories my family was here already we didnt cross the borders they crossed us. Many families in Los Angeles of Mexican decent were in the southwest and Ca. before it was part of the U.S. Arizona wasnt a state until 1912 and my great grandma was born in morenci Az. a mining town but was considered Mexican like her Mother and Father. She married and ended up in Boyle Heights where my Grandma and siblings were born. The kids back then were as american now as anyone else so how can we blame or judge how we have just as much right to integrate, my family has fought in both world wars Korea, Vietnam, and these new wars were a family of veterans and we still practice our culture but remember the word Mexican is a nationality so that is where the word Chicano came from we werent Mexican enough to Mexicans and not American enough for Americans so the right to self determination was born. Is it easier to understand that not everyones story is the same and nothing is black and white and life is very complicated that is why our best angle is always empathy and thoughts of understanding rather than thinking only one way applies to all. I also have Apache and Zuni blood so as an Indian my ancestors have been here for thousands of years. Show less
Uly Diaz nah vato I agree with you on almost everything except for people from Mexico being Chicanos. If someone is born in Mexico then they are Mexican period, them growing up in the U.S doesn't make them Chicanos
Uly Diaz Thank you for explaning that, I'm chicana and I strogled with that one time in my life. Thank God he showed me the truth in his baible. Now I'm Free to be me, full of love for me and others.
Really dislike the part where Chucho tells his father he doesn't want to be like him and to fuck all of what he's done. Seeing that part made me want to cry because I just hate HATE how many of us chicanos don't appreciate the struggle our parents, grandparents, etc. have done for us. Yes, times are changing but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be grateful for what our parents have done for us.
something that chicanos never gonna understand is what is a real Mexican thats the why chicanos don't like Mexico don't like our style life only chicanos who ever live on Mexico can be called Mexicans but the other chicanos can feel love for Mexico but they never know what Mexico really is
+pizza oiecy true, I can't say I'm a real Mexican. I wasn't born in Mexico and I've never been to Mexico. I have no idea what life is like over there. However, I would never put down my ethnicity, culture or roots to "fit in" into the "American" culture.
Dude, come on. I'm a "real" Mexican and I have no desire to be a Chicano, nor have I ever met any Mexican living here in Mexico that wishes to be a Chicano. 122 million Mexicans here, guess what, not all of us are trying to sneak into the US and live like a second class citizen. I live in my country with my people and am perfectly happy too, thank you very much you arrogant douche.
Here living in my 60 years in Moses Lake, Washington, Septembre 2024 & first time watching was a fantastic experience to view. Thank you for showing a cultural heritage classic movie. ❤
Fuck the dad wanna be Mexican , walking here to the US all the way from michoacan that’s BS I’m from michoacan and it pisses me off that he says he’s from michoacan but doesn’t say which part 😤😤
1:55:00 this part makes me cry the most. Growing up without a father is hard but I was blessed with my step father later in life who basically saved me and cared and loved me unconditionally. I love my father.
Jimmy is the most interesting out of the cast. Once an innocent boy destroyed by witnessing his brother's death, then ends up being a nasty person because of it. All changes when he meets an unlikely woman, but then tragedy happens again and the cycle continues. Great movie.
One of my favorites. To my fellow Chicanos let's face our traumas to heal our selves so we can stop the family "curses," and cycles to become strong people who also happen to be Chicanos😏😏
The best part is when jimmy and Isabella are in bed talking about their sad lives and finding out they both saw their relatives die in front of them ... sad as hell but made them fall in love with each other so much harder . That did it for me .....😭😭
@@cristya2042 honestly they shouldn't have killed her off. The family already had a lot of tragedy and Jimmy was very angry so giving him a wife and child would've been good redemption for him. Because he just spirals down again after she dies and isnt fully happy
@@illestone956 its also great writing because they both probably never talked about that stuff with anybody before. Jimmy because he was a masculine angry loner and Isabel was an immigrant who had no ties in the US except for her work. They found happiness in each other
The product of that scene was Carlitos. Carlitos is the product of sadness; anger; and resentment towards a system that screwed El Salvador and Chicanos in East LA. When Carlitos was naked with the aztec warrior custom in front of Memo's parents in law yelling "pinches gabachos" it represents Californios mentality still Mexico!!!!
I come from a family of ten .my parents also imigrated from mexico.my father was a farm worker then he workd in construction. we are ten siblings who grew up in los Angeles. we had similar experiences. unfortunately I was the only one to join a gang and go to prison. this movie is the life of many families from my barrio.the music the language the colors.i remember my mother calling my father viejo.and she always had his coffee.and unfortunately I lost my brother he was shot also. what nostalgia. I can still remember my jefesito working in the yard tending to his plants .when I got out of prison he was cutting his tomatoes and we had a long conversation. that is when he convinced me to take care of my children and I did.you can really say that this movie was similar to my family's life.
Everyone has a story to tell, but I feel exactly like you do, got the exact thing that went on with my family but it was my grandparents that came from Mexico, father was smart but never in my life, grew up without him, funny thing I'm buying a home and have him living with me, took him off the streets. Trying to raise my 3 kids and I've been with the same girl since I was 13. He still tries to tell me what to do, often getting crazy with me. I'm like,"no dad, just shut the fuck up and let me be", I hate the way he is, but I love him, always will. I know I shouldn't be that way and I should respect him , but,it's so hard. He's been here 9 years, can't be around him 30 min without arguing. He don't care about what I do, sees life differently and puts my kids down so much they don't want to go play on the back yard where he stays. He stays in a storage room, gots electricity, refrigerator, AC, but still an ass, don't know what to do, what to say. The worst I've done to him was tell him,"my whole life, I knew I never wanted to be like you, I wanted to be the exact opposite of you, raise a family". He put me down on that to and told me I don't know how to raise a family. Then walked in when I started yelling at him, told him, "you never raised one so how would you know,"didn't have a come back and slammed the door. I forgive him every time, it's gotten so bad he tries to fight me, I'll never put my hands on my father but I will cuss his ass out and scare him, lol,I do love that man, just tired of his actions
omg i know my uncle had to have that stupid crease in his pants lmao and my grandma calling my grandpa viejo (more like yelling at him) all my uncles listening to the oldies and the racism my dad endured so many real things in this movie for me too
Chucho in this scene actually said something true. In the US, money is what gets you respect, unfortunately, not dignity. Of course he meant this on financial terms and getting around society. If people see you working in landscape, they automatically associate it with low income illegal immigrants or just people that couldn’t get a degree in college or something, yet they don’t realize or remember that lawn mowing business, specially if run it yourself, can actually make you a good decent profit, but of course it’s hard work. But towards the end, he also said another true thing, and that is that it doesn’t matter how you get it, as long as you get it. Literally you can make 300$ in one day cutting lawn or more, yet you can also make the same selling illegal substances/drugs and walk into a nice restaurant with the same money and no one will ask you how you got the money that you’re about to use to pay the check, they’ll be just happy you came in and dropped money in their business. Basically Chucho made his choice to get his money illegally vs getting it by working hard.
Chucho was a pendejo those type of guys dont last End up in Jail Or Dead Like Frank Told Tony Montana “the guys who want it all, chicas, champagne, flash, they don't last”
@@Mayito_Tamps Yes I gree, he should have laid low and at least help his papa with the lawn business and kept his illegal business on the very low so no one would know. I'm not really praising his ways, but just pointing out the sick way society here in America worship money and don't even ask how people are making it. But yeah you're right, lol he was a pendejo. The gang life brings nothing good. He could have sold the stuff on the low without getting involved in the gang life.
Shit, maybe if you own the trailer and business, but I see so many of these guys where I live that I don't think they are making that much. Maybe more like 200.
Family really is the most valuable treasure any human being can have in their life. A loving caring supportive and comforting family. Everyone deserves that. ❣️
I think Chucho woulda been a good dad after seeing him teach kids mambo.. He just needed time to grow out of the whole "gangster" mentality & become more responsible
Jimmy was angry and everyone and everything...Isabel was persistent innocent and full of love. She brought the best out in him. From two different worlds brought together to pull one another out of the trauma that haunted them. She lived long enough to save him but it was Carlitos who truely healed him. 💙 this movie
I loved their story, probably my favorite (storyline) from the movie. I feel for Jimmy man, they all had their struggles and whatnot but it was him the one that suffered the most.
Back in those days the US government didn't give housing, food stamps, phones, insurance and money to people crossing in. So nobody really wanted to cross
One of my Favorite Movies of all time. I met Mr. Nava at a press conference in Houston, TX. It was well past time that positive movies like this were made. Thank you Mr. Nava and look forward to seeing what you will produce in the Future.
Mi Familia, forever mi familia... Picking fruit & vegetables in our youth led to my entire white family turning brown, we always loved to tan, awwwwww Best human beings on our planet, the hard working hispanic culture, thank you, muchas gracias mi hermanos & hermanas...
I first saw this in 1996, when my uncle brought the tape home and we watched it with our whole family. Now, I'm rewatching it for a class... This was so much better than I remembered. A verla otra vez!
This movie is helping me get through this quarantine. Thank you for still having it on, it’s one of my favorites and so happy I now can show it to my kids it’s what I grew up on. I love it so much. Also mind blown 🤯 I just realized that Jlo plays the young mother in the beginning of this movie lol
Stop calling it "quarantine". Unless you were explicitly ordered to quarantine, you're not in quarantine. It's LOCKDOWN. You look like an idiot saying quarantine.
The scene towards the end where the attorney son is embarrassed of his family is infuriating bc I am so proud of the hardships my parents have gone through and given us the best they could, while also coming from Michoacán. I am successful now and will always be grateful of my color, and where I am from. San Fernando Valley, California
Some people really suffer from internalized oppression and deny their Latino/ Hispanic roots. It's sad. But don't worry. I think there are more of us that appreciate our roots and celebrate them!
I can't help but notice the angst towards Memo the Attorney but none towards Chucho the Delinquent who not only was truly ashamed of his heritage not like Memo whatsoever but insulted and assaulted his father in the process.. all Memo was guilty of was wanting a good first impression of his family
With so many new fans loving this movie, here's a bit of movie trivia: Gregory Nava directed both Mi Familia (1995) and Selena (1996). Actors in both movies include: Jennifer Lopez who played "Young Maria" and "Selena", Jacob Vargas played "Young Jose" and "A.B. Quintanilla (Selena's Brother), Constance Marie played "Toni" and "Marcela Quintanilla" (Selena's Mother), Edward James Olmos played "Paco" and "Abraham Quintanilla" (Selena's Father), and the late Lupe Ontiveros played "Irene" and "Yolanda Saldivar." On a personal note, when I was 12, my mother took me to the Selena movie auditions in San Antonio, TX. I will never forget Director Gregory Nava introducing himself to the group of young girls auditioning and just thanking us for coming all the way out for the event and to just have fun that day
I can never get over the fact that J-Lo actually travelled to Ocumicho, Michoacán to shoot the beginning scenes of the movie and that they incorporated the Purépecha people and language into this movie as well.
I know there was a lot of fued between salvadoreños y mexicanos but ive always had love for the chicanos. The culture will forever take down generations and be beautiful. As a salvadoreña i felt so happy when they put Isabel and had her represent and fall in love with jimmy. IM BALLING MY EYES OUT.
The scene where the 'white' family went to meet the Mexican one is very good. They went there quite willing to make friends with the Mexicans. After all, their daughter was already with a Mexican. They did not judge the family because Carlitos had been in prison. They were happy to try the Mexican food. OK, they were horrified with the naked boy. But the only one who insulted and was hostile to the Mexican family was Memo himself.
@luis garcia Even though I agree about this whole conquest thing, the bible is utter bull invented by ignorant sheep herders from the middle east. Mexican is not a race, it's a nationality. There's white Mexicans, indigenous, mestizos (white/indegninous), Arab, and black Mexicans. I would love to know wheres the proof on the bible that Mexicans come from the lost tribe of Israel lol. You sound like the Hebrew Israelites haha
When Chucho fights with his dad and jimmy starts crying always chokes me up cause jimmy was me when my dad fought with my older brother due to his Gang activities love you Carnal
idk about everybody else but at 1:57:25 when he's looking at the family pictures and the music playing in the backround damm it just makes me think about what my family has been thru. family over everything
“The greatest riches a man can have is famila” that hit so hard. im separated from my kids and wife and hoping to reunite one day. the reason I’m watchin this movie. GOD BLESS YALL! keep fighting for what you love men!
I love this movie! Seen it a few times now over the years and always gets to me.. I'm not Mexican but all Hispanics can relate as it shows our family unity and love🙏Que viva la raza!!✌
Thank you so very much for posting this beautiful and treasure of a movie❤️🎥👍🏻. This is the first movie my husband and I saw at the theatre when it came out, May 1995.
Sending love to all my Mexican and Chicano brothers and sisters you are all one. Only geography and a few generations set you both apart. Being a Jamaican Cuban bourn in England I see the same differences between Jamaicans back home and here in the UK. We have failed miserably to work together. It's not late for you guys. If both Chicanos and Mexicans pulled together politically and economically and separated your differences my gosh the United States government would not know what to do.
You are so right. I have thought of that too. But not only Chicanos and Mexicans. I’d say Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Salvadorians and all minorities as well. But that’s exactly what Government doesn’t wants us to do. Thus, they always try to keep us separated.
Yes always be proud of who you are and where you come from! The Latino culture is as beautiful as you are 😁🇲🇽 can’t wait to teach that to my princess 👸
This movie will forever bring up happy and sad tears! As a chicana, sooo many parts of this movie remind me of he generations of my own family members. This movie will always and forever have a special place in my heart!
Thank you!! Bring these type of movies back! lol The only other movie that comes to mind that is similar in nature that was made after the year 2000 is "Crash". IMO.
WHO GIVES A DAM WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ADMIRE. ADMIRE US WHEN THEY ATTACK US FOR TRYING TO MAKE A BETTER PEACEFUL LIFE FOR OUR FAMILIES. ALSO GIVE MY BROTHERS BACK THEIR LANDS.
Same thing happened to my grandpas dad in 1931 they sent him all the way to central Mexico even tho he was born in Tejas!! California,Texas,Arizona,Colorado and New Mexico will always still be Mexico.
fuck you and mexico. this is all indian land! keep claiming this country is yours when the white man is the race you fucks have always worshipped both in mexico and in the u.s.!! no wonder us american indians can't stand your johnny-come-lately, "aztlan" asses!!
Dam that shit happened to my great grandma. Her family had been from San Antonio, Texas since it was Mexico. During the Great Depression they deported her family, just after her father had died. But if that would’ve not happened I think I would’ve not been here living. So things happen for a reason. Sometimes those things hurt but you know.
Ed Salce you do know the Indians didn’t technically own anything or everything Mexico was always the Aztec and Mayan territory where as the Indians and there different tribes had different territory in different areas
I remember my stepdad watching this. He raised me since I was baby before divorce my mom. Anyways I remember him trying to tell me life lessons and how important la familia is while we watch this. I was fortunate to meet his familia in Mexico I learned a lot from him
Crazy I remember as a kid playing under the bridge where Chucho got shot..Ahh Beautiful East L.A. Chuchos ole lady reminds me of my aunt MARTHA she used to carry a switch blade in her beehive hair do back in the 50's Told me a lot of good story's around the 🔥 having some 🍺🍺 playing some oldies 🎶 📻 ❤ MI FAMILIA GONZALES from TEXAS
I’ve watched this movie many times and it still gets to me. I love the small details such as Irene’s love for her father. You can tell she’s a daddy’s girl. Jimmy washing his car just as Chucho did and him learning to dance with Isabelle was also nice to see that he was slowly opening up to her.
I listen to this every night. It soothes my soul. I think of all my familia with the soundtrack. It is beautiful. Sometimes I cry because I miss all my passed ancestors. But it all is in love. And if course Edward Olmos has a beautiful zen voice. Love this movie.❤
I agree. The women singing that song is so very beautiful and soothing. Something about it touches my heart and, like you, it makes me think of family members of the past
One of my favorite movies. Excellent cast. Jimmy Smits always made me cry watching this movie. I love the Mexican people. May God bless them always. 🌹💙🕊🌺🤲🏻
I love this movie. As a Dominican, I love movies that represent us Latinos and Hispanics. And I love my Mexican friends. In my webseries episode about Latino game characters, I praised the Chicanos who fought for equality in this country.
Thanks for saying that. I don't think other Hispanics and even Mexican nationals realize how much Mexican Americans had to endure in the U.S. from lynches, segregation, discrimination, robbing of the land, etc. The Mexican Americans paid the price for other Hispanics!!!
What an amazing film. I've seen it a million times and i'm just so fascinated by the complexities of our culture. this film captures so many emotions, the family dynamic, and the spirit of life and death. We need more movies like this that are not cheesy, but grounded in reality.
My grandparents are among some of the founders of L.A. I remember my grandma told me that there weren’t even giving them birth certificates back then the only proof she had for her and her children was a piece of paper of the baptism day and name from the church and the government had to make it valid
My great grandma would tell us stories but about when New Mexico was still Mexico. We have a beautiful history, but unfortunately it's not as "important" to others as it is to us.
The part at the end where the dad looking at the pictures and chuchos picture draws his attention then goes outside and sees an angel in the clouds yup that got me choked up tears in the eyes. I miss my grandma.😭
The scene where Jimmy and Isabel are dancing salsa(sorry Merengue)on the middle of the street @ 1:23:00-1:26:36 is my old block (barrio), that big ol tree behind them used to be on my front yard. it's on the "T" intersection of Ganahl St and Sentinel Avenue. Los Angeles CA 90063
It was merengue not salsa. Juan Luis Guerra the artist does mostly merengue and bachata. But its cool to see your neighborhood in a movie isnt it? A Bronx Tale was filmed in mine.
Holy shit this feels like watching my own familys story. We're from east LA, I'm first generation American and my mom's family is from a small town in Michöacán too.

100 times thats cap bruh
Our family is quite different but when someone needs something we are there for one another. We have a strong bond alot like the Latino families 👪 ❤
Why did Jason die
@@rosalioramos87 Jason?
that's fucked me up. Blessings
Chicano is literally short for "Mechicanos" so we should all be proud
Being Chicano doesn't separate you from from any other Mexican. Everyone should stop saying "real mexican". That's what cause separation among La Raza!
They went to war during WWII and won the most awards during the war! Every single person that served during WWII are heroes but we fucking went to work. Look up all the awards Mexican Americans had during the war it will bring a smile to your face so proud of those men for doing all that they did.
u your parent r from mejico N u borned here your kids gonna b the chicanos not u them!

As an black American i love Chicano and Latino film it’s like they put the dedication
+Marlenne Chantelle Resendiz exactly "respect" ur doing proudly :)
+pizza oiecy I got respect no doubt but thank god I ain't a "real Mexican" they would give up everything to be a Chicano.
THE BLACK SHEEP
I just saw you in a emperor lemon comment section as well, funny coincidence.

Jimmy and Isabel dancing made me realize how truly alone i feel. I wish i could share that happiness of life with someone.

that would have been nice but then it wouldn't have been able to tell the principal of stopping the cycle and that's what Jimmy had to do

One of my favorites. To my fellow Chicanos let's face our traumas to heal our selves so we can stop the family "curses," and cycles to become strong people who also happen to be Chicanos😏😏
Yessss
As a man who has no family this movie is beautiful watching from New Zealand
The best part is when jimmy and Isabella are in bed talking about their sad lives and finding out they both saw their relatives die in front of them ... sad as hell but made them fall in love with each other so much harder . That did it for me .....😭😭
They were healing each other. That's what made them fall for each other.
They didnt deserve the ending they got.. Completely heartbreaking💔😩😡
The ending makes me cry so much, it was so touching, and the acting was phenomenal, love being part Mexican and love my Chicano culture 😁 la Raza!!!!
Javier Hernandez a story that hits so close to a lot of our hearts Carnale
Maybe you should make part 2!
Braulio Barajas. 😂😂👍 true
omg i know my uncle had to have that stupid crease in his pants lmao and my grandma calling my grandpa viejo (more like yelling at him) all my uncles listening to the oldies and the racism my dad endured so many real things in this movie for me too
Chucho in this scene actually said something true.
💯👏🏻
Chucho was a pendejo those type of guys dont last
End up in Jail Or Dead
Like Frank Told Tony Montana
“the guys who want it all, chicas, champagne, flash, they don't last”
@@Mayito_Tamps Yes I gree, he should have laid low and at least help his papa with the lawn business and kept his illegal business on the very low so no one would know. I'm not really praising his ways, but just pointing out the sick way society here in America worship money and don't even ask how people are making it. But yeah you're right, lol he was a pendejo. The gang life brings nothing good. He could have sold the stuff on the low without getting involved in the gang life.
Yeah until you can’t buy shit because all your money is dirty
Shit, maybe if you own the trailer and business, but I see so many of these guys where I live that I don't think they are making that much. Maybe more like 200.

I will never forget Director Gregory Nava introducing himself to the group of young girls auditioning and just thanking us for coming all the way out for the event and to just have fun that day
This movie also had Sons of Anarchy, Mayans MC, and The Shield representation

The scene where the 'white' family went to meet the Mexican one is very good. They went there quite willing to make friends with the Mexicans. After all, their daughter was already with a Mexican. They did not judge the family because Carlitos had been in prison. They were happy to try the Mexican food. OK, they were horrified with the naked boy. But the only one who insulted and was hostile to the Mexican family was Memo himself.

Beehive is from the 60s
hey baby
2019 and full on tears fell down my cheeks during Jimmy and Carlitos hug. 😭 Such a great movie with great acting. Don’t get tired of rewatching.
Sameeee
The scene where Isabel starts danxing with Jimmy gets me every fucking time. She really made him feel genuine joy in a way he forgot was possible ❤
What an amazing film. I've seen it a million times and i'm just so fascinated by the complexities of our culture. this film captures so many emotions, the family dynamic, and the spirit of life and death. We need more movies like this that are not cheesy, but grounded in reality.
Yo soy Turco, y tengo puro amor y respeto por Mexicanos. Gentes chingones. Orale.
2024 and I’m so happy i found this movie again. Thanks for posting it 🙏🏼❤️
My grandparents are among some of the founders of L.A.
Watched this movie at the theatre when it first came out and still love it and cry about it . Classic in my era
Same here

this is the first time i watch this movie- made me cry and think about my family. my siblings, or ups and down. wow.
The part at the end where the dad looking at the pictures and chuchos picture draws his attention then goes outside and sees an angel in the clouds yup that got me choked up tears in the eyes. I miss my grandma.😭
Sarai Cortez me too touched me even she'd a tear and I suppose to be a man's man.
Sarai Cortez Sending hugs Sarai! Love this movie!

Sarai Cortez
I do understand Amiga, I miss my grandparents too 😢😢
The scene where Jimmy and Isabel are dancing salsa(sorry Merengue)on the middle of the street @ 1:23:00-1:26:36 is my old block (barrio), that big ol tree behind them used to be on my front yard. it's on the "T" intersection of Ganahl St and Sentinel Avenue. Los Angeles CA 90063
do u still live in LA?
Holy fuck man
It was merengue not salsa. Juan Luis Guerra the artist does mostly merengue and bachata. But its cool to see your neighborhood in a movie isnt it? A Bronx Tale was filmed in mine.
@Priscilla Zavala Yes I still do.
that's sick
Crazy cause half of this cast is Puerto Rican playing Chicano I love it much respect to the Mexican people God bless you guys
They did a great job capturing the accents!
Chicanos & Mexicans much love to you!!Viva La raza.Muncho corazon pa mi Gente Viva Mexico.God Bless Every single humanbeing in this world!!!!
I'm a navajo, I grew up watching this movie since I was little family use to watch this
Holy shit this feels like watching my own familys story. We're from east LA, I'm first generation American and my mom's family is from a small town in Michöacán too.
This movie was so touching. Family dynamics can really be a challenge. The second half had me crying and laughing. Great movie with great acting.
